Beth smiled, leaning back in her chair. This could work, if she could make a few calls.1
"It's a bit complicated," she admitted, running a hand through her hair. "I do transform at the full moon, and that is involuntary. But I can change any time I want. I have asked the elders why the full moon makes us change, but they don't know. I hope to find out someday."2
She leaned forward, looking at Kitra intently. "I don't have to feed as your kind does. We hunt in packs as a ritual thing. Sort of a family reunion, you might say. But we eat human food most of the time. I should give you our recipe for roast...we've had several generations to perfect it.3
"I wouldn't want you to feel uncomfortable here. You had no idea that we were here. There must be a way to make this work for both parties." Kitra continued to stare back. Beth went on. "My family has never had a need to strengthen their territory before. We're the only monsters around. So this is something new. I will probably give my dad a call, so he can talk to the uncles."4
Kitra bristled a bit at the last sentence. Beth lowered her face to hide a smile. She was sure a pack of fifty werewolves was something that the vampire hadn't counted upon. "We do our best to keep the humans around us safe," Beth continued. "I don't know what the elders will think. But if what you say is true, and you can feed without killing, then we might have a deal.5
"Of course, my family is willing to make exceptions." Beth smiled again, this time allowing her eyes to glow gold. "We've had to dispose of a few gang leaders, a few dirty cops. As far as that goes, you'd have our blessing to have as many as you liked."
