I Got Your Back

On a brisky cold January day, my best friend, Ashley, got dumped by her boyfriend. I was shocked when I was in the psychologist office with Ashley that morning. Ashley & Rodney had been together for about 2 1/2 years. When they got together, Rodney was a junior while Ashley & I were freshmen.1

When Ashley & I got into high school, Ashley had a crush on Rodney, but was too scared to tell him. She wrote a note to tell him how she was feeling about him, but she was also too scared to give him the note. I took the note, & gave it to him. When he read it, he told Ashley that he'll be her boyfriend. Ashley was so happy. They had a wonderful relationship. Even though I don't have a boyfriend, I understood how Ashley was feeling. Even though there were times where I was jealous, Ashley always tells me that Rodney won't come in between our friendship & will always be my best friend (no matter what). Ashley loved Rodney, & Rodney loved Ashley. Everything went great between them until that January morning.2

Ashley recieved a note from Rodney's younger brother, Mitch, that was from Rodney. I was selling pasteries that morning for NHS, so I didn't know what Rodney wrote to Ashley. While I watched Ashley's bookbag, Ashley was putting her coat away & that's where she read Rodney's note. When she came back from her locker, she took her bookbag, & told me,"I have to go to homeroom to think about something." I knew something was wrong, but I didn't know what. When she came to school, she had a huge smile on her face & gave me a cup of hot-cocco from a small donut shop down the street. I was worried about Ashley.3

All morning, I was back-&-forth from the guidance office hoping that I would be there for Ashley when she talks to the psychologist. You see, during the past four years, I had some issues. I needed to have a friend to help me, & Ashley was that friend. Now, it's my turn to help Ashley.4

During my Algebra II class, I got called down to the guidance office at the end of the period. Since I was done with the test & the class period was almost over, my Algebra II teacher told me that I can leave. When I got to the guidance office, I stepped into the psychologist's office. She thought that something was wrong with me, but I told her,"It's not me, it's my friend Ashley. She wanted to talk to you about something. I don't know what, but I know something's wrong. We were going to talk to you about it, but you looked busy." It was a crazy day for the psychologislt. "Ashley wrote a note to me that she wanted to tlak to me, but I was busy with someone else,"she said. She went to the main office to have Ashley come to the guidance office. Before Ashley came, we talked about stuff. A knock came on the door, & it was Ashley.5

When Ashley came in, she looked ok but not happy. Then Ashley said it all. "I got a note from my boyfriend He dumped me, & I cried this morning. I have no idea why he accused my co-workers & friends." You see, the note that Ashley showed the psychologist & me said that Rodney was sick of Ashley telling fer friends & co-workers that they were breaking up. I don't remember Ashley telling me that they were breaking up. She talks about him Rodney alot, but I never heard that she's dumping him. "I want to have a good afternoon, so I want to get this off my chest,"Ashley said,"I want to solve this on my own." The psychologist was pleased that Ashley's handling this problem very maturely. I knew that Ashley was a strong person, & shows little emotion.6

Before we left the office, Ashley threw the note away. She didn't want to look at it anymore because it makes her sick whenever she looks at it. I walked Ashley to her next class (I had study hall while Ashley had child-development). Before Ashley went in her class, I gave her a big bear hug & told her,"Everything's going to be alright. If you want to talk, call me." Then Ashley went to her class while I went to mine.7

Later that night, Ashley called me. We talked about some small things. Then she told me,"Rodney's giving me a second chance. I called him earlier & we talked." I was happy to see Ashley happy. Ashley & Rodney were working things out to make their relationship better, but 2 weeks after this, Rodney dumped Ashley (again) for another stupid reason & now they're through (for good). Maybe Rodney wasn't the one for Ashley. She'll find him someday. As of right now, she's very happy to have a best friend like me.8
