the bitterness of dissonant chords1
she used to play on a broken down keyboard,2
reminded her of times like this.3
sometimes she'd cry herself to sleep,4
burying her ears in her pillow5
until the shouts of her parents6
became muffled, nearly unrecognizable.7
she took upon herself8
responsibility for their happiness,9
for every 10
shout, 11
curse, 12

she fell deeper into shame-14
broken hearted15
she lives invisible16
in a household filled only17
with conflict18
and the silence that follows 19
twelve years later20
this little girl, now full grown21
hiding in city that never sleeps22
sometimes still wakes up crying23
and buries her head in her pillow24
a relic from the past25
proof that pain never quite dies.26

Author notes
This is a collaboration with More Like War, we used option number one-we chose this option because we know each other well, and have been friends since second grade-and thought it'd be great to collaborate for this contest. Thank you so much for this opportunity-and the best of luck to you in judging!

Things swell up and never leave
Thumbs Up!!!! Hope you win the contest! This is a very good poem. I really like it. Pain is something that will never leave you, it may seem like it is all gone, but it is still inside of you, waiting to find someway to get out. It doesn’t have to bother you, but no matter how hard you try, it will always be there. Great poem and I hope you win. -
Judgement
Interesting. I believe this is free-verse, no? Anyway, I'm rather flattered that you seem so adament about me setting up this such contest.
Now then, the story-line here was most intriguing and it made me wonder if perhaps this was something more reflecting upon someone you know or something than just simply collaborating. *shrug* Anywho...
