Seeking a Refuge (36)

Stephanie and Chris were having a great time, alone in the girl’s living room and kissing passionately under the huge Christmas tree John had put there just a day before. Not a worry was felt, and their feelings towards each other almost warmed the whole house. John was working on a story in his room and Mary stayed on the kitchen, so the couple had all the time and space in the world. 1

“Hey,” Stephanie laughed out loud, “actually I thought you’d never let go of me again.”2

Chris’s face turned suspiciously red; their kiss had lasted for approximately 15 minutes.3

“Hmmm,” the girl kept teasing him in a friendly manner, “shouldn’t we get in the Guinness Book of Records or something like that?”4

“The records are higher.” The man’s face now looked like a tomato, so his girlfriend decided it was time to stop.5

“I’m kidding... I’m not going to send them pictures or anything,” she smiled, patting him on the shoulder.6

“Sorry, I need to go to the bathroom. Would you excuse me a minute?”7

Chris answered with a brief “yeah” and Stephanie left in a hurry. 8

She was so ecstatic that even mundane activities seemed too much to do. But she had to, and the girl just didn’t want to learn it the hard way. 9

But something which she hadn’t planned happened right before she would open the door to exit the bathroom. A mental call from...10

“Stephanie.” Steve’s thought was tender yet determined. “We... have a new mission, if I can say so.”11

“What is it?” the L&U K princess inquired out of instinct. 12

“Ares appears to have somehow gotten a Middian mother ship and he is now on the orbit of the Earth, ready to attack. We must transport ourselves there in order to sabotage his plan.”13

The idea in Stephanie’s mind was uninvited, yet tempting to think about... at least she considered it that way. Chris definitely wasn’t going to be much bothered by an only five minute delay, while she would “solve” the situation. Trying to ignore the shame she felt, she thought powerfully:14

“Ok, Steve. Give me the coordinates. We will stop him.”15
