Chapter One

Stares penetrated thirteen-year-old Scout as she walked through a busy town. All around her people looked at her eyes with curiosity. The rim was shadowed blue, but the inside was a deep purple. Clutched in her hand was a letter, blurred from the heat her hand produced. Scout stopped to sit down and to open the letter again.

 Scout-

You will understand why I'm going, and why I'm gone. I'm going to die, but I must not tell you how. I have so many answers- a blur in the page. I hope you forgive me, and remember me forever.

 -Ellen

Scout cried onto the paper until it was damp. Her only friend, Ellen, was dead. She had seen her body, her light brown hair neatly braided and her pretty green eyes closed as though she was resting. So cold... so cold.......

Elsewhere in Norway was a meeting. A very important one to be exact. Ireland's president was standing on a large- very large table with a map of the world on it. He took a very large stick and pointed to the Arctic Sea.

"Thats where it was last seen," he declared. The Belgian president tucked her curly red hair behind her ears.

"I am sure very that in country mine it was seen last." Her poor English confused the crowd, but some people were nodding.

"I agree with President Shelly," said the Mexican leader. The Irish president narrowed his dark brown eyes.

"It's flying all over the world at a rate of one-thousand kilometers in one half hour. This creature has to be captured. It's causing the the temperature to drop and rise dramatically," he pointed out. President Shelly blinked and nodded.

"I remember my vice president saw it one night. It has great white feathers tipped with many colors and green eyes and really big it is," said President Shelly in better English. "My country will start sending out planes immediately to catch creature."

Scout, meanwhile in England got up and tucked the letter in her pocket. Her heavy winter jacket felt like one million coats as the temperature rose to about 89 degrees. She threw the jacket on the street and started back into her home. Before she reached her house though, she decided to go in through the window. She switched into a cat. That is the animal she could change into. Using her claws, she clawed her way up to the window and slunk in. Changing back to human, she put the letter from Ellen in her desk draw and turned on the television.

"The temperature was reported -3 degrees this morning but has risen to 89 degrees. This weather was rumored to be discussed at the Presidential Meeting this afternoon. The rest is to keep secret though." A red-haired man with curly hair was speaking fast. "Anyway, there was a robbery at Fle De Al May-" Scout turned off her TV and knew it was almost time for dinner. She hurried downstairs into the kitchen. The smell of pasta sent water into her mouth, despite her horrible days.

"Hi Mum. Hi Dad." Scout settled at the table and dug her fork into a curly pasta. Her parents nodded in greetings. Scout sat at her table, eating, not knowing what was in stake for her.

Author notes

If it sounds a little like the Switchers series, sorry. I tried to change it up a little bit though.
