I was a stormy night and Kayla was sitting on the bench waiting for what almost seemed like forever for that stupid bus. Cold and barely covered, Kayla decided to wait inside the nearest shop. It happened to be a coffee shop so she ordered a double latte. It was a nice warm and cozy little place. It was called "The Coffee Couch." It was an interesting name she thought to herself. It was almost perfect. She could see out the window to see if the bus had come for her yet. Now entered a shagging looking teenager about her age. He took a seat next to her looking almost as cold, if not colder, than she was. He put hand slightly up to waver a hello. She just managed to give a smile.1
"So... what's your name?" he asked trying to start a conversation.2
"Kayla Prince. And yours?"3
"Jason Wyatt. What school do you go to Kacey?"4
"It's Kayla, and up there on Brown and Lyndsay. Base View High School? Do you go there too?"5
"Actually yeah, I do. I'm a junior. I don't recognize you."6
"Well that's because I just moved here from St. Petersburg, Florida. Going from there to here in Arizona, it's a big change for me. 'Oh, and I am a junior as well."7
"Oh...well, it's awfully late in the year dont'cha think?"8
"Well yeah sure, but my dad travels on business call. I'm sorry, I've got to go. The bus is here. It's my ride."9
"I've gotta get on the same bus too. Let's go before we miss it."10
So they ran up to the bus, put the money in the collector, and grabbed a nice warm seat. It wasn't terribly crowded, but crowded enough to make anyone uncomfortable. This was because, in the back of the bus, the air conditioner was leaking water or some kind of fluid. No one wished to sit back there. They wanted to escape from the wetness, not go back in it. It was quiet for a few minutes, then Jason suggested they exchanged phone numbers.11
"No offense Jason, but I don't know you well enough. Sorry."she said looking at him like he was a freakish stalker.12
"'Oh well... I understand... we could meet at lunch. How about by the sophomore lockers."13
"I go out to lunch."14
"As do I. So we meet there, and hop into my car since I suggested it."15
Kayla put on a smug look. She wasn't interested at all. She might as well humor him. But she still wasn't sure.16
"Heh, I'll even pat for you."he added trying to win her over. 17
She sighed, feeling defeated,"Oh all right."18
"Do you have something against me?"he asked feeling offended.19
"No well, yes, I don't usually go out with strange guys I just met."20
"Ouch, that hurt."21
"C'mon! You're a bit shaggy."22
"Nothing wrong with shaggy, is there?"23
"Heh, I said I'd go out to lunch with you!"24
They both laughed.25
Kayla pushed the stop button to get off, it was her stop. "Heh, see yah, this is my stop. Lunch, Monday, see yah!"she winked and waved a good-bye. He was starstruck by her immense beauty. he looked out the window to see her running to get out of the rain. Amazing he thought, she even looks beautiful running in the rain. But he was glad that his car broke down. If it hadn't, he'd never met such an angel. He realized it was his stop and got off, almost tripping in his little daydream. Reality snapped back to him and he ran for the apartments.26
Still cold and freezing, she wondered why he was on the bus if he had a car himself. She had to share her car, so the bus was her only option sometimes. Not all the way in reality she realized she almost smacked into a pole. "Woah! That was close."she said to herself. "You're telling me!"a voice said from behind her. Startled, she jumped. "Mom! What are you doing here?"she said shaken. "Honey, you're in front of the house. You have been for half an hour. I was worried."she said in a motherly like tone, "Are you okay?" She looked in her eyes and grasped her hands on her daughters forearms. "Sure I'm fine. Just thinking."she smiled reassuringly. Intense thinking was more like it. But her mom let it go and let her inside out of the rain.27
It was finally Monday, when Jason's wish would be fulfilled. He couldn't sleep the night before but now, this morning, he was full of energy. Then he remembered back about the shaggy comment. "No,"he thought,"today I will dress the way she'd like. Not shaggy."He shuffled through his clothes to fine nice baggy pants and a nice skater shirt. He then picked out some of his Etnies to wear. He put some styling gel in his hair and created spikes. He imagined this was the look she desired. To top it off, he sprayed some Ax on himself. He went to his car and cleaned it out, but not too much so she'd he didn't do it on purpose for her. Looking desperate was the last thing he wanted. 28
Kayla stretched and yawned out of bed. Looking at the clock, she noticed it 6:45 A.M. Perfect, she thought to herself. She dressed in her normal not too preppy, not too original look. It suited her, but she needed to find her clique, where she belonged. Walking to the counter, she found a note that read,"You can have the car today." She smiled happily. She then took a Nutrigrain bar and ate it while doing her hair. She decided today she'd put it in a pony and curl the end and bring two strands from each side of her head and curl them. She put some ribbon and sparkles in her hair to fancy it a little. She grabbed her stuff and snatched her keys and roared her little Mitsubishi to school.29
Jason anticipated for lunch to turn the corner. First hour passed, then second, then finally third. He walked as fast as he could to the sophomore lockers. The eyes of people who knew him continually scanned him. His new style was shocking. No one knew Jason Wyatt would give up the stoner look. Not one person dared saying a word to him about it. It was best not to. Perhaps they thought rage would seep onto his eyes. But no matter what would have happened, he was going on is way to a lunch date with an angel. Waiting impatiently was Kayla herself, looking more beautiful than ever.30
Kayla searched for Jason. Shaggy was the look she remembered. Almost bum-like. A cute skater guy waltzed right up to her. Her heart pounded. "Hi Kayla."31
