Eyrion's Adventrue Ch. 1

Eyrion slept in his home at the blacksmiths, his eyes closed tightly together. He dreamed wondrous dreams of his new life here at the city.  The blacksmiths home hadn’t really changed from eight years ago but it was still in need of a few repairs, the roof dripped on their heads when it rained, and the support beam was getting damaged from the water.  Other than that the shop was in the best shape. Eyrion laid on the ground asleep, while Ben was up drinking his morning’s ale.1

“Eyrion my son” a deep voice shook him.  He rolled around on the ground and then finally opened his eyes,2

“What?” he asked yawning.  3

“It’s time for school” Ben answered lifting Eyrion up by his shoulders.  4

“I remember eight years ago when you first came to this town.  You entered the inn and sat at the same table with me, that is the first time I had meet an elf” Ben smiled brushing Eyrion’s shoulders off.  5

“I remember you invited me to stay here for a little while, I never would have thought it would be for eight years.” Eyrion smiled a pleased smile.  6

He yawned and continued to where his pack sat on some boxes.  He threw in some books and put his short sword in his sheath under his right arm, it was latched to a belt around his waist.  He threw his pack around his shoulder and walked to the door.7

“I will see you at the end of the day?” Eyrion shivered still half asleep.8

“Here take this it should help you on this fine morning” Ben took a large pale full of water and tossed it onto Eyrion.9

“Good day” Eyrion laughed, then pushed open the wooden door to the out side.10

He entered out into the blazing sun and the warm air. The wind was gentle and the birds chirped in the trees.  Eyrion set off for the school house; it was just on the other side of the town far to the east.  He passed many kids that he went to school with, for he did not have any friends so they all ignored him as he passed.  They stared like he was a creature from the darks of hell. Even the other elves of the town stare at him weird.  He was the only one with a different color hair; every one else had brown, blonde, red, or black, he was the only with blue hair. He tried to fit in but no one really cared for him.  The bakers” kids just laughed, the tavern boy tried to fight him, but Eyrion just passed by acting as if he hadn’t noticed the child.  The only one that didn’t tease him was the merchant’s daughter, Linda.  She was a pretty girl; brown hair, blue eyes, skinny, and well garmented in the finest silk.  Although Eyrion never made friends with her, he still enjoyed seeing her in class every day.  He made his way into the school where there were three rooms, training; for battle, such as weapons and blocking, then there was basic language; the language that every one used to communicate, almost all the people in their land knew and understood basic language, and the final room was magic use; few people were able to take this course, because not many people had the magic life force in them. Eyrion traveled to the second room first and pushed open the red door, and entered in; it was full of wood tables and chairs, all kids young and old sat there reading, writing, speaking, and learning the basic language. There were four teachers one teaching each subject; reading, writing, speaking, and all the other skills needed.11

Eyrion made his way to a corner in the room where he sat alone perfecting the language and where he also studied a different language, he also studied the elvin language.  His parents when he was growing up never spoke the language; they wanted Eyrion to be just as the human children in the land.  He at the age of fourteen now had almost mastered the basic language, and was just starting to learn the elvin language.  He sat there for two hours reading books on both the languages until the eldest teacher in the room stood and rang the bell that let the kids know they were free to go to class number two.  The kids ran out of the room, books tucked under their arms and excited to be out, kids stood and laughed at Eyrion as he exited the room; they shouted names that they had created for him like blue child, Eyarie, and elvish candy. He didn’t take insult to their names finding them immature and funny at some times, he ignored and continued to his class number two.  Class number two was his favorite, training; he was the only that could fire a bow with the same perfection that their master had, and he was also one of the best at the sword. The door to this room was black, he slide it slowly until it opened enough for every one to fit in.  As he entered an arrow went flying past his head just missing him and hit the baker in the butt, who was bent over picking up a basket.  He yelped and ran back into his shop cussing at the air. He pulled the arrow that was wedged into his butt and snapped it in half.  Eyrion continued into the room with a large smirk on his face.12

“You’re aim seems to be a little off” Eyrion joked as he took his boots off.13

“Ha-ha I wish” the master answered laughing with Eyrion. The rest of the class joined into the laughter as they entered the room.14

“Ok, people, kids, pick a partner that is equal in skill in one field.” The master announced and then walked over to a shelf full of wooden swords hanging on the wall.15

The kids hustled about trying to get their friends and walked to where the master was standing.  Eyrion stood alone behind all the kid’s.16

“Today we will learn how to block” Held a sword high in the air.17

“We do that everyday” a boy much larger than Eyrion complained.18

“And we will continue to do so until you have learned how to do it correctly. Now grab sword and find a place for you and your partner to stand.” The master moved out of the kid’s way and they rushed to the shelf grabbing a sword. Then proceeded to find a place where they could practice.  19

“Eyrion come” He pointed to Eyrion who stood in front of the shelf with a wood sword.20

“Yes” he bowed and then moved in front of the master. He held his sword out firmly in front of him. The master swung at him and he gently threw the attack back at his master.  The master attacked once again this time cutting up between the legs; Eyrion stepped on the sword and slapped his master in the face with his sword. The room went silent and every one turned to watch the two of them. 21

“You’re good” the master smirked.22

“Yes Master Marin, I practice two hours a day” Eyrion laughed moving back a few feet.23

“Two hours that’s it?” Marin lifted his sword back up in shock.24

The two fighters circled each other around inside the crowd formed around them. They paced for a few minutes and then finally stopped and just stared. It was a blank stair not a vengeful or angry stair, but a blank as if they didn’t know what they were doing. Eyrion breathed heavy and placed his sword on his shoulder. Marin went in for another attack hoping to catch Eyrion in the hip, but Eyrion twisted around the attack knocked his master on the ground and placed the wooden tip on his forehead.25

“You have beaten me in one of the four challenges” Marin panted getting back up. They both stood shoulder to shoulder panting.26

“What’s next?” Eyrion asked excited.27

“My favorite of all the challenges, archery” Marin walked over to the targets and grabbed a long oak bow, and a quiver with fifteen arrows held inside.  Eyrion followed him grabbing a yew bow, and a quiver with five arrows held inside.28

“First one to make three bulls-eyes wins” Marin readied his bow. “And you only have five arrows” he laughed stringing one of his. Now they walked out side with the class following him, they walked to an open filed with a small crown to it. The targets were a hundred yards and standard size, only a true marksman could hit these targets with such precision. He fired his first arrow hitting just out side the red mark.29

“Nice shot, but not good enough to beat this” Eyrion strung his bow and aimed at the same target; he released the arrow quickly and turned.  The arrow curved to the right and came back and hit the center of the target.  The whole crowd gasped because to everyone knowledge what Eyrion had just done was impossible. “As I was saying not well enough” He smiled and stepped away from the square where they shot from.   His master stepped into the place and readied another bow this time firing at Eyrion’s target.  The arrow just got inside the red and the score now was tied one to one.  A gentler breeze picked up and sent a little shiver down the classes back.  The grass waved like snakes crawling on the ground.30

With the wind flying from the Eyrion’s right he had a tough shot to be making.  He took a deep breath drew one of his arrows from his quiver, placed it onto the string and pulled it back.  His eye fixed on his last arrow, he let go of the arrow and this time it flew straight and quick splitting his last arrow into two pieces.  His two arrows now wedged to each other on the same spot in the red.  “That is a good shot right there” some one form the crowed shouted amazed.  They were all speechless at what he had just done, some stood jaws wide open and all.  “Nothing to lament over my fellow” He patted his master on the back.31

“I’m being beaten by a 12 year old?” The master sadly giggled.32

“14” Eyrion smirked33

“What?” His master answered34

“I’m 14, not 12. I take that as an insult” Eyrion laughed. He walked away and stood using his bow as a cane.35

“I will not lose to you” His master took a breath and silently let the arrow release from his fingers.  Raising one eyebrow he watched it hit the red, now tying up the score.36

“You better get used to losing” Eyrion drew another arrow from his quiver.37

“Halt” His master walked to his side.38

“Now we must stand back to back, and the target will be moving. A little challenge, no?”  He smirked also drawing an arrow.39

Eyrion and his master stood back to back watching the target roll back and forth.  “Ready? Go” His master ordered quickly. They both fired quickly at the target, Eyrion now only having two arrows left had to make smart decisions.  His master fired one after another just missing the target by centimeters. He now down to five was taking his time, Eyrion fired one of his last and it skimmed the edge of the red and stuck just in the out side of center.40

“One left” Eyrion smiled worried.41

They both drew an arrow synchronized and fired at the same time also. The arrows were flying at the same pace to the target.  Marins” arrow just at the last seconds of the race caught a little speed and hit the target before Eyrion’s.  “All good things come to an end” Marin laughed and then walked away.42

“Where are you going? It’s to my understanding that we have two more competitions left” Eyrion smiled angered about his loss.43

The wind now picked up and whipped fast and hard at the students, they all rushed back into the school waiting their master’s return.  Marin entered followed by Eyrion, as rain started to fall on the buildings, the rain sounded like stones crashing onto the roofs.  The sun faded behind the clouds and now only darkness covered the land.  The kids sat and watched the rain fall out the windows as their master Marin made his way to the center of the room.  They sat silently as he dressed for his next challenges against Eyrion. Eyrion walked to the west side of the room, which was full of al sorts of armor much of it made by him self and Ben.  His master put on light iron chain mail and plate legs, and gauntlets.  He picked up a curved sword that was sitting with his armor and stood in one spot for a few seconds.  Eyrion now picked up bronze full body chain mail and bronze legs.  He walked to the very end of the wall where there were a few weapons mostly bronze.  Behind all of the armor was an iron long sword, one that Eyrion had made him self.  He lifted it up and placed it in his hilt, then walked over to the center of the room.44

“You wear leather and bronze armor?”  Marin laughed insulted.45

“Yes, you won’t hit me enough to need anything else” Eyrion smirked cockily.46

“What is this, the third challenge?”  Marin asked.  “Well we will be having lots of fun” Marin smiled.47

“Let’s continue this” Eyrion grabbed his sword.48

“Yes, let’s continue” Marin puffed. They continued the sword fight the shortest of all the events.  The first man to lose his sword lost and the last man standing wins, Eyrion was a good swords man for his age no one could fight that.  “You will lose you know this right?”  Marin griped his sword tight. 49

Eyrion smirked and gazed into his master’s eyes, “I thought you were a dwarf?”  Eyrion asked.  “I’m the tallest that any one ahs ever seen. 50

“Why?”  Marin answered confused.  51

“Just wondering” Eyrion answered raising an eyebrow.52

“You know something don’t you?” Marin questioned with a deep tone.53

“I have seen this day; I win the next two matches” Eyrion smiled.  He peered deep into his masters eyes.54

“What are you a time reader?”  Marin laughed.55

“I don’t know but this all seems so familiar” Eyrion grabbed his head.  Eyrion fell to his knees.56

“All right class is over” Marin rushed to Eyrion. All the kid’s ran out of the room cheering and shouting into the rain.  Linda stood pressed against the door, she watched Eyrion and Marin.  “What is wrong?” Marin questioned Eyrion rubbing his back.57

“It hurts” Eyrion shouted his eye’s turned a blue and then faded back to normal.58

“What does?” Marin stood up and backed away.59

Eyrion shouted, screamed and than fell over unconscious.  Marin ran to his desk to grab a flask of some unknown substance. Marin pushed threw and pushed papers out of his way, finally finding the small flask lying under a letter.  “Just hold on Eyrion” Marin shouted as he ran out the door.  Eyrion continued to suffer on the ground, as tears rolled down Linda’s face.  He squirmed and tossed on the floor shouting, until Marin returned with the alchemist.60

“Hurry drinks this” The alchemist lifted Eyrion’s head up. Eyrion quickly drank out of a small flask the wizard held to his lips.61

Back at the blacksmiths home Ben pounded on an anvil, molding a sword.  He did it with grace like a dancer who has been dancing forever. Every strike rang in his ears like the sweet sound of a church bell. Each new strike brought to life a different part of the sword.  Ben believed that everything had a heart, even a sword, just as well as he did.  He placed the sword in water to cool it down so he could sharpen the edges.62

“Ben!” A voice shouted from the door.  Ben hustled to the door and quickly swung open the giant wooden doors.63

“Yes” He answered wiping the sweat from his eyes.64

“Do you have those nails I asked for?” The voice asked.65

“Oh John” Ben smiled removing his hand from in front of his eyes. “Yes I just got done making them, they might be a little warm” He grabbed a box next to him standing on a barrel. John was a tall red head guy, very scrawny for his height and age, he wore peasant clothes a simple shirt and pant.  Many people thought of him as dirty, because he was always working, therefore he always had dirt on him.  He was a carpenter for the town, repaired every thing that broke.  Ben handed the box to John and smiled.  “High quality nails” He laughed.66

“Don’t you ever get lonely here?” John asked looking into the dark house.67

“It’s quite” Ben answered taking a deep breath.68

“I got an idea, come to my house tomorrow. We will go to the bar and get you an lass” John smiled.69

“No I’m content” Ben smiled sheepishly.70

“No, come on boy oh” John patted Ben on the shoulder and then turned and walked away.71

“Only if she’s blonde” Ben shouted laughing.72

“Wahoo” John shouted back raising on arm into the air.73

Ben walked back in leaving the door open, he picked the sword back out of the water and took it to the sharpening stone wheel. He spun the wheel by it’s peddle on the ground, he sharpened it with grace. Two little boys ran into the shop and hide behind some crates pilled upon each other. He could hear a muffled voice out side counting, “1…2…3...4” The counting continued onto ten. “Here I come” the little voice shouted, a small girl came running into the shop un-covering barrels with blankets atop them, and opening cabinet doors. She calmly walked over out of breath to Ben, “Mr., do you know where my friends are?” She asked quietly.  Her bright blue eyes shined in the light of the fire. Ben started to open his mouth to answerer the young girl, when two giggles came from the crates that the little boys where hiding in.  “I think I have found them” She smiled.  She laughed and than ran to the crates.  The two little boys ran around her trying to escape from being tagged.  They knocked over buckets of water and tools, Ben laughed as he watched the girl catch one of the small boys.  He continued to sharpen the sword stopping every now and than as the young ones ran by him.74

“Ben” A sharp female voice came from outside.  “Ben you must come quickly” The voice came closer and closer, the merchants daughter stumbled as she tried catching her breath as she came running into Ben’s shop.75

Eyrion moaned as the medicine started to take affect.  He slowly began to sit up holding his head.  “I feel like I was just hit with a hundred pound hammer” Eyrion rubbed the back of his head now sitting upright. He continued to sit for a few seconds and than tried standing up. He stumbled his first few steps and than regained his balance.76

“Are you ok, boy?” The alchemist questioned.77

“I should be fine” Eyrion smiled in pain.78

“Thank you sir” Marin patted the merchants back as they helped Eyrion stand up.  “What could have caused this?” Marin whispered.79

“Well he seems to have something about him that is special. It seems to me he can see into the future. All magicians that can see the future go through this look here the tips of his hair turned gold.” The alchemist smiled as he took a step back from Eyrion.  The clouds now gave way and it became sunny once again.  “Eyrion is just going through changes in his body so he can adjust to his powers” The alchemist smiled.80

“What should we do than?”  Eyrion shook his head as he walked to the two men.81

“Just take this medicine every time you feel a pain” The alchemist handed Eyrion a small purple potion.  “The pain should leave in a few days. Than my friend you will be seeing many things others can not” The alchemist smiled and walked to the entrance.  He swung the door open and a bird flew in chirping.82

“Thank you” Marin shouted as the Alchemist left.83

“Well this is interesting” Eyrion smiled as he walked to the door.  He saw Ben and Linda coming in the distance walking very fast.  The other children played that were let out of school early.  The wind blew sand into the air and wisped it away, birds sang louder than Eyrion had ever heard them sing.  Every thing seemed to be clearer now that his head stopped hurting.  He could hear better and see farther than he had ever done before.84

“What is?” Marin asked.85

“Never mind… Hey dad.” Eyrion shouted and waved, as Ben came around the corner.  “Is that Linda?” Eyrion asked uneasy.86

“Yes?” Marin waved also.87

“What should I say?” Eyrion turned to Marin shaking him.88

“Calm down boy” Marin slapped Eyrion’s hands. Marin got close to Eyrions ear and whispered words of inspiration. Ben came quickly to his boy’s aid.89

“You ok son?” Ben asked checking Eyrions head for a sign of sickness.90

“I’m fine pop” He shrugged.91

“I was told you were hurt” Ben smiled with relief.92

“He had a heat stroke.  The alchemist gave him some potion and sent him on his way. He said that it all should be back to normal in a few hours.  But now you must leave it is getting late and the sun sets on this day.” Marin shook Ben’s hand.93

“What are you doing here?” Eyrion smiled as he pulled away towards Linda.94

“I just went to get Ben that’s it” She answered quickly.  They wandered off down the street; Eyrions long hair blew in the wind winding with Linda’s who’s also blown.  “Why are you so quite?” Linda asked Eyrion as he gazed to the ground.95

“I have no reason to speak.” Eyrion smiled.96

“I mean when the towns kids tease you” She corrected her self.97

“They will figure it out some day when I’m off on an adventure making money and seeing beautiful sites that only people dream of, and they sit in their homes dreaming of getting a job.  Then I will be the one laughing.” Eyrion smiled deeply.98

“Is Ben your real dad? I mean not to be rued but you seem, well different” Linda changed the subject scared of his answer. 99

“No, its fine, Ben found me in the pub I think.  My parents were burned alive, all I have is a bracelet left of my father.  This was years back, almost ten, at the end of the Kermonic War.” Lind could see tears in Eyrions eyes as he spoke deeply of his family, telling her every detail, small and big.  He told her of his family’s past, and what they use dot do.  “I only have the horse left from our house; the bracelet and the horse are my only memories.” He smiled a tear running down his face.100

“This seems hard for you to tell” She rubbed his back.101

“No, my mother always told me that even when they are gone, I can still see them; in all memories, bad or good. She was wonderful; she had blonde hair and just a wonderful person. My father was a dark elf, hence my blue hair, and my battle skills. It is said that all elves are born with great abilities.” Eyrion continued changing the subject.102

“You’re mother sounds wonderful.  I should some day wish to meet the good elves, not the dark ones. They are always in my fathers tails, he told me before I went to bed. How they were great people, they love nature.  Tall blonde and brown haired people, cloths so pure that you would think they were dreamlike.” She looked high into the sky. They sun was now setting in the west was turning the sky wondrous reds and pinks. If you had seen it you would think that it was a dream to real.103

“I wish to meet elves one day also” Eyrion smiled.104

“But you, you’re self are an elf” She smiled with great pleasure.  “You get immortality, only able to die in battle. Live where no others can live.” She obsessed.105

“I have no idea of elves, even though I’ am one.  I only know of our immortality.” Eyrion calmed her. They turned down a path that on looked by a hill. “This is beautiful” Eyrion smiled.106

“I’ll race you” Linda ran ahead.107

“To where?” Eyrion shouted after her.108

“The hill” She continued.  Eyrion agreed and started to sprint easily catching up to her. “What? I had a great lead on you. How did you catch up?” She asked astonished.109

“I’ am an elf” He smiled.110

Ben was back at his workshop cleaning him self off after along days work. He scrubbed his face and body of any sign of dirt, and continued on finding his best clothes.  Slicked back his hair and made his way to John’s home; which was on the other side of the town.  He passed glowing houses that looked as though they were on fire form the lights shimmering inside. Large and small, he could hear kids inside playing and he thought to him self where Eyrion could be.  He didn’t bother with worrying because he knew that Linda would take care of Eyrion. John’s house was finally in sight of Ben, he walked to the door slicked his hair back once more and knocked.  “John you home” Ben shouted knocking.111

“Just one minute lad” He heard John shout from inside. John walked out dressed in his best also with a woman wrapped around his arm. “This is Selvina” John introduced the two.112

“Nice to meet you” Ben kissed the ladies hand. 113

“And you” She blushed.114

“All right let’s get going” John smiled leading the two of them out of his home. They headed down the road towards the bar.  Entering the bar John went left to the bar and Ben went right to the bathrooms.115

“We need to find this man a lass” John nudged his date.116

“What? You mean you want me to find him a girl, and because I work here you think would be easy” Selvina smirked.117

“You are way ahead of me” John laughed.118

“Let us search than” Selvina jumped up.119

“What about her?” John pointed to a brunette.120

“Married, married, dating, and those two are well “together”, and so we are left with her” Selvina pointed out the entire selection of woman but a large plump woman behind the bar.121

“Excuse me” A soft voice came from behind them. “Can you tell me where I might be able to find the boss?” It asked poking John’s shoulder. They turned and found a delightful young lady very pretty and very well equipped with features. Her skin looked soft and tan and her eyes green.  The lady was dressed in a tight green dress that made her body look well figured. Selvina and John looked at each other and smiled.122

“I will be right back.” John stood as Selvina slipped off his lap.123

“Yes” She smiled. John ventured around looking for Ben. John found Ben standing at the end of the bar drinking a pint.124

”Ben comes with me. We found you a fine lass she is great, your type.” John led Ben from the bar to the stairs that led to the inn rooms.125

“She is up there?” Ben anxiously asked.126

“Yes” John pushed him.127

“What should I say?” Ben pulled back.128

“Just be you’re self” John shoved Ben up the first few steps and than walked off.129

“John, do I…” Ben turned to see John no where in sight.  John walked back to Selvina, “He is ready” He pointed to the stairs.130

“He is up stairs?” The young lady asked.131

“Yes” Both John and Selvina snapped.132

“Ok, wish me luck” The lady smiled and rushed to the stairs.133

“Good luck” They shouted and turned to laugh. They lady rushed up the stairs and walked into the first room, Ben sat on the bed. “Hello?” She smiled amiably.134

“Hello, what’s your name?” Ben stood.135

“My name is Ginger, Well what do you think?” She asked moving closely to him.136

“Well, your, umm... Beautiful? And well figured” Ben stuttered.137

“Thanks?” The Ginger asked confused.138

“Listen I’m not so good at the talking to woman.” Ben shook his head.139

“Oh it’s ok.  I understand how you feel.  I haven’t been in a relationship in years.” She moved closely to him and rubbed his back.140

“Really? Looking like that I would think you have all sorts of soldiers after you” Ben smiled looking up.141

“You are cute” She pushed his nose in giggling.  Ginger slowly went in and started kissing him.  They fell back on the bed Ginger on top of Ben.142

Eyrion lay on the hill with Linda next to him. Their bodies imprinted in the long grass as they gazed into the sky, watching the stars dance and the moon sparkle. They laughed at jokes and smiled sweetly at each other. They talked about nonsense that neither of them knew answers about, and what they wanted from life.143

“Let’s cut you’re hair.” Linda giggled.144

“What? No” Eyrion brushed his hair back.145

“Oh come on, it will look so much better shorter in the back and the front we will trim a little.” She ran her hands through his hair.146

“I like it long” He protested sitting up.147

“Don’t speak rubbish, it could look so much better” She smiled looking up at him.148

“Do you think?” Eyrion asked quietly leaning over Linda.149

“I do” Lind leaned up and kissed Eyrion.  He blushed quickly and then it went away.  “Look it’s a new moon” she looked back into the sky.150

“Beautiful” Eyrion’s eyes were still shut tightly.151

“Well, how did you like it?” Linda asked pulling him back down into the grass, wrapping his arm around her.152

“Like what?” He smiled.153

“The kiss, it’s a sign of affection” Linda explained.154

“I have never been told of anything of this. It might be how I was brought up.” Eyrion exhaled deeply. “I grew up away from everyone and every thing, my mothers schooled me, and my father taught me how to hunt.” He smiled.155

“Well someday you will meet them again, but until then let us get to know each other better.” She smiled curling up to his side.156

Awww. It so sad what happened to Eyrion when he was younger. I'm reading the story in 'All Fantasy'. It's great. You're a very talented writer. This is written brilliantly. Nice to know some more about him.
