Final Tribute

It didn't take long to find. She just followed the directions on the map, and dug where x marked the spot.  She lifted up the box and opened it.  It was just as she remembered the love poems, for she had buried them forty years ago.1

Now she needed to bury them again - with her husband.2

Author notes

A nice short contest - that doesn't take much time to enter.  Great idea.  Wonder what kind of results you will get.  Thanks for doing this.  Hard to create something so short that tells a story that means something.

What a touching and romantic story. But to have buried his love letters all those years ago... a curious thing to do. A good write, a lot said and unsaid in this unique piece

I promised more of a comment.
I like the idea of this. I ssort of like a time capsule that one digs up to look at 25, 50 or even 200 years later. What will we find.
I too wonder why the letters were buried the first time and now again. Will she read them before reintering them?
You have given us a great deal here, but left us with much to ponder as well.
    Really very well done.

aw, love letters. I really appriciate the sentimental value that this story holds. I would probably do something like this as I have a trunk full of letters (not all love letters, but some)

Very well written and very meaningful.

This is very sad but a wonderful tribute to the poems and hopefully good company for her departed husband.

    Good luck in the contest.

This is such a touching story. This made me think of my grandmothere for some reason although i know she kept all the letters my grandfather sent her while he was in Germany and abroad during the war. I wonder why she buried them all those years while he was still alive? How odd. Good luck in the contest.

This little fifty five count poem reminded me of the Desparate Housewife Television show. So many unusual secretive things going on during that show that you have to tune in the next week I want to know what happens next in your poem???!!!!

    Cheryl Cheers!!
