If you were given the chance to have everything you ever wanted and more, would you take it?1

No matter what you had to do to get it?

  • No...wait actually it really depends on what I'd have to do and I honestly don't know what I want more than anything so if I don't know it, then how can I ever get such a chance?

Guess I need to start thinking about what I want first. It sure as hell would be vague and not only one thing. World peace would be pretty epic. No disease, poverty, or prejudice would also be cool.

But hell, if those were the things I wanted, then I'd do anything for it.

Interesting question I'm not sure I answered with something anyone would understand. I need to have more hope on the human race. xD

but no. If I had to do anything to get it, I wouldn't do it. I could hurt someone I loved and end up with no one. But then again. If I had everything I ever wanyed, I could have family and loved ones and evrything else...hmmm. I would say yes then! I would marry my boyfriend and be a happy camper!

hmmm. Hard question. Everything has a price. Then again if it's a if you want it you get it and no negative results maybe. then again life would get pretty boring if you had nothing to work for.Everything that you go through affects who you are so maybe if it was all just handed to you you would end up not becoming who you were meant to be? It would be hard to pass up but I think I would...

    It's a tempting offer...

Well, obviously, that depends. If you asked me to commit murder or steal in order to obtain this so-called "Utopia" then no; I wouldn't do it in a million years. However, if the opportunity to have everything was given to me on a silver platter, then maybe. It's a hard question to answer...*chews lip thoughtfully*

We all have different values and perspectives on what we consider to be "the perfect life." For me, this "perfect life" is a close-knit town somewhere where all the neighbors know me and I can just write all day long with my dog, never having to worry about paying the bills, work, or growing old. I'm not a materialistic person, never was, but some extra cash to spoil myself would be nice (and what kind of girl wouldn't want that?).

The perfect soul mate, or husband, would be someone who respects God, treats me like a princess, and listens to me when I bitch and moan. They have to put up with all my mood swings and act like the brotherly best friend. Ideally, this imaginary lover of mine would be a carbon copy of Danny Gokey from American Idol *sighs dreamily* so...yeah .

    Anyways, great question.
Thanks for making me think XD.

No, I wouldn't. Being able to have all the things I want and more would take away a lot of motivation.

The prize matters not, but the journey to it. Even if it takes some work to get everything I wanted, once I got it, what then? I would have EVERYTHING. What would be the point of even trying to amuse myself when I have done it all?

If I want to become good at something, I have to practice. Being able to get really good at it and look back thinking "I busted my ass to get as good as I have, and it was worth it," Is the whole reason why the prize is so valued.

    No-

because anything worth having is worth working for. Having it handed to you when you haven't earned it isn't much of a gain. Also- There's a catch to everything, and these types of scenarios generally have things we wouldn't normally do attached to them. Forsaking things like morals, self-worth, self esteem, the good of others... Not something that can be given away so easily.

I wouldn't take it simply because I am happy with the life I ended up with.

  • That depends, really...
Love? Making a mark in history that would never be forgotten?
It all depends, really. Monetary or materialistic gain is not in my book of powerful wants, so in that case, no.

I'm quite content with what I have at the moment, if not a little frustrated.

But if it were either of the two mentioned at first... Love, obviously, would hold no restraints. Being remembered? That depends on how I'd be remembered.

  • I guess it would all depend on what it was I really wanted.
Because I've lived my life up to this point fairly content only having what I could get, and not having all I want, but, however, even this meager amount I;ve had to claw and fight for.
So it makes me wonder if that whole 'no matter what you had to do' thing isn't that big of a deal, because really, I'm already doing things I shouldn't/don't want to in order to get things, in order to gain a little happiness.
But I still haven't answered the question.

If there was something that I desperately wanted at the time of the offer, yes, I'd take it.
If nothing came to mind and my only motivation was greed, then, no, I'd have to decline.
I'm content enough only wanting those things, and not actually having them.

    I don't know.
Everyone in these comments seems to have taken this wide prophetic look that you probably wouldn't even consider until after you'd seen someone take the chance. I think, in the moment, I'd probably be swept up; I wouldn't give it two seconds of thought. I mean, but I'm just naive in the moment, you know. I'm sure that if I had time to think about it, my mind would make the leap around the "No matter what you had to do" bit.

    Nein.

What would have to lose? The things I love most likely. And other things that I'm perfectly content with.

Am I reading too much into the question?

    --Aden

  • Absolutely not. If I did that, I would have to die very soon for part of my life dream is to die old and young at heart, still happy. I want a long and self-achieved life. I want to be able to look at everything when I'm ninety and say "You did a good job. You have lived. And you have achieved." And I'm not talking physical possessions. Just accomplishments, friends, securities. The things we really need and the abstract things I want like happiness and education and truth.

The whole point of my existance is to do something people in my family have only done once (thisnwas my great-grandmother): live a long time, never battle with addiction, and accomplish something (travel, write, etc). If I didn't havethis desire, if it was just handed to me, my life would have no more point.

  • No.
Since in this day and time, there is always the worst catch ever. Rather it has to do with being some old-guys-in-a-suit's-slave or giving them some odd account of money, and or your home phone number, address, yadayada, so while your having that life you've always wanted, it starts to become hell.
    I'm thinking about business' here..

In all reality you should be happy if you have people with you that you love, and couldn't live with out. You shouldn't give up anything, and be greedy to have even more happiness and pleasure.

And if some are, then why the hell not add it to this pot of failure and demise and be happy till the earth full on kills mankind, eh?

  • No. Not if it came at a price. The reason this world is in such turmoil is because of people who were willing to do whatever it takes, and that means wars, famine, global warming, diseases.

Greed is the downfall of our earth.

    No. Most definitely not.

Greed and selfishness lead to all sorts of dissatisfaction in life. Even if one was to obtain all their so-desired Earthly pleasures.
Half the enjoyment in having anything - be it material values and possessions or of the spiritual nature; love, happiness and serenity - is derived from the challenges overcome to obtain that possession, is it not?

And, as always, I would assume that there would be some sort of catch to such a wondrous offer..?
