{ B. L. O. O. D} the first chapter:

She had never dreamt of someone so utterly beautiful. Someone who was so poised and delicate as he, no one as intriguing. He came to her that night, for the first time. 1

He would come to her many times after this first time, but none of his visits would stay with her like his first. No kiss of his would remain as vivid, the very burning feeling of his mouth over hers, not leaving passion but a bad memory. He'd leave with her a dark orb that settled into her heart and caused her body to shake in the torment that only a nightmare could deliver.2

She did not regret ever meeting him, nor did she regret dying to do so. 3

All she wanted to do was to remain with him, even at the cost of her soul. She did not know if this was the work of the magic of hell, or of her own heart being so close to his own. Even though it was bust, and did not work like a human heart was meant to, she still longed to hold it. She wouldn't mind the black stains it would leave in her palms as well as the guilt.4

She'd sold her soul long before she'd met him, and she'd sell it time and time again just to look into those black eyes once more.5

------------------------------------6

Raine had never been an angel, but she'd never been completely evil either. She had never done anything worthy of death, but she hadn't done anything truly redeeming either. She was a mystery to the skies, and to the underworld. A blunder, a mistake. Her spirit tally read an even 50/50. As many sins as charity committed. 7

Peter was in toil, for in the first time in what must have been almost a century, there had never been someone who deserved neither heaven or hell. Even purgatory had no place for her. He nervously glanced at her file once more, double-checking her death time. It hadn't changed. Fifteen year old Raine Roscoe was going to die today, a horrible death and no power of the angels could save her.8

The eternal Saint closed his eyes solemnly, and prayed that God would someone turn fate into the advantage of this young girl. His eyes peeled open slowly, and he shifted his gaze back to Earth, where he saw Raine living what would be her last while on the planet Earth.9

"It's too tight.... " he said as he bit his lower lip somberly. He let his fingers run down to the laces and they tried fruitlessly to lighten the hold the shoe held on his small foot.11

"It is..? " she spoke in a voice that was velvety by nature, and somewhat adjusted with a certain sweetness as she spoke to her younger brother. "I'm sorry about that, buddy." she smiled weakly at him.12

Her fingers looped around the worn out laces and relieved Hayden of the constraint, he showed his appreciation by slapping his hand lightly against her cheek in a sing-song matter.13

"Thank you, Rai" he smiled his best toothless smile.14

"It's okay, just go hurry up okay? I can't be late again, I'll be murdered by Ms. Engarez" she sighed in a matter that let the kid know he had to be quick, and off he ran.15

"Raine," called a familiar voice "do you have your Spanish project ready?" 16

Raine cringed to the sound of her always concerned guardian's voice, "Uhmmmmm... maybe?" she tried to replicate Hayden's innocent, seven-year old smile but it came off as cheap and immature.17

"Raine...... you really need to gear up in your studies, I'm not saying you need to pick up all the pieces immediately.. " she spoke in a tone now of sympathy. "It was hard for us all..."18

Raine shot her a look of 'you-don't-know-how-it-feels' and her Aunt slightly shifted in her slippers to the glare.19

"Sweetheart, you know I don't mean it like that. We all know you and Hayden are suffering the most from this.... change, but it's what your mother would have wanted.." -20

Suddenly, Raine's mind was filled with the images of that bloody night, the scene suddenly fresh in her mind. She could feel the atmosphere she had felt on that rainy day, and she could smell the burnt rubber and twisted metal. Most of all, she could see her mother's lifeless face...21

-" she would want you and your brother well taken care of, and doing well in your studies.. she wouldn't want you skipping school, or smoking for that matter, and she would have wanted you to--" 22

"STOP!" she cried out in a tone more of anguish then anger. "I know what she wants from me.... okay? I-I need to go to school now... HAYDEN!!"23

Aunt Sophie gazed at her through eyes of hurt and more sympathy, " Please darling, let's talk sometime.. you've got to let me in sometime..."24

"NOT RIGHT NOW, PLEASE. I really need to go now... HAYDEN HURRY UP! Okay.. for Spanish, I'll give the report to her tomorrow... I know what my mother expects of me, and it's not the same as what you expect of me... HAYDEN!!"25

"Ooii, I'm comin', I'm comin' Rai," he whined in an annoyed tone.26

Her aunt stopped her and kissed her on a forehead in a sadly mysterious way, and pat Hayden's back. 27

Raine rushed out of the door, practically dragging the seven year old vessel beside her through the lawn.28

The routine eventually had fallen into place, avoid Sophie, get Hayden and yourself to school. Make up excuse for why you don't ever do your work for school, it's not because you're stupid it's because you're not worth it, but if you let them believe it's cause' you're stupid, they'll let it go sooner. Dodge Jack in the hallways and call him later and tell him you do care about your relationship, it's just you don't care about anything anymore. Don't think about that day, April 28th. 30

God may have created the world in seven days, but I shattered mine in seven seconds, that night will haunt me in and out of dreams until I leave this place, this I know. 31

Inhale whatever Aunt Sophie puts in front of you, and wear baggy clothes so she can't tell you've lost seventeen-point-two pounds in the last month. Jack notices, but he knows if he brings it up it'll make you sad, and he's tired of the fights, he says he just wants to lay beside you and see you smile.32

What's wrong with him? Can't he tell that this isn't something he can't fix...?33

34

And, eventually. Close your eyes and pray that you don't see it again and again and again like you do every night. Wish upon a star that you don't see your mother's body distorted and contorted in ways the men at the ER have never seen before, in sadistic interest. Shut your eyes tight, so that the tears won't come out, and hope you'll be able to forget the way you wished you had died, and not the redhead who lit up the room with fire and life, the one who taught you that you were something special.35

Fall asleep, and cross your heart that you won't fail them.36

--37

He stared at her, as her body seemed to snap in violent ways the human body was never thought possible to. Her neck whipped to the side so quickly he thought it must have killed her.38

Until he heard her breath infiltrating the black air, notes of sadness and regret filled through each sigh and gasp.39

He wasn't allowed, but he came closer to her. He was not permitted to take any special interest in any humans, but this one held some sort of puzzle to him, he couldn't see into her mind..40

it must have been the work of a nightmare, a powerful one. The type he has every night about his last seconds on Earth, and how they were stolen from him. He hissed loudly into the quiet room at the memory of this, and his large fangs protruded from his white, dead lips.41

Raine let out a sudden gasp, and Night stopped his growling at once. She simply let out another sigh, and turned onto her side as her face continued to crumble in pain.42

He crawled back up the wall slowly and for the first time noticed her white nightgown, and the way it clung to her body tightly, sticking due to the sweat of her tremors of fear.43

His kind didn't feel attraction for humans at all, for when you go to Hell, love is something you don't find easily (ever again.) He didn't feel any sympathy for humans, but he did come to see this particular one, due to the rumours going through the Black Abyss that this human would face what he once did.44

Night became distracted by the fidgeting of the girl's lips, as the curled inwards as if to cry, but suddenly bellowed out in pain. 45

He had never kissed before in his entire life, when would he be permitted to visit Earth again..? Besides, all of the angels in heaven were surely watching him right now. Perhaps God would be watching..?46

Excellent. Night decided he'd piss God off on purpose.. he no longer needed to fear God as God had hurled him innocently into Hell without any regret.47

He climbed down the wall swiftly and came closer to the long-haired girl's bed, and kneeled beside her. In one quick movement, he scooped her up into his scarred arms and sat back on the bed, as she slept numbly in his arms.48

He brushed her ashen hair out of her eyes in a gentle fashion he didn't know a demon like himself could have. He suddenly felt a singe of pity for her, but then laughed loudly at the thought.49

A demon feeling pity for a disgusting life form like a teenage girl...? Please.50

Night couldn't deny it, he felt some sort of attachment to her, but ignored it because it was something unnatural for a spirit like him.51

He decided to stop delaying, and with God watching, he brought Raine closer to him and placed his porcelain lips against hers, the sudden beating of her pulse in them alarming him a bit. As she had been sleeping rather quietly now, he embarrassingly had forgotten she was alive.52

He replaced his lips over hers, and cringed a bit when he felt burning deeper then he ever had in his mouth. Demons were forbade love, and any act that resembled it. This pain was surely sent from God himself, Night decided. God be damned, he kissed her deeper and more ardently. He could feel the nightmare shifting nervously inside of Raine now..53

unfortunately for this little black orb, every demon loves the taste of a good nightmare. He sucked it out of her and swallowed it, and was again startled when it burned on it's way down his throat and into his heart.54

The colour began to re-emerge in her face, and her eyes shifted in a manner that suggested she would soon awake. Night removed his face from the proximity of hers, and was about to place her back in her bed when suddenly her grey eyes popped open, startled and stared into his dark crimson ones.55

She didn't seem scared, and this puzzled him even furthered. She instead of screaming leaned closer to him and wrapped her arms around him in a way that suggested she wanted to be held again.56

"Am I going to die now ?" she asked solemnly, in her deeply velvety, sweet voice.57

He looked her in the eyes and said "Why would you want to die, you stupid girl?" He felt a sudden anger towards her, and blew his breath in her face, knocking her out again.58

He tossed her back into her bed, grunting and slammed her window open violently, swearing to never return again.59

Raine returned to sleep, now no longer dreaming of that fateful night, but rather of the red eyed boy who had come to her in a dream. It was still a nightmare... but it was the very best she had ever had.62
