Elizabeth paused outside her door before opening it. The smell was stronger than before. At least one other person was in the room. Her new roommate didn't look like loose type, but there was no way to be sure, so she knocked.1
"Come in," Kira called. Beth swung open the door and looked into the face of a young man - early thirties from the structure of his face and the cut of his hair. He smiled but did not move, keeping close to Kira.2
Bodyguard? Boyfriend? Elizabeth wondered. He was certainly too young to be her father. Perhaps an older brother or cousin...young uncle? Whatever he was, he was protective. He made no attempt to move.3
"Hey Kira," Beth smiled, walking up to her bed and dragging down a box full of desk supplies. "Care to introduce me?" She moved to the other desk and began unloading paper, pencils, pens and notebooks.4
"I'm Josiah. Pleased to meet you." He moved forward and kissed Beth's hand, flashing another grin.5
"Likewise, Joe," Beth giggled, tucking the kissed hand behind her back. "I'm Elizabeth, as you've probably figured out."6
Smooth Clyde, real smooth. Beth turned back to her desk, dragging out her own laptop and plugging it in, along with a tiny printer. She turned back to the other people in the room. For some reason, she felt uneasy. Something wasn't right, quite apart from the fact that Kira's supposed father must have fathered her at the age of eleven.

Ha, "Kira's supposed father must have fathered her at the age of eleven" It was very funny.
I like how you made there be a sense of curiosity, awkwardness and suspicion. Beth is really interesting. Oh, and I
the name Kira. Reminds me of DeathNote.
