Princess Katara gazed out over the vast ocean, having to squint as the sunlight reflected off from the water’s surface. 3
‘So this is how a civilization is destroyed’ Katara thought to herself as she recalled the series of events that had led to this point.4
Once; Calidon had been a prosperous city, ruled by the King and Queen. Silk, wool, and other treasures had been traded within the walls now empty, forgotten. Its proud armada, which she had always come to trust, lay cracked and broken, cast to the bottom of the ocean. Out of its population of 6,975,009, only 750 came out alive.5
At this exact hour two weeks ago, a devastating earthquake tore right through the middle of the city, turning its greatest buildings into ashes. Before the entire city fell on top of them, Queen Katara, along with 400 citizens, 200 foot soldiers and 150 archers, managed to escape on 15 transports, taking with them as many supplies they could save.6
A bird screeched in the distance, shaking Katara out of her thoughts. The ship next to Katara’s lit a fire and shone it three times in a row, the all clear signal.7
“I don’t like the looks of those clouds, my lady.” A voice said from behind her. She turned around to see a man in his late thirties walking toward her. He wore a plain warrior uniform; a red shirt, black pants, chain mail, and a sword strapped to his waist.8
“I suggest you go inside.” He looked worried.9
She let out a mocking laugh “My fate will be the same as the rest of my people.”10
“My lady, please.” He argued. 11
She smiled at his concerned expression “It’ll be all right, Mac.” She assured him.12
As if sensing there was nothing he could do to change her mind, or to think up of another reason for her to go inside; he strode off into the main cabin, almost colliding with John.13
John rushed toward her and whispered “My lady; with all the people getting sick, and all the weeks we have been at sea, we are running out of supplies.”14
Katara sighed and stared up at the dark and thunderous clouds “Why us, John; why us?”15
He did not have an answer...16

(Allermerra: Council of Elders Hall)18
“My people are dying, crops are being stolen, and I have wait two weeks until you give a dam!?” Melivett was furious; in all of Allermerra he had never felt so helpless.19
“It is not that we don’t care; it is just that we have more important things to worry about than Sarn and its petty squabble with Cosfel.” The first elder answered gently.20
Rage started to fill Melivett as he took all this in; he thought back to the people, his people, dying of illness and hunger, as Cosfel poisoned their water supply.21
“Isn’t there anything you can do?” Melivett asked desperately. “We are hopelessly outnumbered!”22
The second elder sighed, and then suggested “Wait until we can help.”23
A reply almost escaped Melivetts lips, but he stopped it just in time, and instead said “Very well; thank you for your time.” Sometimes you just can’t argue with the law.24
