Humanity

"I had always said, in the face of great disaster and tragedy, humanities true colours are revealed. Humanity is a young race, violent and just learning but all in all it was an amazing race."1

It was early, around seven in the morning, people were just waking up sluggishly, they didn’t know what was about to occur. The day was nice, the sun glittering over head as wisps of clouds passed through it with little effect, cars sped along tarmac covered roads, their engines humming quietly as people drove to work or wherever they needed to be with bleary eyes. It happen quickly, nobody knew it would happen, it was like a freak accident. 2

"I heard a quote once, ‘God’s a kid with a play park’ it seemed on that day, God had a tantrum."3

It was near to the cost, just on the coast actually. Brighton, it was called, an old, well known town with people of all colours, shapes, sizes, races and sexualities. The sea was acting strange, that’s the only thing that could of warned them but as content as they were in their boredom dictated lives they didn’t. The wind kicked up but they didn’t notice that either, it was always windy here. People travelling to work and to town and other such places all stopped in place and turned as one to a giant spinning vortex of wind which destroyed everything in its path.4

"Humans will always run if they can’t contend with something, its fight or flight, something humans have always known. That’s why, when it hit, people panicked and ran."5

They helped each other, opening car doors until all the cars were filled before they tore off, tires squealing as they raced out of the way of the giant vortex. It tore up everything in its path, the sea thrashing in its wake. House collapsed, people screamed and people huddled in their houses, clutching their children was the windows rattled so hard it seemed they were tear in half. When all was said and done, people stopped to take stock of the situation, the amazing minds going through plan after plan. The uninjured going to hurt peoples aid. Whether it was a teen kneeling down next to a crying little girl or an old man helping up a young man, people were amazing the way that they helped anyone that needed it. A group were pulling rubble off of a person and another group was tidying up for the ambulances to get through.6

"Humans really were amazing creatures. Young, yes, inexperienced, that’s true but still they had qualities which overpowered that aspect. In situations like this one, they will learn because its in their nature. Until that day arrives, I’ll watch quietly."
