“You know, a funny thing happened on my way to work today.”
Fera looked up from where she was curling a woman’s red locks and raised a delicate eyebrow. “Okay, you have my attention. What happened?”1
Cassi draped her jacket over her chair and dropped into it with a smile. “I met this really odd guy. Don’t get me wrong, he was drop dead gorgeous, but odd.”2
“Odd? As in too odd for his looks to cover it?”3
With a laugh, Cassi began to pull out the tools of her job and set them on the vanity before her. “No, far from it actually. He was odd because when he saw me looking at him…”4
“Cassidy! You got caught? You need better training.”5
“Haha.” The brunette rolled her eyes, “Anyway, when he saw me looking he acted like it was the weirdest thing. He came running across the street to me and actually asked me if I could see him. I told him of course I could, he was kind of hard to miss.” She closed her eyes and brought him back to her mind. He was an old world handsome, thin yet strong. Not like the body builder types one usually saw around Los Angles, California. He was paler, so he wasn’t the surfer type, more like the book smart kind of person. 6
“Cassi, you’re daydreaming again.” Fera’s words cut into her thoughts and Cassi blinked a few times to come back to the now. “What did he say after that?”7
“He stared at me for a few minutes and then reached out and touched my cheek, as if he was expecting me to disappear or something when he got to close. Then he said something like, ‘You’re like Natalya and Adina. You think you can save me too?’ It was the weirdest thing and I didn’t answer that. I excused myself and just left him on the sidewalk.”8
“Oh honey,” Fera chuckled, “he asked you to save him and you walked away? You really are hopeless. I would have skipped work and taken that man home with me. I’ll save him, go find him again.”9
“Fera, you’re deplorable.” Yet Cassidy laughed as she spoke it.10
“That’s a harsh word. I would say more along the lines of trigger happy.”11
“Trigg… oh dear.” Cassi’s dark brown eyes had glanced over her friend’s shoulder and locked onto a rather attractive man. The one from the street. He was making his way straight towards her, sure of his destination. “Fera, he’s behind you.”12
Fera and the red head both turned to face that direction then turned back frowning. “Cassi, there’s no one there except James the overbearing ass. You checking him out now?”13
“No! Gross!” Cassi cringed yet kept her eyes on the man she was sure was real. “You really can’t see him?” He paused to wave a hand in front of Fera’s face and looked back at Cassi.14
“You still want to tell me I am hard to miss?” His voice had that accent, the one she couldn’t place. “They cannot see me, only you can. I only know of two others who can see me, both female surprisingly. I ask you again, can you save me?”15
Cassi swallowed as he stood toe to toe with her, he was a lot taller than her, at least a foot. “Um…”16
“What do you know of the Greek and their gods?”17
What an odd question. “Are you Greek?”18
He smiled then and Cassi forgot to take her next breath. “You have no idea.”
Author notes
So daily prompt for 5 June. It probably makes no sense to people who don't know the series I'm working on. That's pretty much everyone. Cassi and Grayson are the third story, but they seemed to fit for this prompt so tada!
