It all began with Prometheus, the titan who gave men fire.1
Prometheus was chained to the rock for "tricking" or "defying" Zeus three times, but the vulture punishment was added for another reason. Zeus sent Hermes to demand that Prometheus tell who would bear the son of his downfall, of who Prometheus did indeed know, but refused to tell. 2
Diphone is the daughter of Athena, the daughter that she kept secret from all the world, for Diphone was to be the one to dethrone Zeus. Her name means "God slayer". Prometheus had started the "rumor", so to speak, that it was a son who would kill Zeus, but in fact, it was to be a daughter of a daughter. 3
Diphone is able to see the most evil part of mortals and be able to alter that part, killing it or increasing its power over the mortal psyche. She is able to perceive the atmosphere or origin of a person, place or thing by feeling, and can mimic another's power for a limited length of time.4
Diphone was hidden in the spiritual plane by her mother until she found that one mortal who was destined to bond with her
(soul to soul, thinking of themselves as "I" not "we"), so her symbol has a mortal element to it. The symbol that is on her shield is a circle with the four elements and an etching of her on the Olympian throne with a beautiful clay figurine in her cupped hands. 5
She sits now in her temple.6

More and more mortals know about me...I'm not sure if that is a good thing, or a bad thing in the end. What if I am betrayed? The fledgling Goddess pondered, sitting in her chair in her temple hidden in the forests of an island far off the coast of Greece. Only those mortals with good intentions could find it. It was too dangerous in Greece for her.8
"Mother, I think it was a mistake to let mortals know of who I am and what I am to do. They worship me! I do not feel that I am ready for such adoration. What if I let them down? What if they betray me? What if I die...." Athena stopped her with a finger to her lips.9
"My dear, your subjects adore you not only for your destiny, but for what you do. You free mortals from their darker natures, allowing them to live good lives and avoid the wraths of the Gods." She smiled tenderly at her. "Only mortals who wish to do you no harm can find you, which means that they will not allow any God or Goddess know of you just yet." Athena then looked to the open arch of the inner chamber when a priestess announced that another worshiper had arrived.10
"Allow them entry, Klarissa." Diphone called. Even though she was nervous, her combined souls thrummed with excitement. Her mortal soul sought to heal, and her divine entity cried out to save the mortal. She couldn't help but revel in the power that ran through her the closer the shuffling mortal came to her. 11
The many mirrors in the hall showed her body starting to glow with celestial light, her eyes filling with bright gold energy. The mortal gasped when he knelt at her feet and looked up into her luminescent face. 12
"G-g-god-d-dess," he stuttered,"I am in need of your guidance, your healing." He looked down, bringing his offering from the inner folds of his toga. "I have traveled a long way across the water, and am thankful that my offering remained whole." He revealed a beautiful sculpture about three inches high. 13
It was Diphone, in battle stance with her weapons and shield, her body looking fairly alive with life and power. The mortal lifted it up to her reverently, gazing into her face with fierce adoration.14
Speechless, the Goddess accepted the offering and then in turn handed it to her mother. Smiling, Diphone got up and then knelt next to the mortal, the train of her virgin robes pooling around her. 15
"Mortal, dear mortal, I Feel your plight, Feel your grief and guilt. Your evil will be purged, your wrongs forgiven." And with that, she tenderly laid a hand on his once again bowed head and let that eager energy flow from her into him.16
The man was encased in healing energy, his evil fled and was destroyed by her divine might. The mortal was weeping when she withdrew her hand. A changed man, he thanked her and shuffled out the way he came, still sobbing in joy. 17
Diphone beamed on her throne, her souls joyful and merry. This is what she was meant to do. She would work to heal mankind, preparing them for the war that was to come, she at the lead. She would prevail, and Zeus will fall once and for all at my powerful hand!

Okay yes, has to be added to my finalists. A great mythological story with your own original flair and take on its design. The tone you used to narrate this piece was fantastic.
