...A few nights later...5

Do you feel like telling me the rest of the Caitlin story tonight, Mommy?6

Sure sweetheart...7

When we left Caitlin, she had locked herself away from the rest of the world once again.She missed Michael terribly, but she was too scared to open her heart again. She was so used to being hurt by this time that she could not see the horrible mistkae she was making by isolating herself.8

What mistake?9

Caitlin was so busy trying to convince herself that love was nothing but trouble, keeping herself at arms length from Michael that she failed to notice that she was falling in love with him.10

But Mommy!! What about Lily? I thought she was Caitlin's 'One And Only'? And...and I thought Caitlin only liked girls?11

This was all very confusing to Caitlin as well. I am sure, my love, that you have realized that this is not an ordinary fairy tale.12

Yes, I have.13

Well, in this story, you learn that sometimes you stop loving your 'One And Only'. And sometimes you are lucky enough to have another chance at happiness.14

But I thought you could only have one 'One And Only'?15

Not always..Anyway, although Caitlin still loved Lily, she knew they could never be happy togther. Lily cared too much about what everyone else thought of her. She did not care if she hurt Caitlin. And as Caitlin realized this, she started to fall out of love with Lily.16

And Michael actually loved Caitlin!17

Yes, Caitlin believed that Michael really and truly loved her, as she loved him. 18

But Mommy, what about the mistake you said Caitlin was making. How could falling in love be a mistake?19

Falling in love wasn't Caitlin's mistake. Failing to tell Michael that she loved him, THAT was her mistake. She realized that she had to tell him as soon as possible. Her problem was that she was shy. Caitlin was worried that if she told Michael how she really felt about him, he may not feel the same. 20

That's a silly worry. How could she know if she didn't try?21

She didn't. So someday soon, we will come to the part of the story where Caitlin forgets her worries and her what-ifs, and tells Michael exactly how she feels. But not tonight...22

Well, darling, that part of the story has not happened yet...24
