Anything Goes

I close my eyes, taking Sean’s hand into mine.  I look down at the wrinkled hands in front of me, how did we get here? I close my eyes once again, remembering……….1

*********** ************ ********* *********
I open my ugly blue locker, as my best friend comes up behind me. “Hey, Katydid.”
I feel the smile creeping up on my face at his voice. “I told you not to call me that, Sean.”
“Why not, you used to let me call you that.”
I turn around to see the perfect image that is my best friend. Sean is perfect; he has brown hair and brown eyes. When he smiles his whole face lights up; he is strong, but not overly strong. He loves to laugh and have fun, he is every girl’s dream, but he doesn’t want any of them, he is my best friend. I watch his eyes light up, “Yeah, when we were in pre-school.”
“So, I like it, it fits you.”
“My grandma will be so proud.” I mutter sarcastically.
“What?”
“Nothing; what are we doing this weekend?”
He reaches around me, and closes my locker. I watch him, he notices, and smiles at me. I feel my heart melting.
I’ve had a crush on Sean since we were in pre-school, and we’re in eleventh grade, count the years. We had been best friends in pre-school through third grade, but he moved in third grade, and I ended up hating, luckily for him, he came back in fifth grade, and we ended up becoming best friends again. He was lucky he was gone in third grade; I had balled my eyes out when left.
“Kaitlyn?”
“What?” He’s snapping his fingers in front of my face.
“What are we doing this weekend?”
I snort, “How should I know?”
“Because you’re the smart one?”
I laugh; I take his hand, “Come on, boy, we’re going.”
I hear him laugh behind me. “Boy? I like it, girl.”
I smile at him, looking over my shoulder, “That’s nice; I don’t like Katydid or girl.”
“Come on Kaitlyn have some fun!”
I turn around to face him, “Sean, I have you for a best friend, I do have fun.”
I start walking again, pulling him behind me; he catches up to me, draping his arm around my shoulder. “Kaitlyn, I’m taking that as a compliment. Come to my house?”
“Sure, my parents aren’t going to be home anyway.”
“Cool,”
We walk to his house, stopping at my house to drop off my backpack. We live on the same block. Two houses away from my house some of our friends caught up with us, “Hey you guys, wait up!”
“Walk faster Jake and Miranda!”
“Maybe if you guys didn’t walk so fast we wouldn’t have a problem!”
I smile at Jake, “Don’t go blaming your problems on other people now….”
Sean and Miranda laugh at well Jake sticks his tongue out at me. “That was unfair,”
I just laugh, “Come on guys, Sean and I are almost home,”
Jake smiles at Miranda, “Yep, that’s right, got to give the two love birds time to spend together, I mean, they walk home together, they might as well hold hands and make out and get it over with!”
I blush and Sean laughs. Gosh, I love his laugh…..
Before we can get into anything else Jake and Miranda leave, leaving Sean and me alone again. We make a quick pit stop at my house before walking to his.
As he opens the door my hand brushes against his; he looks down at me, smiling. I give him a weak, embarrassed smile. Does he know? Does he know and understand what I feel when I’m with him? Does he know that I can feel every little move he makes when he’s near? How I swear, that if I ever got the chance to listen, that our heartbeats would beat to the same tune? Does he know how I love him so?
Sean takes my hand, after he dropped his back pack, and pulls me outside, into his mother’s garden. “What are you doing, tomorrow night, Kaitlyn?”
I look up at him surprised, “Nothing, I suppose, hanging out with you, probably.”
He nods his head; he’s got this intense look in his eyes, like he’s determined to do something. “Would you like to go to a movie, and then…..and then dinner?”
I look up at him, confused, “Did you just as me out on a date?”
He looks down sheepishly, “What’s your answer?”
I blush, looking down at his hand in mine, “Yes,”
He smiles, and leans down. Gently, he brushes his lips against mine. We both pull away smiling.2

I play with the diamond, silver, and sapphire ring on my hand. Our first date….I remember it like it was yesterday. It had been one of the best dates I’d ever had, of course at the time; it was the only date I’d ever had, but still. It was amazing. It had started to rain on our way to the restaurant, after dinner. 3

*********** ************ ********* *********
I smile at Sean as the rain starts to fall around us. We had decided to walk to the restaurant, only to have it start raining half way there. “I like the rain, Sean,” the way that it can be so beautiful, the way that it cleans, the way that it gives life to so many things.
He laughs, throwing his head back, “What’s not to like?” Yes, what’s not to like?
I smile again, watching as he laughs like a little boy in the rain. It starts to pour around us again, but we don’t care.
My wet hair clings to my neck and faces, making me shake my head like a dog. Sean follows my lead. I smile, wrapping my arms around him. He pulls me close, and then leans down to kiss me. He kisses the top of my head once we’ve stopped.
We start to walk to the restaurant, but there’s a sea of umbrellas. A couple blocks away is a park; we decide to walk there.
We find a dry spot on one of the benches. Only one problem. There’s only enough room for one person. Sean smiles as he sits; I blush as he pulls me into his lap. He caresses my check, softly. We both turn to watch the sea of umbrellas float around us. We watch as the rain hits them and bounces back off again, or runs of the sides, who know. All we can think of is each other.4

I remember when he gave me this ring. Our wedding day. It was beautiful. I stand, searching for a picture that. I find it on top of the mantle. A picture of me, still in my beautiful, poufy white wedding dress, lying down on a bench; Sean sits behind me, sort-of, my head on his knee. He’s looking down at me, but I’m looking off into the distance. Imagining our future together while he’s thinking about here and now; that’s why I love him. He’s spontaneous. He does what he wants, and he’s not afraid to do it.
I find another picture, this one of our honeymoon. We had gone over to England, packing suitcase after suitcase. I couldn’t wait for the trip to start. Ever since I was a little girl, I had wanted to go back to England.
Sean stood with patience while I looked in history museums and bookstores. He stood still as I haggled over prices of history books that I had to have, and started in wonder with me at some of England’s best castles. He never once complained….okay; maybe once or twice…..but, I could tell that even though he dislike History, he was still having a good time.
I remember one time; we were in London still…..5

*********** ************ ********* *********
I look around in wonder as we stand in the middle of a busy West End Street. Sean’s arms wrap around me from behind, “Which one would you like to see, love?” I shiver at how close he is, at how sweet and caring he sounds.
I turn around in his arms, “You don’t care?”
He shakes his head, “You pick,”
I smile as I point to one sign, 6

Anything Goes
Starring:
John Barrowman7

He sighs, “I should have guessed,” I smile as I pull him after me. I love John Barrowman, almost as much as I love Randy Harrison; I love Randy almost as much as I love my husband.
I kiss him softly as I pull him in line after me. We reach the front of the line, just before they run out of room. I’m so excited that I can barely walk without bouncing. I smile at Sean, he just rolls his eyes. But I can’t believe it, I’m going to go see John Barrowman!8

*********** ************ ********* *********
The play was amazing, as was John if I remember right. Which I do. John had come out after the play, greeting some of us; his partner Scott joined him also. I couldn’t believe it.
I search for another picture, this one with the four of us, John, Scott, Sean and me. For me, it was one of the best parts of our honeymoon.
Before we left to go back to the states, we decided that we would move here as soon as we could. It took us a couple of months, but we made it. We started a family together, I became a History Professor at the University of Cambridge, and Sean became an Actor.
I never would have guessed that he would someday become a great and famous actor. To me he was just my best friend, my lover, and my husband. To me he was everything. And I won’t lie, at first it was hard to share him with his fans……but we managed…kind of.
My life has been filed with love and romance, mostly from my husband, but from other people too. I never expected my life to turn out like this, but every day I thank God that it did. My life is always what I wanted and so much more.
I take one last look at my husband before I close my eyes, letting the world wash away in my memories as I find peace in my sleep.9

A/N: Okay, not sure if I did this right, but I gave it a shot! Um, I used three of the picture prompts, I can’t remember which ones though….sorry.

  • It's really good, pretty long but very good. It's very descriptive and a really good storyline!!

  • This was very cute. There were a few mechanical errors, but that happens to the best of us.
Thanks for entering my contest and good luck! :]
