CHAPTER FIVE2

Stephen knew that the only way to save Jessie was for him to turn her. It was a hard decision to make could he betray Caianya’s trust and turn Jessie or let her die again he would be betraying her trust in him. Stephen decided the only thing he could do was ask Jessie herself but the young eighteen year old was barely conscious. He placed his mouth right up to her ear,3

“Jessie; listen to me, you are dying but I can save you but you have to make the choice. To live you have to become as we are. Do you understand? Squeeze my hand if you want to live.” Stephen held her hand Jessie squeezed it tightly. Stephen held her gently in his arms finding her pulse he sank his fangs deep into her throat. With her blood came the poison Stephen took as much as he could. And he then made a deep cut in his arm and then he made Jessie take his blood. With the healing process came the burning fire of the change from mortal to immortal. They had to stay there until the change was complete if he were to move her now she might not survive. 4

Stephen went around the flat to make sure it was secure and that the hunters could not enter while he was gone to feed. He had to think of away of getting them out of this situation and making sure the town was safe. Usually the hunters would destroy the whole town and sometimes a whole city. 5

Stephen sat next to Jessie helping her through the change it was morning before her mortal life was gone and her immortal life begun.6

Caianya opened her eyes sunlight filled the room “How are you feeling sweet heart?” 7

Turning her head she saw the most handsome beautiful man, his blonde hair resting on his shoulders and his grey dove eyes and a smile that that made his eyes sparkle looking at her with love. Caianya smiled 8

“Where’s Jessie?” looking around the room. Stephen’s smile faded from his face. 9

“Jessie was poisoned by the same poison as you it works on a human a little differently but the outcome is death. The only way is...”11

“What do you mean Stephen? What have you done?”12

Stephen took a deep breath turned his back on her not wanting to see the hatred in her eyes. He had closed his mind to her so that she wouldn’t know until he explained. Now he opened his mind to her so she could see what happened.13

“You saved her life Stephen yes I’m angry but not at you I know you did what you thought was right. So don’t hate yourself for it.” Getting out of bed and walking across to him putting her arms around him. Stephen turned around to face her what he saw was something he didn’t expect everything that he had put her through in the last three days he wouldn’t have blamed her if she hated him forever.14

“Where is Jessie?”15

“In the other room but she hasn’t woken up yet. Caianya I did ask and it was her choice.”16

“I know.” She said leaning her body against his looking up she kissed him on his mouth. And for the first time she felt that she belonged. They stood there kissing for a very long time pulling away slightly Caianya asked. “So what do we do next?”17

“We wait until night fall that will be when they strike again. Unlike us the hunters cannot come out in the daylight hours...”18

“Like all the myths say about vampires, Wow”19

“Yes they are what your myths say we are. You see we must stop them they won’t stop until every last human is dead. I have known the hunters destroy whole cities. They are truly evil demonic. Where they come from no vampire knows but every vampire is terrified of them.”20

“How do we kill them?”21

“We kill them by beheading and burning their body to stop them rising again.”23

“And that is how they become zombie like.”24

“Yes.”25

“Now we have to find a way to behead and burn them, Ok so how?”26

“With this,” Stephen walked out of the room into the front room came back with something that looked like a small silver gun handed it to her. She could feel a pulse 27

“What is it?”28

“It is the Mercury gun it is designed to stun or kill hunters. To stun them it fires out a fiery red with the Mediterranean blue light but to kill them it fires flame orange and onyx black together. Jessie covered my back while I was healing you; I set the Mercury gun on stun.”29

“That’s how she became injured?”30

“Yes, she is a very brave young girl.”31

“Yes she is” Caianya suddenly felt her fangs extend and found it difficult to get a lungful of air into her body.32

Stephen noticed her difficulty in breathing “You need to feed Caianya. Come we shall feed together”33

“Where are we going?”34

“To the park there are many joggers around at this time of morning.”35

“You mean....”36

“Yes, come on we had better go”37

“What about Jessie?”38

Stephen thought for a moment “I will go out to feed you stop here with Jessie. You will feed from me just this once.” 39

Caianya nodded, he could see the relief written over her face. Her feeding will be a problem he knew that though but for now he will leave it.41

Caianya watched as Stephen left the flat, the thought of biting into some ones throat sickened her. How will she survive if she cannot get over this hurdle and yet the thought of drinking Stephen’s blood didn’t sicken her in-fact it seemed the normal thing to do. Maybe she will speak to Stephen about it when he got back from the park. In the meantime she proceeded to clean the flat most of her ornaments were smashed and scattered around the room, Caianya phoned one of the window companies to see how much it would cost and when could they fix it. She was told that it would be at least a week before they could come to repair the window but in the meantime she should put up a wooded board to prevent anyone trying to get in.42

Putting the phone down she went to check to see how Jessie was. To her surprise she was awake but was looking confused.43

“You’re awake then” it wasn’t a question it was a statement. Jessie asked,44

“What happened, have those creatures gone? I cannot remember much after I was hit by one of those poisonous arrows. I remember shooting at those creatures and then I don’t remember a single thing after that. Stephen asked me something I can remember him asking me something but that’s all.”45

“Jessie the poison almost killed you; you would have died if Stephen hadn’t of...”46

“What, what has he done to me?”47

“Don’t freak out now but the only way to save you was to turn you.”48

“I don’t understand...” and then it dawned on her she remembered. “O-my God both of you are vampires” it wasn’t so much of a question but more of a statement. Caianya looked at her friend and for the first time ever she saw fear and disgust on her face. 49

Jessie couldn’t speak for awhile so many different emotions going through her mind fear and disgust foremost in her mind. 51

“Don’t you dare look at me like that, Stephen turned you to save your life he did so because of our friendship. Should he have allowed you to die then?”52

“I didn’t mean it it’s just that I...I don’t know O-God Caianya I’m scared how...”53

“We shall be fine honest, Stephen will keep us safe. Come on Jess don’t cry. Everything will be fine you’ll see.” Caianya sat down next to Jessie putting her arms around her hugged her “We will be fine you’ll see.” Suddenly Caianya doubled up could hardly breath the pain in her chest was almost as bad at the pain she felt when she changed from human to vampire.54

“What’s wrong Caianya you look awful almost blue looking what’s wrong?” The pain subsided again Caianya took small and even breaths until she found that she could breath easily.55

“Stephen said it’s because I need to feed I haven’t taken blood for two days this is only my third day as a vampire the hunger is strong making it hard to breath and see straight. Stephen has gone out to feed he will give me blood when he returns.”56

Stephen instead of going to the park for fresh blood he went to a medical blood bank. Sat at the front desk was a young girl walking up to her Stephen hypnotised the girl giving the suggestion that he was a doctor and needed blood for a transfusion. Without hesitation the young girl went out back where the blood is kept and returned with several pints of blood. Thanking and suggesting she forget that he had ever been Stephen left the building and quickly returned to the flat. He new that Caianya was in danger of dying he sensed she was finding it difficult to breathe before long she would be unconscious if she didn’t feed now. He should have thought about it but he hadn’t anticipated the hunters finding him so quickly.57

They had almost caught him in the last city he had been in and a lot of innocent people were killed because of him. At the time he didn’t really care after all they were only human and food. Now the guilt he felt was almost unbearable and the shame he felt. He may not be able to bring back all his victims but he did have a chance in saving this town and its residences. Stephen reached the flat within the twenty minutes he had taken the door key before he left letting himself in he could see Caianya sitting on the bed with Jessie they were talking quietly together. He was relieved Jessie had survived the change most people who had been poisoned by the hunters nine times didn’t survive.59

Closing the door Stephen took the box which contained the blood into the kitchen. He had to warm it slightly two bags of blood returning to where the girls were he handed each a bag of blood to drink. Caianya drank without any hesitation but Jessie looked at it slightly disgusted and handed it back to Stephen.60

“I can help you drink it if you need some help?” he asked. Jessie nodded; he gave her back the blood, because she had his blood pumping through her veins he was able to command her to drink. Jessie found that she had drunk the whole contents in the bag. She had a coppery taste in her mouth and rushed to the bathroom to brush her teeth and swill her mouth out. Stephen laughed “You two no way would you ever survive on your own.” He laughed out loud then when he saw Caianya’s face he walked toward her pulling her off the chair to stand in front of him Stephen once again kissed her gently on her lips which lasted for a long time but not long enough.61

When Jessie entered into the room she coughed Caianya and Stephen looked around and parted quickly as though they were two kids in the playground who had been caught doing something they shouldn’t have. The look on both their faces Jessie couldn’t help her self she just had to laugh which was contagious. 62
