“Oh, okay. Let’s go inside then.” Shane and I enter the house. I feel the heat hit my skin. It feels good. Shane goes upstairs to put his bags away. He’s staying here for a week. It’ll be like old times when we were younger. I’m in my room when I hear a knock on the door. 1
“Hey.” He says.2
“Hey...” I say quietly. He stands by the door deciding if he should come in. 3
“You can come in you know. I won’t bite.” He laughs and sits down beside me on my bed. 4
“So, how are you?” I think about it. 5
“So-so.” I reply. 6
“Oh, well better then sad I guess.” He says. I look around my room.7
“So, uh, how’s college?” I ask. He lies down on my bed with his hands on his stomach. I move and sit on my bean bag.8
“Uh, it’s alright I guess.” My brows furrows. 9
“Shouldn’t you be glad that you’re on your own?” I say. He considers it, and then nods away.10
“Sure. Why not?” 11
“Your insane, Dude. If I was you I would love it. No parents, don’t have to take crap from people, and its just you. To me, that’s a great life.” He sits up and gives me a look. The one that says you got to be kidding me. 12
“I’m sorry. Am I hearing this from the all mighty Caleb?” He puts his hand by his ear. 13
I throw a paper ball at him. “Ha ha. Very funny, Shane.” He lies back down.14
“You can’t honestly believe that it’s so easy when you leave home for college, Caleb. By the way, there’s always gonna be people who give you crap. Know matter where you go. And sometimes your gonna wish you weren’t alone. Sometimes you’ll even wish that your parents were right by your side. To help you, and to guide you all over again.” I don’t say anything.15
“Ah, isn’t it nice when there’s silence?” I throw another paper ball at him, and the he smiles.16
