The Future

She presses the 'skip' button on her iPod.1

It's on shuffle.  A surprise song will meet her ears while the clouds overhead drift by lazily.  Will it fit her current situation, or will it apply to something in her future?  Can she take the lyrics, mold them to the present, or will they describe moments in her past she'd rather not remember?2

The melancholy tone of Conor Oberst fills her ears, he tells her that if she wants to see the future, she should stare into a cloud.3

Her dark eyes lift upwards to the summer sky, where clouds loom and frighten away the weakening sunlight.  Do they hold her future?  She does not know.  She sees a sailboat, a chicken wing, and a heart.  The sailboat floats off, joining a large cotton ball in the sky.  The chicken wing dissolves, eaten by an unseen carnivore.  The heart splits in two, and she fears that is where her future will go.4

She future is grim, especially with him.  She knows this inside, she knows this outside, too.  The music does not smooth her emotions, however, and she rolls over in the grass.5

Her pallid fingers find the iPod, and she presses the 'skip' button again.6

The future isn't meant to be known.7

interesting... i like the connection between the song and the clouds and omens. short, but to the point and leaves a lot to the reader to relate. good luck!

For some reason, everytime I enter a story, it puts those in after every period.

Thanks for the compliment, by the way!

    Needs some work.

Very intriguing and seems as if it is the a wonderful start for a beautiful story full of intrigue. Unfortunately I am not sure what the  is suppoesed to be, it is very detracting from the story. You might want to change it or take it out completely.

    Beautiful job,
