I didn't want This and now the worldwill pay

Shaun stood, reshaping the old worn out half moon shaped shoe, though it was almost rusted beyond repair. His father had requested that Shaun try to fix its crooked shape again, after their cart horse had thrown it. this was its third time in two weeks that it had come off. Perdy, the poor patchy haired paint it belonged to limped with or wihtout it, and was going blind in one eye.1

Shaun hammered away at it, absently, ignoring the loud clangs and pings the mettal protested with. He wasvthinking of the new man in town. New people weren't uncommon. Nothing about the man was unusuall really. His black travlers cloak wasn't covered in more dust than anyother. His black calve high boots were the style, and were crusted in animal dung like most workers. His red hair caused somewhat of a stir among the ladies, each hoping to win his heart, or at least his fortune. No, there really was nothing remarkable about him.2

Shaun finished with the horse shoe, ot a bit tiered. He was used to such physical labor, and generally enjoyed it. /he even seemed to Excell at this whole black smith thing, never once having burned himself, or anyone else.3

he whiped his rusted hands on his even dirtier apron. and quickely put away all of his tools, pausing to extingwish the fire. he turned at the door, checking one last time to make sure everything was in its place and that there were no embers still glowing in the fire pit. He nodded, satisfied, and closed the door behind him, locking it, with the key he made himself.4

He dropped the key into his homespun pocket, made by his loving sister Lauren.5

A beautiful angel at thirteen, just begining to turn into a woman, she had recently started atracting the eye of many would be suiters. With her long midnight black, straw strait hair always braided in the newest style, and her bright robbin's egg blue eyes laughing at the new attention she was getting, shaun was relieved no one had approached their father. Though Shaun took many too attentive or over bearing men aside and had a quiet word about manly things, like the protection of his sisters virtue. He was not quite ready to part with Lauren.6

On his walk home he avoided walking down the main street. Though faster, lately it held women and girls on the curb of womenhood eying him with renewed intrest. most probably wondering if they still had a chance, downplaying his newely christened Fiance Emily's plainness and silly musings.7

though they thought emily dull, the thought never crossed Shaun's mind. Her woody brown hair didn't appear ordinary to him, and her clover green eyes held a spark of inteligence that intriged him. Her simple clothes and generally barefeet did not denote her in his eyes either. Being poor should not be held against anyone.8

As shaun approched his warm bricked cottage he pbserved an unfamilier horse tethered outside. the palimino was jittery and pawed restlessly at the hard earth beneath it. as Shaun approached it tossed its head carelessly, its eyes rolling back trying to see him. Shaun cooed meaningless words at it, conveying that he meant no harm.9

He entered his house quietly, without knocking, though his mother heard him anyway."Shaun your a bit late," she chidded him, "dinner is almost ready, and we have a guest." shaun nodded his appologies and kissed her cheek. his dear mother, her patchwork apron a comforting homely sight. her bun was a wonderful mess, and there was flower left on her cheek.10

He looked around their kitchen, lingering a moment on the simmering pot bubling over the new stove. his mother followed his gaze. "I know its not much, but it was so sudden, Mr. Collin has taken quite an intrest in our Lauren." she looked down, moisture gathering at the corner of her eyes. "He seems quite taken with her. He's in the study with Your father right now." she paused brokenly, "they, their disscussing Laurens future" shaun brought her into a hug. his arms fitting easily around her fragil shoulders. "what does Lauren say?" shaun asked in his even low voice. questioning his fathers sanity, and his sisters loyalty.11

Just then Lauren came in carrying an arm full of blubells, their color complementing her eyes. her eyes that were not as bright as one might expect when maraige was being proposed, shaun observed.12

Shaun waited till Lauren had put the blooms in a light blue vase, mothers favorite. He waited patiently while mother fussed over Luarens hair, and fiddled with her dress. when she finally met his eyes he grasped her hand gently, "sister will you walk with me?" he kindly ignored his mothers too week protests, assuring her that they'd be back in time for dinner. He ushered his sister out the door.13

"Lauren who is this man?" he asked with fake calm. he listened patiently, noting every fearful expression and panicked flicker of her troubled eyes. it became apparent as she gushed on that this was the man Shuan had himself been thinking of earlier.14

As their walk angeld back twords the house Lauren looked up at her big brother frantickly, "I don't love him" her eyes not meating his."I don't even like him." she said quieter. "He, He scares me." she stuttered out, finally meeting his eyes. Shaun put an arm around her, noting how frail her little frame really was. "we'll work this out, father won't marry you off without your consent." shaun assured her, though as they walked through the door mothers tear streaked face and tightly clasped hands said otherwise.15

The Mr. collins didn't even look at Lauren as father proclaimed the exciting news that Lauren would be Mrs. Collins in a months time! Shaun asked his father, angrilly, had he not talked to Lauren first?16

"I know whats beest for this family!" he shouted verry uncaricteristicly, father had never raised his voice one, in shaun's whole life.17

Lauren spoke up suddenly "Father please I dont wish to do this." shaun looked down at his now shaking little sister. no. this man would not have her. Mr. Collins eyes sparkled, a strange metalic black, an unspoken chalenge easliy rad in them. "Father I wont allow this to happen." shaun spoke up, trying to hide his rage. "you can not pick a husband against her will." he proclaimed18

Mr collins pulled Lauren from Shauns arms easily, twirling her into his own arms. "'tiss already done. She is mine." it seemed an animal looked out through his eyes.19

shaun lunged angrily at him. tearing his sister out of his arms, suddenly enraged beyond rational though, as this man put his hands on his sister. How dare he!20

shaun roared and swung his closed fist at him. Mr Collins pulled out a sword, and mother stepped in between the men. "now this is unnessasary. surely..." she looked between the two helplessly.21

Mr collins thrust his sword through mothers stomach, his dark eyes tinted red, a wolfish grin showing too sharp teath. shaun shoved his sister out the door. "Run Lauren!" he screamed, frantickly trying to think of a way to save everyone.22

Mr. collins pulled the sword out of mother, and she whilted, screaming in pain, still alive. he swung with the hilt of his sword and knocked father out carelessly, "do you still wish tio chalenge me?" he cooed. shauns body screamed run! but he stood his ground.
