The World according To Draco Malfoy - Chapter One

~~~~~2
Draco Malfoy grew up in a loving family. It was a strict upbringing but one filled with love for the son of Lucius and Narcissa and heir to the Malfoy fortune. Oh, his father was often busy with other things and could not spare as much time for him as he he would have liked, and his mother tended to oversmother him and indulge his whims overmuch. But none of these things are sins or experiences many other children don't face. There was one difference in his family life from yours, Reader, but we shall get to that soon enough.3
When Draco was very young, his family had been in some trouble. His father, Lucius, had been a member of a group which disapproved of non-magicals and their polluting of the magical bloodline and heritage. When this group inexplicably fell apart due to the equally inexplicable death of its leader, the Malfoys were plunged into some straits as the present government had disapproved of the group and its ways. It all got sorted out eventually, however, and Draco was far too young to remember it when he grew older.4
Now, Draco loved flying. His father had gotten him a training broom at a very young age and, due to the high position of the Malfoy family, had been able to get certain limitations on underage riding waived when Draco had shown a talent. Draco would go flying whenever he had time, time which grew less and less as he got older, filled with tutors and social calls.5
Now, dear reader, we shall get to the difference. The Malfoys, being very well connected, often had parties and get-togethers with other well-to-do families. Most of these families had also belonged to the controversial group we spoke of earlier. At these gatherings, the families would get together and rage about how the magical heritage of their world was being corrupted by muggles and their nefarious influences. Draco and the other children were encouraged to listen and learn from a very young age and, thus, Draco grew up with values that were not espoused by the local government and many readers would disapprove of.6
His parents and their friends would outline very clearly the dissipation of magic as more and more people of a non-magical background had entered the magical world. They would point to fewer and fewer high power spells being taught in the schools so as to cater to the lesser power of these people. They would complain about the erosion of culture as muggles brought in their own entertainments and values. It was all very logical. And Draco, like many other children of his station, found himself agreeing with the inescapable logic of it all.7
And so Draco grew, learning from highly expensive tutors, listening to his parents politics, and flying on his broom whenever possible. It was a charmed life, largely. An overprotected and isolated one certainly but thus is every child's life to a certain degree. And every child must one day enter the outside world, one that may not agree with the teachings the child has been brought up with. And thus it was that Draco entered Hogwarts.
