Crazy Old Rosie!

Rosie felt exhausted after a long hard days work of gardening, bridge with the 1

Ladies and a brisk walk after a scrumptious dinner with the lover Sylvester.2

Rosie was ninety-six years young and still going strong. She attended church and visited3

The sick and shut-ins from her family church on a regular basis. She took care of herself,4

Did her own cooking, cleaning and laundering plus, she volunteered at her local library on the weekends. Rosie had the perfect life with great health and vitality for her age. What more could she ask for except some peace and quiet after a long day and a good nights sleep which she hardly got due to the noisy neighborhood she lived in. 5

There was the constant barking of dogs, teenagers running amok cussing and screaming at each other, music blasting, unusual activities from the neighbors house across the street. She thought she saw a few shifty characters from time to time and knew that something strange was going on in that house but, she minded her own business and kept her mouth shut.6

But tonight Rosie needed a goodnights sleep and she was determined to get it one way or another. It was two o’clock in the morning and she had a busy schedule to accomplish at the crack of dawn. How was she supposed to sleep under those conditions? Something had to be done, it was wrecking her nerves and poor Rosie couldn’t take much more of it.7

So Rosie did the only thing she could think of, she bought herself a shotgun and in the middle of the night, while chaos and disorder broke loose all around her, Rosie got out of her bed, put on her night slippers and her robe, picked up her shotgun then proceeded to walk calmly and quietly outside with her shotgun in her hands. 8

‘Quiet! She began to scream with her tiny voice, I want quiet in my neighborhood she yelled as she fired off six rounds into the air.9

‘Can't an old woman get some sleep around here she’? exclaimed'.10

It was a sight never before seen, but it worked. People screamed and ran for cover convinced that the old lady had finally lost her marbles.11

‘Look at that crazy old woman they yelled, she should be in a home, she’s lost he mind’ they all screamed. ‘She’s shooting up the neighborhood and screaming she wants peace and quiet. 12

After firing off her six rounds, Rosie walked back to her apartment, reloaded her gun and placed it near her bedside. She removed her slipper and disrobed and tucked her tired old body back into bed.  It was the first time in a very long time that Rosie slept so peacefully and calmly. 13

This is my neighborhood too she thought and I’ll do whatever I have to do to get a good nights sleep. As a matter of face, the neighborhood grew strangely quiet after Rosie’s outburst. She was labeled as a crazy old lady with the shotgun. Mothers warned their children to stay away from her house and even the dogs refused to bark at night and the teenager, well they found another neighborhood to hang out. They weren’t willing to take the chance with that crazy old woman and her shotgun.14

Tomorrow of course is another day and Rosie will once again rise with the sun, but this time around she’ll be completely rested and ready to take on the world once more. 15

Thank you Ms Diamond 'Shut-ins' now I would have never worked that out. Now you have me wondering what insiders call doing that here is. (It’s probably more fine tuned then community service)

Shut-Ins are members of the church who are ill or physically disabled and can't make it to church on Sunday, other members of the church like our friend Rosie would visit these people and pray with them offering them comfort, maybe flowers or just simply talking to them and enjoying the day. Thanks for the applause Wattle, I'm always happy to help out a foreigner. Avril

Ms Diamond, I do like a good story, when well told, and you have told this well. So much so that I'm quite sure you have older bones then I thought, and I never did figure you for a gun totter. I’ll be quiet to, just in case. One question (for the foreign man); what is a ‘shut-in’ (‘shut-ins from her family church’) - I’ve heard of love-ins but I’m sure none were at our local church.

Thank you Ms Diamond (you sparkle).
