Exchange Student.1
“Where is he?” came an exasperated voice. I’d heard them running after me earlier. They had shouted me and I could tell by their tone of voice that they weren’t going to ask me for a friendly game of “footie.” Their evil stares at me in the classroom told me that they didn’t like me being there. I had realised the first day I had arrived in this backward little town that I wasn’t welcome. Even the adults seemed to dislike me. They hadn’t disliked any of my friends. Quite the opposite actually, they had all received quite a warm welcome. I, on the other had received the cold shoulder from them all. The only time I felt safe was back at the “Exchange house” with my friends. I really didn’t feel safe here. 2
I snapped back to realise that they had noticed me hidden there. I stood up and slowly backed off. They were looking at me as if this was their favourite sport. I darted between them before they had time to realise what had happened. I ran as hard as I could, they gave chase and it wasn’t long before they started to catch up with me. In the distance I could see the “Exchange house”. I was gearing up to try and boost my speed, but my legs were about to give in and my lungs felt like they were going to explode. I was nearly there when suddenly more of them jumped out. I turned to try run but they were already there blocking my way back. I was surrounded, and had no where to go. 3
“So… Jack we finally get to meet you close up” One of them said nastily. I wasn’t going to let them scare me. I stood my ground and coolly replied “Yeah so…?” This seemed to annoy them, I could see it in their eyes, “What do you mean, Yeah so…. Don’t get smart with us, if you haven’t noticed there are quite a few more of us than there are of you!” The one that said this seemed to be their ringleader. I turned to him and said in my most sarcastic voice, “Oh how brave of you, you’re going to try beat me up with all you’re little sheep here.” I indicated the fairly large group that had chased me earlier. They all seemed extremely agitated by this comment.4
Angrily they began to close in on me, I stared at them defiantly, and I thought that if I could get through this then they might leave me alone. Just then from behind the crowd, a siren sounded, “Ok what’s this… Break it up.” I saw it was the chief of police. He saw it was me and grabbed me by the collar “Right all of you kids go on home.” They all dawdled and the chief got mad at them. “NOW!” he yelled. “One by one they walked off, a few of them giving me sly kicks and elbows to the stomach, And murmuring stuff like you’re not welcome here. When the crowd had dispersed the chief turned to me. “Now young man… what the hell do you think you’re doing causing a riot like this!” he yelled. I stared at him angrily I felt as if I would explode with rage any second. I opened my mouth and was about to yell at him when Mrs Brae ran out of the “Exchange house.” “Jack where have you been?” she said as if she had been expecting me for some time. “Erm…” was all I managed to get out of my mouth before she said “Oh well come on… Thank you for bringing him home chief.” She pulled me inside and turned to the puzzled man, simply said “goodnight” and closed the door. 5
“I really don’t know what is up with those kids; they have never done this before to anyone.” I simply stared blankly at her and walked away without saying a word. “Jack is that all you’re going to do?” she said behind me. I turned to her and shrugged. I had had enough of this town and the weird people that belonged to it. Why did I ever agree to come on this exchange student thing? I’d of been better staying at home in England, But no I had to come to this crummy little town in America. I was Fed up. Even my friends were beginning to grow distant from me. I was feeling so alone.6
There was something odd about this town though. It was as if they all had something to hide. But they had no problems with anyone except me. 7
I was running suddenly through the forest. The shadows were terrifying and I remember a Full moon. Huge black figures were coming towards me and I couldn’t take in another step. I was hidden behind a tree when suddenly…. I awoke with a start, my body was in a cold sweat and I didn’t really understand where I was. My eyes felt like they were burning, and my throat was dry. A dream that’s all it was… or was it a dream. It seemed almost real no matter how much I told myself it can’t be. I could remember everything as if it had really happened the sights the sounds. I was unaware that everyone else had noticed me awake. “Go back to sleep there’s nothing to see.” I growled at them angrily. I was tired of people staring at me. I rolled over and closed my eyes. But behind my back I could hear them mumbling between themselves, I have never felt so alone in my life.8
It must have been at least Five o’clock when I came around again. I couldn’t sleep so I went and got a drink. There was a voice, whispering to me. It was so mysterious and ominous, as if it wasn’t there, but it knew I was. I didn’t know what it was saying. It became louder and louder, I heard its voice, deep and powerful, yet soft and haunting. It was whispering something, I didn’t know what it was until the haunting realisation of the voice hit me. “They’re watching you” it whispered growing louder and louder each verse. It repeated itself, on and on until it echoed throughout the kitchen and into the shadowy halls. I stood in front of the huge hall mirror and looked deep into my deep green eyes. I tried my hardest to block out the voice that was now louder in my ears than an Aeroplane taking off. I yelled for it to leave me alone, the voice scared me, it wasn’t going anywhere.9
I had to get away, I ran up into my bedroom but still it followed me. I ran into the room, the voice still close behind me. I woke everyone in the room up. I heard them shouting at me, when all of a sudden one said, “What The hell is that!?” I didn’t answer them; I was panicking now thinking only of escaping that deep haunting voice. As I threw on some clothes they were all exchanging worried glances with each other.10
I ran out leaving them behind, the voice was following me. I could hear its ominous voice; it made my blood run cold. I ran into the huge entrance hall throwing open the old ornate double doors. I heard Mrs Brae yelling my name behind me but all I was thinking was I have to get away. I ran and ran, deeper into the heavy undergrowth of the forest until there it was. 11
I stared in Awe as I saw the huge white full moon above the lake. It took my breath away and the thought of the haunting voice. It didn’t last. I saw them, the shadows, the ones from… my dream. I wasn’t dreaming now.12
I froze in panic. Had they seen me? No they can’t of they would have got me already I was stood Silent. The cold air made my breath visible as I gasped for breaths. From behind me a warm hand touched my shoulder, Jack what’s up? I turned around wondering who… or what I was going to find there. Naomi… “What are you doing here”… From the bushes came an exasperated Rob and Harry closely followed by Omar “what are you doing Ja…” They’re long pause needed no explanation, I could feel its hot breath on my neck and its eerie gaze locked onto me. I turned as slow as possible, its bright yellow eyes met mine, and I could smell its foul breath. Its long black snout was furled as its twisted mouth began to form evil sounding words. “We’ve been expecting you….”13
With all the strength I could find I lashed out pushing it out of the way, “RUN” I yelled as my terrified friends began to put two and two together. They’re expressions turned to shock as several emerged suddenly around us. There was no where to go except toward the Lake. We ran as fast as we could but stopped as the lake emerged suddenly beneath us. We were trapped.14
“Got you.” They said. My friends we’re scared and panicking, and asking me what we should do. I continued to stare into the lake. My green eyes staring back. “They’re going to attack any second Jack” Naomi told me.15
“I know they are, but you have no reason to worry, it’s me they want.” My voice was abnormally calm to them. They’re attack pattern did not appear to phase me in the least. My calmness stopped them from panicking. They turned and watched me. 16
“Bloody Werewolves…” I turned to see them, they’re twisted grins told me they knew about me already. I had no problem in showing them all now they’re true forms had been revealed. They had left me no option anyway. I turned away and looked into the lake. “So they want to hunt do they, and this is a game to them…” My eyes turned Blue and my hair changed from light brown to Deep Blue too. I pushed myself off the ground and floated in mid-air. “You werewolves want a game…?” I stared deep into the eyes of the Leader of their ‘pack’, “you want to Hunt me and my friends for a game” My mind sent a huge ball of energy into the lead Werewolf and several others, immediately incinerating them. They’re twisted grins soon turned to terror, they’re hyena like laughs were soon screams of agony, they scattered like Rats. I frowned and moved forward…“Then Let the Games Begin.”17
