The Incident1

Senior Advanced Biology Class of Adams High*3

"Class, listen up!" announced Ms Kappela**. "Since all of you did so well on last chapter's test, we will be taking a field trip! Well, kind of. We will be using ShapeShifter VR to study some oceanic organisms! How does that sound? We'll meet at 5:00 tonight at the water area. And don't tell me you don't own ShapeShifter VR, because I already made sure each of you do."4

Ok, what a nice intro for our Advanced Bio teacher, Ms. Alyssa Kappela1. She's a bit odd, but anyway...5

Time for a quick intro. It is the year 2100, and a certain virtual reality game has really piqued a lot of interest: ShapeShifter VR. In this 99.9% real-feeling game, you feel, smell, and even taste everything as if it is real life. Wondering why it is called ShapeShifter? That is because in this game, you can become any animal you want, and you can become a different person if the user gives you a privacy password they set when they first join, as well as put your username in a list of people who can use their body.6

In ShapeShifter, there are 6 "Sections": Nature, Life, History, Fantasy, Fighting, and XXX (the "Adults Only" section). Each Section has several "Areas" in them; for example, the Nature Section has 5 areas in it: Fire, a desert; Water, an endless ocean with several islands in it; Earth, a mountain; Air, several giant platforms high up in the air; and Space, for when you REALLY need some... well... space. Ok, back to the story.7

My girlfriend and I planned a date, and to make it interesting, we decided to switch places. What we didn't know is how long we would end up staying that way...8

Penelope, my girlfriend, and I (in each other's bodies) had just finished our date. The reason: it was time to head to the water area for the "field trip." What a drag, but oh well, might as well. And so, destiny (and the fact we were supposed to be there) pulled us along to the water area. I have to admit, it was quite beautiful. Gleaming water, fire-red sunset, the whole nine yards.10

We got there before the rest of our class. The "there" in question happened to be on a boat. Penelope and I sat there and gazed at the water as the rest of the class slowly popped in. Penelope gazed deep into my eyes and said...11

"It really is very odd to see my face looking back at me and not from a mirror either."12

"Yep, agreed."13

We eventually saw Becky enter. Becky is the type of girl who stands up for her friends (and TO teachers), and she just so happens to be Penelope's best friend. "Hey, Becky," called Penelope (from MY body).14

"Hey, Tyson," replied Becky.15

"Hehe, who said I'm Tyson?" inquired Penelope.16

"Ah, Penelope, that gets old, you know. VERY old. Why do you guys like to go out on dates in each other's bodies?"17

"It's interesting to feel what it is like to be the opposite sex. Besides, this brings us closer together somehow."18

Well, finally, eventually, everyone managed to make it. Of course, by that time it was already 5:30, well past the 5:00 that was originally intended.19

"Well, students, you already know why we are here. We are here to examine the everyday life of some of the creatures of the sea. Now, if everyone would please look at the water," said Ms. Kappela. We obediently looked, and saw manta rays. 20

And that exact second is when everything, including our entire lives, went screwy.21

Out of nowhere stepped a silver man with no face in a white lab coat. "How about a little... social experiment?" asked the mysterious man, who was a little too obviously a hacker. The sound came from a black spot on his face which opened and shaped itself into a mouth as he spoke. After that, his body became static, and the static spread from him like a plague, swallowing everything around him except the people, and eventually, one-by-one, them too.22

Back In the Real World23

I was forced awake from the sleep that ShapeShifter places you into. I took off the headset, and I said to myself, "WHAT THE HELL!?" After saying that, I was taken aback by the girlish voice with which I said it. Looking down at the covers that were on top of me, I realized they weren't mine. I then got out of bed, looked around, and realized I was in Penelope's room.24

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I screamed as I realized what had happened: I was now stuck in Penelope's body.

This is my first story. Don't worry, it will get better. Probably.
