Unusual Friendships

She was hurrying down the supposedly empty corridor when she heard a low drawling voice.4

"Well well if it isn't a Weasley." Ginny looked up from the chest and shoulders that were blocking her way. Draco Malfoy. It was Draco Malfoy, the boy her brother was enemies with.5

Her mind hurriedly ran through possibilities. She wasn't like Ron who gave as good as he got, or like the twins who laughed everything off and nothing touched them. No, Ginny was shy, painfully shy, but she knew if she showed it she was dead. So, she did the only thing she could do.6

She took a deep breath, looked him in the eye, and held out her hand, "Ginerva Molly Weasley." Draco looked at her hand for a second before reaching for it and clasping it, "Draconis Edwards Malfoy." A small smile played upon his lips, more smirk than smile but still almost not even there, "You better get to class."7

Ginny nodded and scurried off, relieved and somewhat satisfied. She would have something for her diary tonight.8

"So, it's agreed then, we tell no one about the marriage." They both nodded "Pansy, I don't want to end up like our parents," Draco confessed. "I mean, mother and father spent absolutely no time together. It's like they're these two individual people, who happen to co-inhabit the same living space. They don't even talk to each other."10

Pansy sighed, "I know what you mean. At least yours are somewhat civil. Mine hate each other and make no pretenses. They -" She broke off looking into the empty hall they were tucked in talking behind a statue.11

Draco followed her gaze to the little first year scurrying along. He knew Pansy was thinking, "What if she sees us? She'll talk."12

"I'll handle it." Draco whispered and stepped out into the hall.13

"Well well, if it isn't a Weasley." He smirked at the tiny spectacle before him, all red hair and trembles. She was obviously afraid of him, most likely from the tales she had heard from her weasel brother and his pathetic band of seething nobility, that he was suitably taken aback when she met his eyes and stuck out her hand.14

He stared at it for a moment like it was a snake before blinking it back. His mind examined this girl quickly and came to a decision.15

"Draconis Edwards Malfoy. You should get to class."16

The-'Ginerva,' Draco reminded himself. looked relieved and hurried off and Draco melted back into the shadows to find a very amused Pansy regarding him. "What?".17

"Draconis Edwards Malfoy," Pansy mimed. "She's going to spread that little tidbit all over the school. You'll be the laughing stock for days."18

"She wont tell." Draco smirked confidently. "Besides, I like the girl. She has spunk." Draco smile wavered as he added under his breath "even if she is a Gryffindor".19

Pansy's amused smile haunted him all the way to class.
