In Love with a Monster

The sun glowed on the trees, leaving a golden look on the rigid bark. The colors of the rainbow dances as a blue bird flew above head. I smiled as I began to take a walk in the woods. There was a rustle in the leaves that fell from the demand of the cold winter air, but two seasons had passed and now it was summer. Still, the leaves had not decayed. There was a small mouse, walking like she was on the runway. I crossed my arms as a slightly larger chipmunk walked in front of my path, then stopping. It looked like it was ready to pounce, taking down to mouse. I knew chipmunks didn't tack little show white mice, but I rescued it anyways, placing it in an abandoned bird's nest that fell to the ground.1

"There you go, little guy" I said, bending back upward so my backpack wouldn't topple over my head.2

My food was scarce, and I was not ready to live out in the New Jersey Pine Barrens alone, only if it was for a day. I looked all around for the big footprints that an unknown animal supposedly left behind during it's hunt for flesh. There was a noise, big and scary coming from the woods behind me. I jumped ten feet high, leaving a dust cloud around me. It rose up, up. I looked at where the noise had came from. It was just a deer, for now.3

I saw a smallish cave in a large rock, sitting in a clearing. I crawled into it. Darkness filled my eyes, leaving me nothing to see. I looked all around and reached into my bag, grabbing out a match. The match lit the cave, letting me see the rigid walls. I dug through the bag yet again and I took out some food. A sub for me, and a frozen steak for the devil. 4

I paced the steak outside of the cave and tied a thin rope to it, then I crawled into the cave and knotted it around my ring finger. I then began to nod off to a sleep, dreaming about the prize, the fame, the new life I would have if Lucifer Jr. came to me. 5

I woke up about one hundred feet above the ground, clenched in something's teeth. Some blood ran down my leg. I looked up at what happened to be holding me, high in the cold fall air. There it was, waving it's deep red wings in the thick air, which seemed to have been snowing now. I opened my mouth when it swooped down to a temple of trees, fallen.6

"PUT ME DOWN!" I yelled, punching the rock solid creature.7

There seemed to be a grumble, then the creature landed in a small nook. It put me down on a pillow. A pillow? Why was there a pillow on a log in the middle of nowhere?8

"Why'd you yell at me?" The New Jersey Devil asked me.9

"What did you say?" I asked, astonished.10

"Oh my God, why did you yell at me like that?" He repeated.11

"I knew what you said. I thought you..." I trailed off.12

"Oh, yes. This happens with EVERYONE! 'Why did you take me here...' 'Don't eat me...' It's always the same." It said.13

"I'm sorry if I offended you..." I said, looking at my leg.14

"I'm Seth. And you are?" He, I hope it was a he, asked.15

"Lola. I'm Lola Green." I said, putting out my left hand.16

"I'd rather not." Seth said to me. 17

"Oh, I see." I said as I put it back down to my side.18

"So, what are you doing here?" He asked me.19

"I was, trying to hunt for you." I answered as truthfully as I could.20

"That's what they ll say," he said back to me. "I was hoping for an 'I'm exitied to see my ex-best friend." He told me.21

What did he mean? Was I going crazy? I was talking tho the New Jersey Devil, who claimed to be my best friends from fifth grade Seth. He had disappeared one day, everyone said... Said he died from a... From a man named Fredrick Simon, the most wanted man in Jersey in 2005. 22

"I know all about you. Your favorite color is blue, you used to have bright red hair, you are a straight A student, your birthday is July twenty-sixth, your favorite animal is the monkey, you love-" That was enugh for me.23

"You're scaring me now." I said as there was a shooting light from one of the cracks in the log.24

"Dang, they're here." He said.25

I looked over to the blinding red light and looked at Seth's frightened face. He looked like he couldn't handle the police. He'd been shot at for... Then it clicked. He'd only been the New Jersey Devil for four years now... He didn't know how to handle the police. And Officer Forman, he can shoot. He's on TV all the time for the most experienced police man in all of the USA. Yeah right, he never came when I called about hearing Seth on my roof. Such a stupid choice. 26

"Seth Decker, put your hands up." So they knew!27

I hurried the worried Devil out of the hallow log and hid him in the trees. I dared my self, then I stepped out.28

"Oh, Officer Forman! Funny seeing you here!" I said.29

"Lola green, what ARE you doing here!" He said like mom does when she sees me in the oddest places; The pool in the winter, the ocean in the fall, the ski slopes in the summer, the leave pick up in the spring, and so on. 30

"Oh, I'm so sorry. Is this a crime scene? I then must be going." I said to the now puzzled officer.31

"Well then, if that's what you are having to... Hey! Why is your leg bleeding?" He asked me.32

"I was running from a bear and tripped on a thorn bush," was my best answer.33

"Alright then. Why were you here?" He asked me.34

"I was looking for some berries to pick for Aunt Sally," I told him.35

It was true, kind of. I had told my Great Aunt Sally that I was going to pick some big black berries or her black berry pancakes with my fried Hannah. Hannah backed out of searching for the now known as Seth Devil because she had to go to Mass. Then I had caught up with my best friend Seth! Yeah...36

"Alright, you're free to go," I began to walk away. "Boys, I think that call from Miss Dina was just a bird with a large worm flying overhead. She's going to be happy to hear that i handled everything an killed Seth." He said.37

He was la lyer. I knew it. He could never be trusted with a job like this.38

"And young Miss." He said to me, running over. "F' you see the New Jersey Devil anywhere around here, just call." He said, treating me like a two-year-old.39

"Okay, Officer Forman." I said.40

"Just call me David." He said as he turned away.41

He wasn't much older then me, single and handsome. He was twenty, I think. But he never finished collage, and he is too stuck up for me. Unlike Seth was. When we were younger, I wanted to marry him.42

I trotted back over to him to see how he was doing. he looked like he was proud of me, for sticking up for him like we used to do with each other. 43

"Lola, thank you so much!" He said, hugging me.44

"I can't breathe!" I struggled out of his grasp.45

"What can I do to repay you?" He asked as I began to tug him out to Aunt Sally's house.46

"Just keep quiet until I can find a safer habitat for you." I told him.47

I tugged hum over to me, then I hugged him back. My head fluttered with happines. Oh my God, I'm in love with the New Jersey Devil. 48

This was a little rushed, but aside from that it was a good story. You could add a little more description to make it more interesting, though. Well done!

It was a bit rushed and I think a little imagery would have done wonders to it. Other than that, very creative and just a tiny bit confusing. Good job, keep working at it!

I liked your storyline, but you should watch out for spelling mistakes and such. Otherwise keep writing!

  • Mildly entertaining and a very random story. I found this confusing to follow and more than a little choppy. Imaginative, yes - but it doesn't make it good. Lots of spelling errors also served to frustrate.

Thank you for your entry in ALMOST ANYTHING GOES... if you're 16 or younger and best of luck with your future writing endeavours.

  • WOW

As a lot of people have said, this story was very creative, and original. I especially like how real Seth is.
There were some errors, but other than that, it was a very good story.
Thanks for the entry and good luck
