The Horror of Our Love: Chapter One; Killer's Point of View

I could smell them before I heard them. They gave off of the delicious smell of life. The fragrance was much like the mix of blood and chocolate. My fingers were itching to be around their necks as I would feel their luscious heartbeat slow down until it was silent. I would sink into them, enjoying every last drop of their bodies until they were nothing but a hollow shell. My muscles tensed as I readied myself to pounce on them and begin my attack. Grinding my teeth together, I kept myself against the wall.1

The time would come.2

Their worlds came jumbled and hushed, as if they thought that could keep me from hearing them. The one voice was ragged and deep, having a roughness to it, though that couldn’t disguise the fear in it. But the other one- it was the one I wanted. Her voice was light and airy, though panic was tearing through it like a knife. I smirked to myself as I held myself back, once again, from ripping her apart. She was terrified of me. She was falling into my trap.3

She was mine.4

Their movements were short and awkward as they walked down the street. They knew that I was around, but couldn’t be sure about my exact location. The man held a cross in his quivering hands. Although I could feel that heat coming off of it, it would not be a problem. The excitement was welling up from inside me and threatened to burst out. I crouched in the shadows of the stone building. My legs tensed up as they readied themselves to send me propelling across onto the man. 5

I looked at him carefully, tilting my head so that the angle that the streetlight hit him in the perfect way. He was a tall, large man, dwarfing me by a few good inches and outweighing me by countless stones. The man would be a bit of a challenge for me, but it was nothing that I couldn’t handle. The light reflected off of his greasy, black curls. A drop of sweat would occasionally roll down his temple, streaming down his face until it reached his chin. His dull, brown eyes were glazed over with fear. I was the predator, and he was the prey.6

I pushed off.7

It seemed like a split second to the humans, but I moved in slow motion as I readied myself. My hands were outstretched, claws extending for penetrating the neck. The smile that I had was horrifying and it would most likely shock the man into a heart attack. My feet left the ground and I was going through the air, finally showing myself to humans for less than a second. My arch was perfect and I landed on him. A sickening crunched echoed through the air as the force combined with my weight pinned him onto the ground. My hands and feet were pinned on his burly arms and legs. He looked at me with a terrified expression as the girl screamed.8

I laughed.9

My feet pressed down hard into his legs, breaking them simultaneously. He cried out in pain and the woman screamed louder. I would have to get rid of him soon so I could take care of her. All of Russia would know that something wasn’t right if I took my time. I placed my one hand on his chest. His heart beat fast and strong. I smiled softly and looked up at him. He was crying with pain, large tears gently sloping down his face. He knew that it was over. I raised my arm into the air, making my fingers jagged, and pushed straight down.10

His heart beat once in my hand before it stopped.11

The man was spewing blood like a fountain. The smell was extremely alluring and it took all of my strength to keep away from the corpse and turn my attention to the young woman. She was terrified, her light blue eyes widened. The caramel curls that surrounded her heart shape face fluttered slightly in the wind. She was petite in size, an easy target for me to take down. I stepped forward a few steps, letting her stumble backwards in horror.12

“You are not who you said you were,” her voice came again. Her thick, Russian accent was heaven to me. The sound of betrayal was hard in her voice. I gave a smile to her.13

It was hard to resist me at first. I was a tall and handsome creature with dark brown hair, light blue eyes, and a well-defined face and body. I seemed to be irresistible to all of the human females. They flock to me, giggle helplessly, and ask questions that hint that they desire me. It’s actually sickening to some extent, especially when a young woman flings herself at you. However, every once in a blue moon, someone manages to catch my eye. They admire my wealth and charm, yet they aren’t over flirtatious.14

But most of all, their blood is the most attractive of all.15

I neared her, my throat dying for the familiar, sticky and sweet liquid to drip down it. I was craving it. A growl rose up out of me, causing her to shriek as I crept forward. Like lightning, I immediately reacted to the sudden sound by rushing forward and closing the distance between us and I ran behind her. I held her by the shoulders, the sudden gasp coming from her small body amusing me.16

“I am nothing,” I whispered in her ear. “That you needed to know about.”17

She shuddered slightly in fear as I spoke to her. The sudden response triggered my thirst to grown. I brushed the hair away from her neck as she squirmed uselessly against my hard grip. The terror was rising in her as the delectable sound of her heart beating grew faster.18

She pleaded between her sobs, “Please, don’t do this to me!”19

“Don’t worry, my darling. This will all be over before you know it.”20

The young woman was shaking now, her hair falling back onto her shoulder. An annoyance burned inside me. I slapped it away, hitting her pale skin along with it. She sucked in a breath, trying not to make any more noise than there needed to be. I opened my mouth slightly, teeth resting on her flesh. She was muttering some sort of a Catholic prayer underneath her breath.21

My fangs touched her shoulder and I bit down.22

The immediate response was relief and hunger at the same time. My bloodlust hadn’t died down at all. In fact, it had gotten stronger when her blood came in contact with my tongue. I lost control. My mind seemed to kick into animal mode as I ravenously sucked her blood out of her body. The girl screamed as the venom pumped through her. I was a creature who most didn’t suspect when the saw me. Minutes flew by like seconds until I was through. Her ghost-white body dropped lifelessly, almost wanting to fall directly into my arms. I turned though, letting her drop to the group with a sickening thud. My Russian Rose was already dead; so why bother?23

One last chuckle managed to come out from me as I ran down the street at a speed that no human could see. Russia was becoming a bore to me. Another place had caught my attention from doing research and watching the news.24

I was bound for America. 25
