Raeyne Rider

Shari sighed uncomfortably and crossed her arms around her torso. Should she tell him that she could hear every vile and repulsive thought he was thinking right now? Hell, he probably had no idea who she really was anyway. 1

Shari knew why he was here, and who he was... Prince Junakae, one of the strongest (and most handsome) known to people like him other who were familiar with that world, the immortal world. But that's beside that point. He was handsome, and he was a ladies man- anyone who was anyone in this mysterious world could tell you that.
Shari knew that he was hiding wings as well within that long cloak of his... he was hiding them well too. However, she knew more about him than he probably felt it comfortable her knowing.2

"So..." whispered Junakae, "Tell me, how old are you?"3

Shari turned to glare daggers at the self centered being and answered curtly, "19, what's it to you?"4

He smiled and shook his head. "Oh, nothing, nothing at all."5

Shari continued glaring at him, arms crossed. She was standing here, on a street corner; with a complete stranger who she was suppose to spend the rest of her life with... HA! Some idea. The guy didn't even like her. Well, not in the ways that she needed. The last thing in the world she wanted was a guy who felt she could fill all of his personal needs both mentally and between the sheets.6

"By the way," he said in his deep seductive tone that she refused to let get to her head, "I am Junakae."7

Shari sighed and rolled her eyes, finally looking away. "I know who you are, and you know who I am, so let's just leave it at that, okay? No need for the stupid introductions."8

Shari watched as he smiled and slightly shook his beautiful head. "Are you always such a bitch?"9

She slightly chuckled at the gall of his remark. He wasn’t the first to ask that, but what made him think that he could ask her questions like that? At least everyone else actually had the decency to actually get to know her first.10

"No, just to men who think women are play toys and nothing more. So tell me... Junakae," she said with sarcastic force on his name, "Why exactly are we standing here like idiots, in the dark, doing nothing but talk when neither of us really want to talk anyway?"11

Shari watched as he lifted a hand and ran it through his shaggy brown hair gracefully, making it stand straight up for a good three seconds before giving in gracefully to gravity and falling back down upon his perfect head.12

"We are here because fate asks of it," he muttered seriously with a tad bit of disappointment.13

Shari let out a small snort. "Fate? Is it really fate, or is it the people you know who think they control fate?"14

Shari watched and listened as he too pondered this question. She was slightly amused as a small frown line furrowed between his eyes.15

"You know,” he finally answered, “I'm really not too sure."16

Shari dropped her arms and sighed again. "Well, while we are trying to talk to each other, can we go somewhere else besides this little sidewalk? I am a tad bit afraid of the dark, and it's getting a tad bit chilly." Even as she said this, she could feel a cold chill run down her back. It wasn’t from the cold either, and that meant only one thing…17

Junakae laughed silently to himself. Shari didn't miss his thought... 'This is supposed to be my soul mate? She is nothing like me, has no good qualities for my own pleasure, and she can't stand the cold or the dark... how will she ever be able to live with me in my world?'18

Shari laughed and shook her head. Was he really that stupid, or just left totally out of the blue? "I'm not too sure how I will live myself. Maybe the same way I have been doing it for the last 6 years? Do you think maybe that might work?"19

He looked at her as if he were stupid and said, "You have not been living- wait a minute." Shock finally registered on his face. He was silent, mouth slightly gapped open so as to produce some word before doing so. "I didn’t say that out loud, did I?"20

Shari smiled. "Man, you're awesome and all powerful people really left you out of the loop, didn't they?"21

He was still looking at her as if he were just hit upside the head with a two ton weight.22

"Hmm... Let me guess. They told you I was the Raeyne Rider, and that I was destined for great things, so I am just the perfect match for you, right? I mean, since you have already done a lot of great things yourself, being the all powerful and great vampire slayer or whatever you are. But, I bet they didn't tell you that I can read minds, that I have been the Raeyne Rider since I was 13, and that I am in possession of something so powerful, that I can either save the immortal world as you and I both know it used to be, or finish completely destroying what of it there is left."23

Yeah, he was pretty much frozen with shock by that time.24

"Do me a favor... 'Soul mate.' Put your wings to use and get us the hell out of here. I have a feeling something might possibly be coming this way the both of us won't be too fond of."25

Junakae gazed at Shari with admiration and shook his head to come to his senses. She was right, completely to the T. And all he knew was that he had the same feeling that something bad was headed their way.26

"Okay, sunshine. Your wish is my command. Where to?"27

"Wherever I guess. Just don't try feeling me up, and don't call me sunshine or any other pet name. My name is Shari... use it."28

"Whatever you say, sunshine," he answered with sarcasm and a smirk.29

Shari rolled her eyes as she threw her arms around Junakae’s shoulders and let him pick her up.
“Do you know what it is?” he asked, meaning the thing that continued to give her inside chills.
She shrugged. “Could be a number of things. A vampire, a demon- whatever it is, it isn’t good.”
He laughed and jumped, letting loose the cloak and spreading his wings at the same time. “By the way, I slay anything evil that gets in my way. And not all vampires are bad.”
I smiled and breathed in deeply, not mistaking that he smelled simply delicious, like cherry blossoms and maple wood. “I know. Do I seem so evil to you?”
As we flew through the cold dark of night, he bent his head to look at me curiously. I simply smiled in return and moved my head so that my hair was billowing behind me, glowing in the sharp pale moonlight.30

I patiently laid in Junakae’s arms, enjoying the breeze and it kissed every contour of my pallid and freckled face. I had no idea where we were going, but it wasn’t long before we were out of New York City and New York itself.
“Where are we going?” I asked after about a half hour of flying.
“The palace. You might actually like it there. More people to interagate with your little… tricks I guess.”
“They aren’t tricks. They are gifts, thank you.”
‘Tricks, gifts,’ he thought, ‘either way you have something up your sleeve, even as we speak, so I guess it really doesn’t matter.’
“Now, why must you think that I am up to no good? Seriously. I’m not a horrible person.”
“Seriously, why are you reading my mind.”
I sighed and shrugged. “Nothing better to do I guess.”
We were silent once more, and I directed my mind to other things besides Junakae’s head. It was the least I could do, show a tad bit of respect.
After what seemed like hours, we finally landed upon a huge expanse of roof. Littered around it were statues and figurines of gargoyles and angels.
“Tell me, do they come alive to?”
Junakae smiled and laughed. ‘Of course not. Are you crazy?”
I shrugged and followed him as he walked to a door that entered into the house.
“Angel’s don’t live on earth, and the real gargoyles are inside.”
I stopped dead in my tracks. “But, even in your world I heard they were a myth!”
He rolled his eyes and pulled open the door, gesturing for me to enter. “When are you going to stop believing everything that you hear?”
“Maybe when we figure out how to convince everyone we aren’t made for each other.”
“Yeah, right. Will you get inside already?”
I looked at the statues one more time before I padded inside to find myself in a room full of mystical creatures of every kind. Some like Junakae, gargoyles, gorgons, and even a few werewolves. As soon as I entered, however, all of them grew quite and automatically braced themselves against me.
“Vampire!” a few hissed.
But, someone interrupted them and stepped forward. She had beautiful red waves, and a face that was so perfectly set and so perfectly pale, that one had to stop dead in their tracks to stare. “No, my daughter, the Raeyne Rider.”
“Daughter?” Yeah, that was it to get me into a panic attack. I drew back and felt Junakae’s arms wrap around me again.
“Are you okay?”
“Can’t breath,” I gasped. Then, everything went black.
