1
I met a lady, so fair of skin
Her simple beauty shone from within
Her eyes were softened by firelight
I asked to sit a while that so cold night
And as I spoke she listened close
I spoke in rhyme, she replied in Prose
I said “My lady why are you hear?”
She then replied in a voice so clear…2
"I am here just listening
to the crackle of the flame
as I feel the warm glow
fill me against the cold outside."
These are the words she answered
to the man that spoke in rhyme.3
The flame felt good warming my skin
As I wondered of her, what lay within.
Reflections of sadness danced within her eyes
As in the distance I heard my enemies cries
To change the subject I spoke of my quest
Trying to cheer her and add some zest
“I am a hunter and one of the best,
A creature lives close, that is my test.”
And as I was about to explain
She looked at me as is in terrible pain… 4
"A hunter you tell me, but why come here?
There is nothing in this place that needs
to be hunted by you or anyone.
Those that live here have a beauty
unlike anything in all the lands."
With an aching heart I fear that more
of those that I must protect would
end up dead by yet another hunter
looking for glory killing off the beauty of this place.5
“Nothing you say?, can you not hear,
there are dragons living close to here?
Foul beasts with fire for breath
all they do is bring sadness and death.
I am here to put this wrong to right
trust me, my lady, I am here to fight.”
Then I noticed the tears on her check
My words lost in sadness, I could not speak
The beauty screamed then she stood and spoke
And what she said made me stop and choke… 6
Foul beasts you sit there and say!
Those dragons that you hear out there,
are trying there best to take care of their young.
Hunted by Knights that want a fair maiden,
all because the King thinks to rid himself
of all after his daughter's hand, so he does not
have to hand over part of his kingdom.
Dragon's are really kind at heart, for their wisdom
has seen them through many eras that we may
never know if they are killed off.
They are the balance that holds our world together,
for with each of their death, part of our world dies.
So, hunter think on this. If all the dragons are dead,
our world will end, and then where will we all be."7
The moment she spoke I knew it was true
And this is why I pass our story to you
I was a killer with death on my mind
She was my savior, gentle and kind
Ever since that night I have been by her side
Wiping the tears away whenever she cried
For there are many that disbelieve her creed
And even more that have no need
And then there’s she, who understands
That it takes allsorts to balance the land
And so I vowed to protect our earth
The death of anger, salvation’s birth…
