Nayumi was sitting on the hill waiting for her boyfriend,Naraku, to arrive. She thought she heard a rustling in the bushes. She turned, expecting to see a monster. But no, it was Naraku. This puzzled Nayomi. Naraku hated going through the woods. There were to many demons. But she guessed she just had to count her blessings he hadn't been eaten. Suddenly, Naraku pounced with the speed of a cheetah. "What the heck is he doing?" Nayumi thought. All of a sudden, Naraku slashed Nayumi across the stomach with what appeared to be claws. "Owwwww!" Nayumi screeched. Suddenly, another Naraku appeared out of nowhere. He held a little black box in his hand. Nayumi blacked out. Naraku screamed, "Nayumi! No!" Then, the demonic Naraku attacked the other, landing on him. "NO!" screamed Naraku. The demonic twin had fangs, which he sank into the other Naraku's neck. 1
The evil Naraku jumped off the other and sprang away into the night. Nayumi awoke in a daze. She saw Naraku laying on the ground. "That other Naraku with the box must have been a hullucination." she thought. She went over to Naraku and checked his pulse.2
He was dead. She felt no remorse, only regret. Regret, because she had loved this man, and he had tried to kill her. But unknown to Nayumi, that had not been the real Naraku. The real Naraku was the one with the box, the one lying dead before her. 3
What was is that little black box was an engagement ring. He was going to propose to her. But she had no clue. 4
Chapter 25
500 years later: “KYYOON!! GET YOUR BUTT DOWN HERE!” a voice yelled from downstairs, jerking Kyon awake. “MOM! I told you not to wake me up until 11:30!” he yelled down the stairs. 6
He’d slept in the hallway last night, because his little sister Amy and her friends were having a sleep over last night. They’d kicked him out of the room. Amy was 11. She was so bratty! Here he was, turning 16 in 2 days, and his little sister still managed to kick him out of his own room. 7
He sat up, yawned, stretched, and looked out of the window. “Uh-oh.” He muttered. At the house next door, the old Wilkinson house, a new family was moving in. Not one family, not a one, had ever stayed more than a week. The Wilkinson’s had been a young couple with a little boy, but one day, they upped and vanished. Nobody knew what had happened to them. There seemed to have been a struggle. There had been blood everywhere. It had been scary. Really scary. Of course, that had happened over 100 years ago. Nobody in this city had realized that they had gone missing. Until one day, when Kyon was about 5 years old, he had snuck in to the old house, and he found the skeletons. So he did the natural thing any 5 year old would do. He screamed his head off. He tried the door, but it had been stuck, as if held by an invisible hand. He had run to the window. Locked. He had started to cry. Suddenly, there had been a soothing, beautiful voice coming out of nowhere. “Do not cry, child. All will be well. Nayumi will protect you.” And then, a girl with long black hair and a hood over her face had materialized in front of him. He hadn’t known why, but the girl had had a scary, yet soothing presence about her. “There, there.” She had said, cradling him in her arms, “There, there.” He stayed like that for some time, and at one point or another, had dozed off. When he had woken up, the police had been looking for him, they found him, but when they tried to pull him up, an invisible force attempted to hold him back. Kyon had known it was Nayumi, but could he tell anyone? No. So he didn’t. He simply whispered into the darkness, “Please let go, Nayumi.” And she had. 8
“KYON!” a voice yelled, snapping him out of his flash back. “What is it, mom?” he yelled. “You and I are going to go meet the new neighbors, got it?” she said. “Yes, ma’am.” He called. Okay, then, Kyon thought, I guess I’m gonna meet the new neighbors. 9
Kyon did what his mom wanted and got off his butt, went to his room, literally kicked the girls out, grabbed some clothes off his wardrobe, and headed toward the bathroom. 10
After he had gotten dressed, he headed downstairs, stole his sisters’ apple, and then ran out the door before she could comprehend what he had done. His mom was waiting at the road crossing. She looked irritated and was holding a basket that smelled amazing. 11
“Hey Mom, what’s in the basket?” Kyon asked eagerly, “Can I have some of whatever it is?” His mother scowled at him. “If you must know, it’s my homemade cookies. I’m bringing them to the neighbors.” She explained, “And no, you may not have any.” Kyon groaned. “But Mom, you know your cookies are the best!” His mom sighed and said, “Kyon, are you telling me what I want to hear, or are you really serious?” Kyon considered his choices. “A little bit of both, actually.” Kyon said, grinning. “Ky-oon.” His mom groaned. 12
When they had finally made it across the street, they walked to the neighbors’ front door. Kyon stopped about a yard away from the door. His eyes were a million miles away. He was now watching himself as a 5 year old, picking the lock, a handy skill, thought Kyon, on the door of the old Wilkinson place. He watched himself go into the house and go up the stairs. He saw himself opening the door into the room of the dead, as he had called it, and seeing himself frantically trying to open the door and window. Strangely enough, he saw Nayumi in his vision. She was just about to speak when- “Kyon! Come on!” His mom yelled. But Kyon was to stunned to move. He had actually seen Nayumis’ face. It was shock. 13
But it was more of a shock when he saw who had answered the door. 14
There she was, standing in the doorway, stiff and elegant. Nayumi. The very same Nayumi. She sniffed in what Kyon thought might have been disapproval, and called, “Mother! Father! We have visitors.” She was wearing the red cloak from last time. 15
Kyon was dazed by the time the visit was over. Nayumi had only stuck around long enough to say hello and shake Mrs. Harashimis’ and Kyons’ hands, then she had claimed she was going to go to her room. The Hakashimis’ were very hospital. They claimed they loved chocolate chip cookies, but Kyon didn’t see them eat even one. 16
When Kyon got home, he was so startled he yelled when he saw his dad sitting at the table, “Dad! What are you doing here?” Kyons’ dad almost never came home from the office. He was traveling constantly, and they had moved with him for a little while, but they didn’t have enough money to anymore.17
“Same thing as you, sport. Staying home to relax and rest. And, of course, coming home for your 16th birthday." Kyon was still perplexed, but he nodded and said, “Mom will be glad to know you came home.” His dad nodded to and said, “Tell her for me will you?” Kyon said, “Alright, but can you tell Amy to stay out of my room?” His dad smirked and said, “Sure, sure.”Kyon was really starting to be suspicious of his ‘dad’. And hadn’t his dad called yesterday and said he wouldn’t be home for a few more days? 18
When Kyon got to his room and took out his new LG Rumor, and called his dad. His dad picked up after the second ring. 19
“Hello?” his dad’s voice said. “Hey Dad. Were you planning to come home today?” There was a pause. “No, I’m not. Why?” Kyon frowned and said, “Oh, no reason. Just wondering when you were going to come home, that’s all.” Another pause. “I was planning to come home say, 3 days from now.” Kyon lightened his tone so it sounded mildly interested. “Oh, that’s fine. Kay. See you soon. Bye.” Kyon hung up. 20
Kyon walked downstairs to- a little room with the smell of cooking food. “Wha?” Kyon muttered. This was not his living room! What had happened? Kyon was thoroughly confused. What was going on? Kyon looked down and realized he wasn’t standing on the stairs, but merely floating about 3 feet off the ground. “Well, this can’t be good, can it?” Kyon muttered. Then, something rather startling happened. 21
Kyon was amazed to see Nayumi, the Nayumi, walking through the door, arm in arm with a tall boy with shocking jet-black hair. In this scene, Nayumi didn’t look like the mad, depressed looking thing like she did now. And she didn’t wear the red cloak. What was even more shocking was her face. It was beautiful, young, and carefree. Truly amazing. And the boy she was with was tall, with eyes like coal, with a necklace around his neck that said Nayumi. 22
Then Kyon noticed a necklace similar to the boys’ necklace around Nayumis’ neck that said Naraku. 23
Kyon wondered who the boy could possibly be. Then he thought, why do I feel like this? Could this feeling possibly be… jealousy? No, impossible, Kyon thought, absolutely impossible. I don’t even like Nayumi. I have a girlfriend. Come on Kyon, don’t be so stupid. You love your girlfriend, not Nayumi. 24
Kyon tried to shake of the feeling of jealousy and betrayal. But it just wouldn’t go away. 25
Kyon sighed, blinked, yawned, then looked down at- the floor of his bedroom. "Uh-oh." Kyon muttered. Then he fell. "Oof!" Kyon exclaimed. 26
Kyon sighed and decided he'd go downstairs to see if all was normal. 27
As soon as Kyon got downstairs, he could tell something was different. For one, Kyon could smell something stewing-it smelled like leek soup. Second, the furniture was rearranged and was just different all together. "What the crap?" Kyon said, bewildered. 28
"Shudo? Is that you? Shudo?" a voice called from inside the house. It sounded like his mother, except more angelic.Kyon turned around and was amazed to see his girlfriend, Yumi.29
Yumi gasped in shock. "You! I thought you were dead. You went missing- and the police- and- and- oh, Kyon, are you a restless spirit come to haunt me after all these years?" she cried- litterally. She was hyperventilating and sobbing. "Ummm... No?" Kyon said, totally bewildered. 3031
Kyon was even more bewildered when Yumi flew into his arms and kissed him. Kyon broke away. "Aww, Yumi, it's good to see you and all, but who's that?" Kyon asked, pointing to the door.3233
Yumi gasped, then went and flew into the other boys arms. "Shudo! That bad man was trying to kiss me! Oh, Shudo, please get him out!" 3435
Kyon looked at Shudo. Then he looked at Yumi. "Umm,I think we've had a bit of a misunderstanding here, Shudo. You see-"3637
Kyon didn't get to finish his sentence, because just then- he woke up.3839
"Aw,man. I just had the weirdest dream ever!" 4041
Kyon walked apprehensively down the stairs. "Kay, so far so good." he muttered. When he finally made it down the stairs, (he was being really cautious, just in case) he smelled his mom's home-made fried chicken. "Yum." Kyon said. He was walking into the kitchen, when an odd thought struck him. Hadn't it been noon when he, uh, went upstairs to text his dad? And then ended up falling asleep? Kyon shook his head in exasperation. He was never going to get anything done if he kept standing here thinking. He looked like an idiot. "Mom?" he called apprehensively. "Is that you in there?" his mother looked up from the pan she was cooking the chicken in. "Well of course it's me, Kyon, who else would it be? Your father?" she said. Kyon grinned sheepishly. "No, I suppose it would have to be you or Amy. And you and I both know Amy can cook next to nothing." "That's not true!" came a voice from the opening that served as a door. "I can cook pancakes!" "Burnt" "And eggs!" Not fried." Amy shrieked in frustration. "Kyon, you are absolutely the most stubborn man in the history of ever!" Amy yelled. "Thank you." Kyon said with a grin. Amy screamed then stormed out of the room. Kyon laughed. "Kyon! You know that you aren't allowed to be mean to your sister!" "And she's allowed to be mean to me?" Kyon said. "Yes! I mean no. I mean- Kyon, how do you do that?" she said? "Do what?" he said curiously. "Confuse people so easily and so quickly?" "I dunno. Just a talent I guess." he said and walked out the door. He wasn't sure where he was going, he just didn't want to be in a house of lunatics. He finally ended up in the city park-where he proceeded to walk straight into a hooded figure. "Oh, sor-" Kyon began. "Watch where your going, you freak." the hooded figure said darkly. It was a female voice, and the fact that it was a summer day, and the figure was wearing a warm winter cloak, struck Kyon as odd. The girl acted like she was trying to hide something. "Whoa, wait a sec." Kyon said, grabbing her arm. "Hey, aren't you Nayumi?" The hooded figure stiffened, then shook off his hand and said, "No, now go mind your own business." the figure said, then stalked off. "Huh. Well that was rude." Kyon said, rather peeved. "What is up with her? That was just rude. What was she doing here anyway?" He didn't have time to ponder it, however, as his phone started to ring. He looked at it for a moment, confused, as he didn't recognize the number. He answered it cautiously. "Hello?" he said. "Is this Kyon Harashimis?" said a deep scruffy voice. "That depends. Who wants to know?" he said. The voice growled.
