Lisi breathed a sigh of relief when ‘Purple Fishy’ ended. Although he was hot and a good singer, Ethan was so stupid. She was there last week, though, when he wrote it. Of course, like a good girlfriend, she told him it was spectacular and changed the subject. 2

“And we’re gonna be taking a short break now, so…” Ethan addressed the small, confused crowd and swiftly headed back to the lounge. 3

Lisi looked around and tiptoed away to the girls’ bathroom. Just before she stepped in, Lisi slipped into the forbidden lounge.4

Ethan was sitting on the L-shaped couch, tapping his pencil on his lip, a notebook resting on his lap. “Hi,” he waved with his pencil.5

Lisi skipped over to him and placed a kiss on his cheek. “You’re funny. Whatcha writing about?”6

Ethan looked up at her. “A golf ball’s journey to the hole in one. It’s very interesting.”7

“You’re an amazing writer.” Lisi leaned down and placed a slow, sexy kiss on his lips.8

Suddenly, the door opened and a gasp was heard.9

“Lisi?” 10

Lisi whipped around, her pale blonde hair flying. “Vannie?”11

“I – I better go. Bye.” Ethan crawled out from under Lisi and scurried out of the room. 12

“Why would you do this to Audra?” Vannie asked, eyes wide with hurt and concern.13

Lisi laughed half-heartedly, pushing back her cuticles. “One time at a sleepover she asked us if we were still single or not. I was the only one who said I was, and Audra laughed and said, ‘You’re nobody until somebody loves you.’”14

“You didn’t have to do this to her, though! You’re pretty; you could get someone yourself.” Vannie protested.15

Lisi sighed. “I know. Believe me, I know that. I just wanted to be somebody with her somebody. Get back at her.”16

Vannie stared Lisi down for a few moments and looked away, slid her AT&T Tilt up and down, up and down.17

“Revenge is sweet?” Vannie posed a question. 18

Lisi thought for a second. “Yeah.”19

“Do you feel very good about betraying your best friend?” 20

Lisi’s insides twisted. “Ethan’s betraying her even more.”21

“Mmhmm. Well, I have to–”22

“You better not tell anyone.” Lisi said sharply.23

Vannie’s mouth went dry. “I – I’m not gonna. Trust me.”24

Lisi eyed her and said, “If you do…well, I can’t think of what I will do. But you better watch your back.”25
