Friends are full of surprises...

Knock. Knock. Who is that? I wondered.1

I slowly walked to my window, wondering who would be at my window at ten 'oclock at night. I opened the curtains and my eyes widened. 2

I opened the window. "What are you doing here? It's ten 'oclock . Is something wrong?" I asked. 4

"No. Nothing. I'm just here to see my best friend. Hey, do you want to go out?" Nicholas asked me.5

"No. It's late. Now go to sleep Nick," I said, about to close the window.6

Nick stuck out his hand, "No! Come on Cyndi, have some fun once in a while. Let's go to the amusement park," Nick said as he grabbed my hand. My heart beat quickened. Nick pouted.7

"No! Nick don't make that face!" I softly laughed as I closed my eyes.8

"Please? Pretty please?" Nick said as his grip on my hand tightened. 9

"Ah, I guess I might as well go. I know you'll bother me all night," I said and Nick smiled. 10

"Thanks. Hurry and change. We're going to have so much fun!" 11

"Ugh, I feel sick," I said. 13

"Me too," Nick said as we both moaned in pain. I felt like I was going to throw up all my insides. 14

"Hey, I'm starving. Let's eat something." Nick said as he dragged me to the food area. "Hmm, I want french fries, a hot dog, a pretzel, an ice-cream and uh... cotton candy. What do you want Cyndi?" Nick asked.15

"Anything," I said, smiling happily. 16

The cool summer wind blew and I felt great. I'm with Nicholas, my best friend ever. He's been through everything with me, and somehow, I know this is wrong, but I fell in love. Ugh, with Nicholas. I feel bad, but when I think about it, I can't help but smile. 17

"Achoo!" 18

"Uh-oh. It looks like someone's coming down with something. After we finish eating, we'll leave. For now, have my jacket." Nick said as he handed me his jacket. 19

I took it, grateful. I put it on, and Nick's colonge entered my nose. A musky, man-like smell. I closed my eyes and hugged myself. Being with Nick, felt so good. I mean, I've always been with him, all my life, and sometimes it's tiring, but I guess he had grown on me somewhere in my life.20

"Hello? Cyndi??" Nick said my name bringing me back from my daze.21

"Yeah?" I asked still hugging myself. 22

"Let's eat," Nick said and took a bite of his hotdog. I smiled. 23

Nick and I walked home. We walked side-by-side. I looked up at the night sky. "The stars are so beautiful," I softly whispered. 25

"Yeah, but something else is even more beautiful. Or, someone," Nick said as he looked up at the sky. 26

"Really? What... or who?" I asked.27

"I'm not telling." Nick said and I didn't even ask. I started counting stars. 28

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. 29

"Hey, Cyndi, can I ask you something?" Nick asked.30

"No. You can't. I don't liked to be asked anything," I said as I giggled at my own joke. Nick shook his head, and smiled. 31

"Um, I kind of like someone," Nick said. My heart beat stopped. Nick liked someone?!? No way!32

"Who?" I asked curious but panicking. 33

"No names. Anyway, I want to know if she likes me back. People said she did, but I don't know. And, we have this amazing friendship, and I don't want to ruin it by my curiosity, " Nick said. Oh my gosh. Nick likes someone?34

"Who is it? Is it Jamie you like? I mean because Jamie doesn't like you. I know that with all my being," I said. 35

Who would Nick like? Jenna? Karen? Lola? Kelly? Marwa? Samantha? Maybe it's a teacher? Ms. Martina? She's young and pretty. But I don't think Nick would go for older women. 36

"So, I want to go to her and ask her, but I don't want it to be straight-forward. It'll be weird you know?" Nick continued.37

Maybe it's the newspaper girl. I see her sometimes eyeing Nick. 38

"What do you think? How should I ask her?" Nick asked me.39

"You should be straight-forward. You know most girls aren't patient," I said. Yes, if Nick's straight-forward, then the girl wouldn't like it. Girls would like it to be romantic. 40

"Uh, are you sure?" Nick asked.41

"Yeah, positive." I said.42

What type of a woman does Nick like? Smart? Pretty? Sexy? Funny? Big-breasted? Cheerleaders? Newspaper girls? Teacher's pets? Brunettes? Older women?? 43

"Okay. Um, one more question. How would I confess?" Nick asked.44

"Confession? No! Girls don't like being confessed by boys! It makes them think that boys aren't manly!" I said. What am I going to do? Nick likes someone. People say that "she" likes Nick too. Oh! I wish I knew who it was!45

"You know what? I'm going to go with my gut right now. Thank you Cyndi for your advice, but I'm going to go with my gut feeling. Cyndi-" Nick started until I cut him off. 46

"Hey! Look a shooting star! Make a wish!" I shouted and closed my eyes. I wish whoever Nick likes, doesn't like him back. 47

Wait. I'm being selfish here. Should I be doing this? 49

No I shouldn't. I want Nick to be happy, instead of moping around and saying that he made a mistake. I know he'll say something like that. He'll regret confessing. Oh my gosh. Then he'll probably blame it on me and our friendship might be over! NOOOO!!!!!50

So, shooting star, I wish for Nick's happiness. Please let Nick be the happiest man ever.51

"Are you done wishing?" Nick asked.52

I opened one eye. The guy in front of me, my best friend, my secret lover, my other half, would go into another woman's arms. He'll be kissing another woman. He'll be in love with another woman. He'll dancing with another woman. He'll be having fun with the another woman.... and I'll probably be forgotten. 53

You know as they say, If you love something let it go free. If it doesn't come back, you never had it. If it comes back, love it forever. So, I guess I'm going to have to let him go and hope that he comes back to me, so I can love him forever. NICK! YOU BETTER COME BACK TO ME!!! SO I'LL LOVE YOU MORE THAN THE OTHER WOMAN! I sigh.55

"Yeah, so, what were you saying?" I asked sadly. 56

"Cyndi, I like you. I...I hope you like me too," Nick said as he closed his eyes. 57

I blinked. I blinked again."What the-?" I said, and then I start laughing and crying. 58

Nick stood there dumbfounded. Oh poor Nick.59

"Hey, uh, if you don't like me too, then just say it. Don't laugh. You're laughing so much, tears are coming out," Nick said, and frowned. 60

"No Nick! It's not like that!" I said in between laughs. 61

"Whatever. I'm leaving," Nick said as I heard his anger through his voice.62

"No Nick! Wait!" I said as I hugged him tightly. 63

"Nick! I like you too! I love you! It's just I thought you were going to leave me! I'm so sorry," I said as I continued laughing and crying. Nick patted me. 64

"I guess it makes sense. It's you. I mean you're the weirdest girl I ever met, and yet you made me fall in love with you," Nick looked up," I mean how can I leave you? I don't think any girl can stand my eating habits, or my laziness, or my thoughts," Nick said.65

"Yeah, oh Nick, what am I going to do with you?" I asked. 66

"You can make-out with me?" Nick said hopefully.67

I laughed. "Nick, you're really funny. Anyway, see you tomorrow," I said as I climbed in my bedroom window. Nick stood there.68

"What about my good-night kiss?" Nick asked. I blew him a kiss.69

"There. Good-night darling," I said and heard Nick mumble loudly, 70

"Girls. So confusing."

    I really enjoyed this story. I felt that you might offer a little more detail in order to show the change in time and location. They were back at her bedroom window rather suddenly. I didn't realize they'd left the amusement park.

    Otherwise, well written and fun.
