Bridget Gibbs: Chapter 3

Sarah sent her daughter to school, though she damn well didn’t want to.1

After cleaning up the mess in the kitchen and bandaged her wound, 2

Bridget went upstairs and dressed for school.3

When she finally went downstairs she was wearing an oversized grey sweater, blue jeans, and white and black converse.4

Sarah looked over her daughter taking note of any new bruises or cuts so she can write it down and keep the nurse up to date.5

Bridget glanced down looking literally exhausted.6

Sarah heard her stomach rumble.7

“Now, remember that if you feel hungry or anything of that sort, go to the nurse and she’ll call me,” Sarah said as she put a piece of hair behind her daughter’s ear.8

“I know,” Bridget nearly whispered. “Just like all of the other times.”9

Bridget then walked out of the kitchen and the last thing that 10

Sarah heard was the front door close.11

Bridget waited at the bus stop, though it was against her better judgment. 12

Valerie and her friends were usually there to pick on her.13

“Look at that! It’s the little freak!” Valerie said incredibly loud in her crisp British accent pointing.14

Bridget walked past the bullies looking straight ahead.15

“Awwwww, does the little freak not want to talk to her friends?” 16

Valerie asked as she pushed Bridget causing her to stumble but not fall.17

“If you’re friends, I’d hate to see what enemies are like,” a voice came from behind them causing Bridget to look up.18

Phillip stood in front of them, his hair slightly messy and his clothes slightly wrinkled.19

“Oh look it’s the little freak’s friend!” Valerie said nervously as she backed up an unnoticeable inch.20

“That’s me,” Phillip said nonchalantly as he grabbed Bridget’s arm and gently pulled her out of the cluster of girls.21

“Phillip…,” Bridget whispered as she looked up at the friend that she hadn’t seen in at least two weeks.22

He looked down at her and smiled that melting smile of his. 23

You see, Phillip was a good couple of inches taller than Bridget, and due to the fact that he was a good year older than her.24

She was 13, he was 14.25

And they were best friends ever since she first started to have her outbursts.26

She was 9 and returned to back to school. The outbursts were getting worse, but the new prescription would aim to cure that.27

It was first recess and she was sitting under one of the trees making flower chains.28

She then felt her eyes start to roll into the back of her head and blackness started to overwhelm her.29

The next thing that she remembered was Phillip hugging her as if to say everything was okay.30

She had asked what had caused him to do that, and all he replied was, “You were shouting things that my Navy-drinking-hillbilly-uncle wouldn’t even dream of whispering.”31

And that was the start of a beautiful friendship.32
