Deserved Recognition (Please Read)

I find it odd how so few people actually get recognized for the things that they do. Sure, you can be thought of as pretty special if you burp the loudest or chug the most soda, but what about the things that actually, really matter? When someone goes out of her way – or even if it wasn’t so far from her general direction – to do something kind for you, even if it’s incredibly simple, shouldn’t she get some credit? That person that smiled at you on the subway or the one that picked up a piece of paper that you dropped – shouldn’t they be considered kind? No one has to be considerate or helpful, and these days so many people aren’t, but when someone who is comes along, we should be grateful. Soon we won’t even know kindness if it slaps us in the face because we overlook so many things. Today, retrieving your book from the ground doesn’t mean much, but it should. If we continue at this rate, someone saving your life won’t even matter. People have so much power – they can be angry, cruel, sinister, but they can also be wonderfully kind. So the next person you see – whether he is a stranger or a close friend – who compliments your work or says how beautiful you look, say thank you. That person took time out of his day to show you something about yourself that he thought you deserved to know; he didn’t have to do it, but he did. Don’t ever take those things for granted because you will completely miss out on the essence of the abilities of the human race and on true, unconditional kindness.

Author notes

It's incredibly choppy and terribly written, but it's more about the message than anything. I hope you get something out of this.
