A tale of a lantern

Flutter flutter fluttering on,1

As darkness swallows the world around,2

Nothing to hope for around,3

Nothing to make life mean more sound.4

It flies on and on and on,5

Searching for a meaning,6

To see what could make things mean,7

A hungry unexplained yearning.8

An on it goes braving winds of despair,9

An on until…10

It sees the tiny speck of hope,11

A tiny ray that calls to it.12

It goes now with new found hope,13

Knowing at last what destiny means,14

Seeing not what stands on the path,15

Until the rays of hope to reach.16

And lo there stands the lantern,17

Surrounded by a million such,18

Glowing through no fault of its own,19

Beaming hope to the many.20

It reaches the lantern and on it goes,21

Not seeing the million like it around,22

Not knowing the fate that waits for them,23

In the shining end of destiny.24

The lantern watches not knowing,25

The one among the many that come,26

For, to it, there is not one true love,27

For so many it has seen not true to self.28

It flies and flies on and on,29

Until the heat of love engulfs,30

Burning in the heat it still flies on,31

Hoping to make sense of its life.32

And lo there lies the truth of life,33

Where men they fall to women unknown,34

For the lantern knows not of a true love lost,35

And the slain know not of the unworthy lot.36

Those fallen will forever remember,37

Their flight to hope and destiny,38

The life they had seen in those fleeting moments,39

When love they did of the purest form.40

And forever the light will know not,41

Of the true love it lost hidden in the many,42

For them it is but a daily chore,43

To light the way for a million unknown.44
