It wasn't like Adalene not to be dancing, especially when it came to a large group of people, because she had a somewhat of a show off in her nature. Her large herd of girlfriends where on the outer edges of the dance group, about ten feet in front of her. She watched them smiling slightly to her self. 2
Gael stood on the opposite side of the room. All his life, he had never really been one for dances. His eyes had fallen on Adalene early that night, and so far he had no success in pulling them from her. She worn a deep violet dress, that lacked straps. The bodice was tight from the bust to the hips, where it flared out in a jig jag uneven cut patter on the bottom hem. Her chestnut brown hair was pulled back in the front, while the back cascaded down to the middle of her back in soft waves.3
She had been dancing earlier that night, but had since ceased. She stared at her friends now, watching them enjoy themselves, laughing and dancing, having the time of their lives is what it seemed like. They had every right to live it up tonight, for tomorrow would bring the demons to their door again, and if the sages were right, this battle would be one of the most difficult yet. 4
Gael stared at her from afar. She was growing even more beautiful every time he saw her. He wanted to tell her this but every time he did the words came out wrong, a messed up jumble, or they would not even make it out of his mouth, but stay hiding in his throat. 5
He finally gathered up enough courage to approach her. Normally this was not a challenge for him, but he was always a little more nervous around her friends, just something about them made him loss his courage. Even though Adalene was not really with them, she was still near them, and that stuck down the confidence to talk to her he normally had. 6
It had just started to be like this, his tremendous shyness had just started in the last few years, it wasn't like this before. Something had changed between them, him and Adalene. Gael didn't seem to notice it at first, but now there was not denying it, something was different. But Adalene was a different case, she didn't seem to notice anything at all, she was always the same to him, the beautiful girl he had known since he was young, his best friend for as long as he could remember.7
He walked around the edge of the room, trying to avoid the massive hoard of people. He walked in small slow strides, softly stepping on the ground as he journeyed around the room. 8
“Hey,” he said, coming to stand beside her.9
She turned her head to face him, a smile on her face, “Are you having fun?” Her eyes seemed even more alive tonight, like a royal violet fire was dancing in her eyes. 10
“As much as I ever could at one of these. I'm...”11
She cut him off, “not really into dancing. I know. I just thought something might have changed, but I guess not.” She still smiled at him. 12
“Yeah. What on Earth do they call this music? It is terrible.”13
The music that had just begin to fill the room was awful. The singer's voice sounded like a sick combination of nails on chalk board, a siren wailing, someone screaming in pain, and the cries from a cat being swung by it's tail.14
“I think it is some song from before the fall of man. The singer was one of the first to die when the veil fell.”15
“I am not surprised why. If I heard her singing, I probably would have killed her to. Who the hell is this?”16
“I think her name was Miley Montana or something along those lines. Honestly I don't really want to know.”17
“Yeah, nether do I,” he muttered. 18
Things fell silent between them. Adalene continued to watch her friends on the dance floor, while as Gael stood with his hands shoved in his pockets and stared off into space.19
Once the wailing of Miley Montana stopped another song began. But this time it was once that Gael was able to recognize. It was a song from prior to the fall of the man, like most of the music. 20
The voice of the singer began to fill the room. 21
The best thing about tonight is we are night fighting22
Gael stared at Adalene, who was still watching the dance floor, which was now emptying of the people. The occupants of the floor were now either dancing with their date of the opposite sex, the girls with their friends, or merely wondering to the side of the room, waiting for someone to ask them to dance. 23
Gael swallowed, “Adalene?”24
She turned her head slightly, “Yeah?”25
“May I have this dance?” he asked cautiously. 26
She stared at him for a moment. “Of course.” A smile once again adorned her face, but this time it was a subtle and sweet one.27
She offered out her hand to him, and he toke it and lead her to the middle of the dance floor. 28
I know you don't think I am trying sounded in the back ground, causing Gael to blush. “Oh, the irony,” he thought, “Of all lines to play right now.” The truth was it was true. She didn't think he was trying to be anything more then her friend, but the truth was he secretly wanted to be, even though he wasn't sure of it, he knew there was something there between them, and he was trying to show it to her, but she was oblivious to it. 29
The held held her hand in his, placed his left hand on her hip, and began to guide her across the dance floor. He could feel the stares of those around them, especially her friends, pressing down on the, as the danced across the floor, which caused him to blush even more deeply.30
Tonight will be the night that I fall for you.31
She looked beautiful tonight. He already knew that, but up close she was even more stunning. A soft pink blush adorned her sun kissed skin. He looked at her eyes, and realized that he could stared into the pools of amethyst forever, until time came crashing down around them. 32
“I thought you didn't like to dance? Especially to slow songs,” she said softly, looking for his gaze.33
“I don't.”34
“Then why did you ask me to dance with you?” she said.35
She had backed him into a corner again, like she always did. It was the way that she got her way and whatever answers wanted from anyone. He didn't know what to tell her, hell he didn't even know himself why he had done it.36
“Lena, please just humor me in this.”37
This is not what I intended.38
He watched her angelic face, as her eyes scanned the room. She looked like a goddess. 39
A girl like you is impossible to find.40
He had been listening to the lyrics of the song, closely the entire time, they had been in the back of his mind. He found it shocking how similar they were to his thoughts at that moment. 41
I don't want to live to see another day, I swear it is true42
He didn't want to lose her. She would never leave his side as a friend, he knew that. But what if she didn't come back after a battle or if she fell for someone else, some other strong, tall, dark, handsome, and suave Toren. He didn't want to lose her, to anything. But he didn't know why he was starting to feel this way about her. There was a chaos of emotions going on inside of him, all centered around her, and he didn't know why.43
I have loved you from the start. He subconsciously squeezed her hand, and an almost inaudible sound escaped from his lips. 44
And remember me tonight when your asleep. 45
Their eyes locked, and something shot between them, something that neither one of them had felt up until that exact moment, that very second. Something was being passed between the slate and violet eyes, something that they could not explain or put into words, but as sure as hell they could feel it. 46
Her eyes shut slowly, as did his. Their heads began to move in toward one another's, and Gael's head tilted slightly to the left, while Adalene's went right. Their lips lightly brush against one each, sending what felt like an electric shock through out their bodies.47
Their eyes suddenly snapped open and they realized what had just happened. The broke apart quickly, and broke their gaze. 48
“Thank you for dancing with me Adalene,” he muttered shyly, putting his right hand over his hair, and left in his pocket, his entire face painted red with embarrassment. “ I need to go now,” he uttered quickly, and ran off.49
“Your welcome,” she muttered softly, watching as he darted off. 50
Later that night, Adalene laid in her bed, staring up at the ceiling, the events of the night playing through her head like a movie. But the movie seemed to be stuck on repeat, because it kept on replaying the kiss that she had shared with Gael.51
Why in the world had she kissed him? Why had he kissed her? There was something about the way that he looked at her. The way that he stared into her eyes, he had never looked at her that way before. What was going on? 52
And why on Earth could she not stop playing the moment through her mind. She saw it in the third person point of view even. His grey eyes met hers, and his head of silver blond hair leaned in, and her lips met his. But why? Why did it happen? And now of all reasons?53
She couln't stop thinking about it no matter how hard she tried. What was wrong with her?54
That night all she was able to think about was Gael, and the kiss that they had exchanged. The last image she saw before she fell into a dreamless sleep were his grey eyes. Grey eyes that were painted with a strange emotion. One she had never seen in them before. 55

Aw, this is a wonderful story! I love stories about best friends who fall for each other. The whole dance was wonderfully written, the only thing I would say was that you need to make the lines of the song a little clearer... I got a little confused to begin with, but apart from that I loved the whole thing. Thank you for entering my contest, and good luck!

The song lyrics were originally in italics when I wrote this, but I am guessing that they got lost somewhere along the way and became what you see now. Thanks for that. I will be sure to fix it.

Really great story, I can't wait to read more! There were several grammar mistakes and typos, mostly skipping a word, or writing "the" instead of "they". But it wasn't very noticeable.
Thanks for entering and good luck!

Very descriptive and quite lovey-dovey. I am surprised that more ppl have not commented on this. I love when friends love each other it always promises to be a good read and I was most certainly not disappointed.
Great sentence structure and plot too-nothing I saw required changing.
I hope your friends reconsider ignoring your stories coz this one's a doozy!
