The rain was pouring down and down, making it difficult to see the road right in front of me. It didn't help that it was dark. I could hear cars going straight past, making the puddles splash, coming close to me. I was glad I had the sense to sit more far back on the pavement.
I was thankful for the rain though. It covered up the tears, so no one could see. Like anyone was around.
I knew that Helena hated the rain with true passion. It made her straightened black hair go curly. I smiled, remembering her beautiful black hair. It was not just her hair that was beautiful. Everything about her was.
Until today.
I saw the horrible, mean, heart breaking side of her. I could even remember everything that she had said.
"Your spiteful, selfish and you never think about anyone apart from yourself." Helena had said, glaring at me with those dark brown eyes.
My world had fallen to pieces at that moment, as well as my heart. I couldn't work out why or what I had done, but she clearly hated me.
I didn't hate her. I loved her. Too much.
Maybe she knew I had feelings for her like that? She was so scared of me that she had to make sure we were no longer friends. Girls liking girls are not welcome. Not welcome at all. Not by anybody.
Then it hit me.
I looked up at the cars, squinting to see how fast they were going. Very fast. More than thirty miles per hour.
I stood up, stretching. Like I really needed too, it was just an excuse to be slow at it.
I left my school bag and blazer on the side of the road, knowing they'd slow me down.
For several moments, I had to wait for the right car, the right time. Then I spotted the perfect one.
It was a blue Mercedes, going at least forty-five miles per hour. It was coming up, fast. I edged a little off the pavement, standing there, not thinking, hardly breathing.
Then the right moment came.
I ran with all my might, just in time to see the car right in front of me, at full speed.
They say that your whole life flashes before your eyes right before your eyes. All that flashed in front of me was Helena's face.
