I tend to have way more ideas in my head than I know what to do with sometimes. Occasionally, those ideas surface and I end up writing something I'm happy with. Often times, I end up writing something without completely finishing it, which is something that really annoys me.2
Recently, however, I've been trying something I haven't done for a while: write something simply to write. I got too busy with the rest of my life, that I forgot why I like to write and it became a burden, so now I'm trying to set myself in the right mindset by writing just about anything that comes into my head.3
The main thing I'm looking at right now is a story about animals who are trying to save their forest from humans. It isn't really much, but based on what my goal for writing is right now it's done its job fairly well—it got me to actually write for fun. I've posted it on Storywrite, and it can be found here: http://storywrite.com/story/266974. 4
It's fairly long, but I wrote as things came to me. I don't really know why I started writing about animals, it's pretty much a first for me. The first thing I remember is that I was reading a Wikipedia article on foxes, and then I was writing about a fox. I can't remember if I had the idea to write about a fox first, or if I got it after reading the article. I plan to continue writing the story, for now at least, perhaps I can break my habit of leaving projects unfinished.5
Additionally, I have all kinds of ideas, plots, and characters that I have either tried to write about or have actually been able to bring to life but not in a way that I think I'm capable of doing now. When something strikes me, I'll probably end up writing about those old plots and characters, but until then I just want to focus on writing at all. 6
That's pretty much it, actually. My little story about forest animals is at the forefront right now, and I plan to keep it that way. For once, I'm sort of interested in where the story will go, which actually makes me want to write. Hopefully, I'll be able to find out what happens to my main character, Jasper, and his band of crazy animal friends, because if I don't end up writing about them...who will, really?7
Author notes
It sounds really weird, but the smell of Nerf balls inspire me. I think it's because I used to play with Nerf stuff as a kid.

Sounds like you have a little case of writers "stump." I do like how though even though you know that you may not have the time or the effort during a bust life. You still make time for writing even if it is just to get things out of your head. Maybe make a routine.
A little time a day start with 15 mins then build up.
Good Luck with your story
Thanks for abiding by the rules.
what is a nerf ball?
