Near to the door*1
he paused to stand2
as he took his class ring3
off her hand4
all who were watching5
did not speak 6
as a silent tear7
ran down his cheek8
and through his mind9
the memories ran10
of the moments they walked11
and ran in the sand hand and hand12
but now her eyes were so terrible cold13
for he would never again14
have her to hold15
they watched in silence16
as he bent near17
and whispered the words..18
"I LOVE YOU" in her ear19
he touched her face and started to cry20
as he put on his ring and wanted to die21
and just then the wind began to blow22
as they lowered her casket23
into the snow....24

when friends let friends....27
drink and drive.
Author notes
I don't know how many loved ones have been lost in these terrible events. But I do know that they are 100% avoidable. I like to have fun but everything has its boundaries. I mean they say "drink responsibly" for a reason, people! Please, I get tired of hearing the deaths that happen on prom night or the night of graduation. I've already lost one classmate, trust me you don't want to know how that feels!

Written very beautifully. its very sad how many people die in drinking related accidents. I'm really sorry to say this, but this is under the word limit, and I will have to DQ you. It would be great if you entered something else.

That was really amazing because it is written very well and the message is so important. It tells the sad eality of what happens when someone you know does not make a smart choice. One instantaneous decision can change an entire life. Wonderfully lovely.

This is really sad. There was an accident on the night of my graduation, too. one of my classmates little brothers was killed and he was put in the hospital. I know how sad it is to lose someone you've known forever. You did a great job capturing that emotion in this poem.
