VILLAINS [Chapter 1]

VILLAINS1

Chapter One: A WARM WELCOME…2

3

Cold, empty planet. What has gone wrong with our planet Earth? This, I am sure, is all my fault. I caused this; now I must to fix it, fix everything!4

“Look out!”5

I turned, rapidly, and saw a blue, circular volt of electricity coming my way. The next thing I knew, I was on the ground facing one of my squad member’s face. We shared a rapid glance at each other. I could sense a quick feeling of relief in his bright blue eyes; but of course, it didn’t last long. He jumped up to his legs, and so did I.6

“Thanks,” I expressed with great gratitude, “I thought I was a goner.”7

“No problem,” he replied, “Just because I’m Normal doesn’t mean…”8

Another volt of blue electricity was dazzling our way…9

We, my team of eight, including me, where advancing through an old abandoned city. I had received orders to bring my squad and take back control of our former base, now being controlled by the enemy.10

Since our arrival here, it had been surprisingly calm and quiet. Alert as we were, my team and I, were caught all of a sudden under fire. The enemy came out of an old, burned-down building. It seemed like not so many enemy soldiers, yet it was still best for us to scatter and take cover behind old, rusted cars lying in the empty streets.11

…I turned, reached my hand out, and closed my eyes. The blue volt of electricity fused with my hand, moving slowly up my right arm then going into a halt when reaching my shoulder. A small tickling feeling came in such haste I nearly felt it.12

“How I wish I was Special too,” my partner Matt, who had pulled me out of the path of the first volt, said as we rushed behind another car.13

“Its not that great,” I confessed. “I’ve seen others with real power. This is nothing.”14

I felt like telling him, letting him know that all this was my fault. My stupid ability wasn’t good enough to prevent all this. Everything would have been different if I was Normal, if the enemy was Normal, if everything in this damned world was Normal!15

I ducked behind the car, peeking slightly to find the man with That ability. There he was; a man with blond spiked hair, average height, and eyes with a shocking stare. The man was accompanied by five others who seemed to be Normal. It was evident that the enemy was using our same strategy of having someone Special in charge of the squads. 16

“That’s him right?” Matt wondered.17

“Yes. You guys stay away from him. I need to face him myself.”18

“I could probably take him down.”19

“No. He could kill you with one electric blast. What do you think I’m here for?”20

He looked down in a disappointing, yet challenging stare. I could tell what he was thinking.21

“Don’t even try,” I said, watering down his foolish thoughts.22

“Fine,” he replied, now his eyes seemed calm.23

There was fire and grenade explosions everywhere. A small but harsh shooting between two small squads. The things I was experiencing at the moment reminded me of those mafia movies where the men would shoot at each other in the middle of streets, taking cover only with their own cars. The only difference was that here there was fire and a man who could shoot electricity through his hands.24

I leaned down on the car facing opposite of the shooting. This stupid war! If only I could go back and be stronger and prevent this! I’m pretty sure all my squad members hate this war as much as I do; well most except for David who seems to be enjoying himself shooting at the enemy. Its no wonder to me, after all, his entire family was killed by the first wave of nuclear missiles.25

“What are they doing?!” Matt pointed out.26

I turned to my left; the direction in which Matt had pointed. David was covering himself behind an old, faded blue car with shattered windows and flat tires. He was shooting recklessly and seemed to have killed one of the enemy soldiers, for a body was lying dead on the ground. The man with the blond hair and his other four men started retreating slowly. It seems they underestimated my men. 27

“After them!” I ordered, “They might lead us to the base!”28

We were still under fire though. I pushed myself up and lead my team after the enemy, being cautious to make it back to the base alive.29

The enemy finally ceased fire and started running after another one of their members was shot down, this time by Derrick, another member of my squad. They ran down the street, following the blond man, and turned right. We followed closely behind.30

We turned and came to a fast halt. There was no trace of the enemy. They just disappeared out of sight. I pulled my rifle up to my chest, ready to shoot if necessary. A feeling of unease overwhelmed my entire body.31

“Something doesn’t feel right,” Matt murmured, his voice sounded a bit shaky.32

“Just stay alert,” I suggested. My voice didn’t sound so steady itself; at least it wasn’t as shaky as Matt’s.33

“How about you put down those nice toys of yours?” a voice from behind suggested, referring to our weapons.34

The eight of us placed our rifles on the ground and turned slowly. The man with the blond hair was holding his arm out, a volt of blue lighting all around it. Two men were beside him, one to his left and the other to the right, both aiming at our faces with their rifles. The other two man was behind us, aiming at our heads as well.35

“You fools are coming with us,” the blond man said, a smile going across his face. 36

    Its a TRAP!

That was an interesting Sci-Fi story with a tinge of seems like superpowers. It was a pretty good read but, of cliches, you could guess what was coming up next, there is always a trap and I guess that what I was assuming was going to happen but it will be interesting to see what happens. I am definatlly looking forward to the next chapter if you decided to release it fairly soon. The character David seemed kind of typical, someone who lost everything and is so reckless? Perhaps give a little more depth to the characters wouldbe great!

Also I would love more explainiation of how the this is all the main character's fault.

    beginning: 3, language: 3, plot: 3, ending: 3, dialog: 3, characters: 3.

thanks for the feed back. yeah I tried to give each character different peronalities. David's the reckless one. if you continue to read you'll find there's the intellectual one and the couragious one. Kinda cliche as you say, but it helps with the story's contrast. Also, I'm planning on explaining that as the story progresses, along with the real meaning behind the war. Thanks for reading.
