The thunder clapped in the sky, high over head. Blinding sheets of rain fell from the sky obsucring the groups vision. But still they continued to march to the castle. Large torches were scattered among them and a battering ram filled the center of the crowd. Their voices stayed low to keep from being heard. But the monster heard them.1

The basilisk hissed as he glared at the intruders. "Why can't they leave me alone?" His attention went back to the young woman standing in front of him. She wore the usual lose fitting pants and her thin strapless top. A thin mahogony bow peeked from behind her neck. The visitor pulled a small vial from inside the tight bun on top of her head and tossed it to the creature. 2

"It's because they believe that you're killing off people and the livestock. Naturally, you live in a dark castle. Rumors are that your a hideous monster. Now my dear sir, is that true?"3

A sound equivalant to a snort sounded from the reptilian creature. "Which would you prefer my dear Abeni? The hideous or the monster part to be true?" Without much effort the basilisk crossed the room. Before he made it, Abeni had dodge and prepared her bow for his next attack. She narrowed her eyes an took her aim carefully.4

She fingered the tail of her arrow and paused before speaking. "You made a promise to the Elders, basilisk. If you intend to go back on that promise, I'l make your transition into the other world quite easy." Without warning, she sent an arrow into the beast belly. At first the basilisk felt nothing. Then a burning sensation ebbed in his wound. Spider like black lines trailed up from wound. As the poison from the arrom spread quickly into his body, Abeni began to recite a verse. 5

"Iacte anime ab incindus; se vulnerat." The snake like creature writhed on the floor as his tomrment increased. Savage words followed from his forked tongue but could not be heard over the young excorsist's chanting. When at last its body had given up, Abeni could hear the towns people down stairs. They had broken in faster than she had expected. "Dammit!" The young woman leaped over to the desk and grabbed all the useful stuff she could find and squeezed it into the cradle for her bow. After ripping the jaw line of the basilisk out, she made her way to the window. From her perspective it was a about a 20 meter drop. Abeni tightened all her belongings and kicked out the glass of the window. She tested the wind and decided to chance it. "I could always aim for the moat." She let go of the windowsill and nose dived. At five meters she pulled up and unfurled the flaps on her jacket. Float in along she steered herself to the forest wear the Elder Mark was waiting.6
