The Façade

Time does not heal; it simply makes us more tired, and more sick; more indifferent; until we dine with indifference, and breathe with indifference, and love with indifference. Until we become indifference. 1

We thought that pity would take us to the angels; we thought that it could heal the plagues, the famines. We banished evil, and found hypocrisy. We took away hunger, and found greed. We killed off sadness, and found only indifference.2

They say that love is boundless. They say, love like brothers, they say; And the sky is tinted with red. 3

There was once a girl; she stoned a blue jay to death, and pierced his corpse with a stick. 4

Love thy brothers; and peace will overflow. I will love the murderers as my kin, for we are all murderers. 5

I walk, and the roads smell of decay. I take a stroll in nature, and its emptiness plagues me with guilt. Beautiful nature? I saw thunderstorms ripping people’s limbs from the hands of their mothers. I’ve seen tortures in sacred names, I’ve seen blood. And don’t you think that I can’t see! Don’t you dare tell me you don’t smell the stench of corpses! All by beautiful nature, that there is. 6

And don’t pretend we don’t all know it; the way animals are cruel; and the way men are vicious; for we conjure evil knowing we are all darkness. 7

Love? Can it defeat the boundaries? I’ve seen men with feverish eyes and drunken staggers; I’ve seen the poets screaming for the love burning corrosion in their hearts. I’ve seen them; the women with empty gaze and dark sulks for eyes; staring into the horizon, helpless. That is love! An incurable heroin, a fiendish demon. How we would abandon all for love! Hell to beauty and to fame, for we would strike our hearts and beg as paupers for love! 8

Is it true then? We idol illusions? Has anyone the courage to admit it? 9

I once gave my hand away; I gave it for trust, for happiness. I gave it in the throngs of madness, and I lost it. There is a piece still missing; I can feel it when I try to pick up objects in the dark. Where has it gone? The bitter gall still flares in my veins, from time to time; but it’s an elderly lion now. I gave it up for trust, and trust? Trust is a narcissistic virgin. 10

Give me hope? We gave hope, and found delusion. We gave solidarity, and found loneliness. The more we embrace, the more we drift apart. I live in a world full of people; and yet, the more I see the faces, the more I feel the pangs of solitude. And the more I weep, the more I fail to see its pointlessness. 11

Depression, you say? Try to deny these words; for I know we try to hide from ourselves; but where will it lead? We’re already dead. We’ve always been dead. There was never someone to save us, and mom and dad lied about Santa Clause. 12

We taught people to fly, and cut off their wings. 13

"We taught people to fly, and cut off their wings."
That was a beautiful line. I can find a lot of symbolism in it. You show people what they can be, then crush the dreams. It's very sad.

"There was once a girl; she stoned a blue jay to death, and pierced his corpse with a stick. " People are violent, and it's true, peace comes when you love.

Those were my favorite lines. Great writing. Is that an opinion? Okay, great job, good luck!
