The Gifted [Part One]

Somewhere along the western border of Pennsylvania exists the small town of Cambon, named after the rare rocks that exist there, eons old and unmovable from the strong magnetic force that has developed over ages of association with the rocks, in a way similar to a paper clip sitting next to a magnet for a while. The magnetic force, unlike other magnets, was specifically created to only attract the cambon rocks, cementing them to their spot for all eternity, fated never to move.1

The cambon rocks, although special for the magnetic force created, have a much different purpose to the town, state, and civilization in general. Anyone familiar with genetics know that dominant genes, when paired with a recessive genes, overpower the recessive. However, when two recessive genes are paired up, a recessive trait is inherited to the child, such as blond hair, blue eyes, or a small nose. Both parents must hold a recessive gene for it to work, but a recessive trait does not always have to be present for the trait to be inherited.2

The cambon rocks react with two recessive genes genes, formed from a mutation long ago in Cambon when a small amount of chemical found in the cambon rocks entered the bloodstream of a young girl with blond hair and blue eyes, associating itself with the recessive genes. After countless generations and a millennium of evolution, the chemical inside the rocks faded and the genes died down. The reaction between the cambon rocks' unique magnetic field and the recessive gene mutation became less known and eventually formed into a legend.3

Less and less often would a child with the recessive genes come in contact with the cambon rocks, and with the exploration of the world and transportation made easy, when the occasional child was born, it was even rarer that they would know it and get to Cambon to unlock their powers.4

The mythical powers presented to the child who unlocked their abilities in Cambon varied much with a wide variety, including flight, absolute taste, sensitive hearing, strength, and genuine beauty. Much more powers were once discovered, but the knowledge of them has been lost throughout the path of time.5

So rare the gene has become that no one in four hundred years have unlocked their true potential, and the legend of such power has become so unreal with the growth of technology that no one, not even children, believed it had ever really existed. Somewhere, though scientists have disproved it and parents have dismissed the idea of it, still live a hidden civilization of the humans who have discovered more- the Gifted. Their gifts of immortality, age-changing, and everything you can think of still live hidden, forgotten throughout the ages.6

The last thing the New World, convinced that such power could never exist, needs would be another child to unlock their powers. To public knowledge, the race of the Gifted had either died out or never existed. Nothing would change that, except for the young girl who unlocks her powers and sets out to find the hidden Gifted civilization to discover the surprising extent of her powers- the power to lead the Gifted and change the future.

Author notes

This is actually part of a contest entry on Marapets, but I like posting it here for convenience. I'm not suppose to introduce any characters yet.

Does this have a strong plot? How should I change it?
