Chapter Seven (Let It Rain)

1

I had to get out of Akito’s room for a while. I sat on the porch outside his room, looking out into the dark horizon while it rained. I didn’t hear Akito come out over the pitter-patter of the rain. 2

“Neko,” he said. 3

I looked up. “Oh, hey, Akito,” I said. 4

“Are you alright?” 5

I shrugged. “Yeah, I guess I’m fine. Come sit.” I tapped the spot beside me. He sat down beside me quickly. “I’m getting a sense that I hurt you while…” he started, but I cut him off with a death glare, so he said, “we were doing…it.” 6

“Maybe a little. But only because the…” I pointed to my PJ top, which had a cherry on it, “popped, you know?”7

“So that was the blood.” 8

I nodded. “Apparently. Ow…” I groaned and clutched my stomach. 9

“Are you still hurting?” He grabbed my hand. 10

“Um, yeah, I am, actually.” 11

Akito was silent for a moment. Then he got up. “I’ll be right back. Mimi!” 12

Great, I thought. He’s going to get Mimi. 13

I kept on watching the rain. 14

“Neko!” Akito called. He was pacing inside the room. “Can you come here for a moment?” 15

I jumped up and walked quickly inside. “What’s wrong?” 16

“I just talked to Mimi and she said the child forms quickly.” 17

“Uh-huh. And?” 18

“It can fully form in two days.” 19

“Uh-huh.” I raised my eyebrows. 20

“Alright, I’m being serious now. I ejaculated while we were doing it, the child can form in two days, and you give birth on the fourth day and what does that mean?” 21

I shrugged. “I don’t know.” 22

Akito groaned. “It means…that…” He swallowed hard. “Neko, I—”23

“Okay, seriously, Akito, I’m getting tired of your stutter—” I said, but he cut me off. 24

Akito grabbed my shoulders and blurted, “Neko, you might be pregnant!” 25

“Uuuuuhhhhh?” I asked, and fainted from shock. 26

He touched my stomach. He felt a kick. “Damn!” he exclaimed. “I hate being God! Mimi!” 27

“Akito, what’s the matter?” Mimi asked. “Is Neko okay?” 28

“I don’t know; she fainted! Can you go out to get a pregnancy test or something? She might not believe me.” 29

“I’ll go to the twenty-four seven drug store, then.” Mimi grabbed her jacket and sighed. “What did you tell her?” 30

“I told her what you told me. The child forms fast within the next two days and on the fourth day, she gives birth. Then she fainted and I touched her and I felt a kick.” 31

“I’ll be back as soon as I can!” 32

Mimi ran out of the Main House to her car. Akito came back in and picked me up and lay me on the couch. 33

“Wake up, Neko,” he said, shaking me gently. 34

“Nnnnn…” I said. 35

“Neko, wake up!” 36

I sat straight up. “Ow! Four days I’m going to give birth?!” 37

“Yes.” 38

“But I’m not even big yet!” 39

“Trust me on this, you won’t. But also trust me on this, don’t freak, but it’s going to be three times worse than an ordinary birth.” 40

I nodded. “Okay, you’ve got three points out. Where’s Mimi?” 41

“She went to a store to get a pregnancy test to prove to you I am not lying about this.”42

He took my hand in his, put it on my stomach and I felt a nudge. I swallowed hard. 43

“Maybe the fish I ate still has a little swim in it?” I said. 44

Akito frowned. “Not hilarious, Neko!”45

I flinched. “I know, sorry, sorry. But it would have helped if you told me before we went and did it that it only took two days to fully grow and four days until delivery!” 46

“Neko, you’re the first girl I’ve kissed and gotten pregnant. Honestly, stop acting like a child.” 47

“Uh, Akito? I’m seventeen, not eighteen. I’m scared because I’m pregnant for the first time and you’re going to die very young and I’m going to give birth in four days for the first time too!” I was breathing hard. 48

“Alright, alright, calm down, Neko, just calm down.” He pulled me into a hug. Not tight as usual, but it was sort of tight. 49

Mimi knocked on the door. 50

“Come in,” Akito said, still holding me. 51

“Here. Read it carefully, too, Neko.” Mimi handed me three pregnancy tests. 52

“Three?” I asked. 53

“Just in case,” she said, opening the door back up. “Remember to read it carefully.” 54

I went into the bathroom and did my stuff. I came back out in ten minutes with all three of them. Akito and I sat on the couch when all three beeped at the same time. Akito got them before I did. He dropped them and hugged me. 55

I looked at them and then wrapped my arms around him. “Akito, I’m—I’m scared.”56

“It’s going to be alright, Neko,” he murmured in my ear. He ran his lips from my jaw to the bottom of my ear. “What are you going to say to Momo?” 57

“I’ll have to tell her the truth,” I said into his chest. I sighed. “I don’t believe it. Ow!” I clenched my stomach again quickly. “How much pain am I going to feel for the next few days, Akito?” 58

“A lot. But not as much pain when you give birth. It’s way more painful.” 59

I began crying hard. 60

“Neko! Neko, don’t cry. Don’t cry, I’m sorry, that didn’t help, did it?” he asked. 61

I shook my head. “No. I’m frightened.” 62

Akito stroked my hair. “I don’t like it when you cry,” he breathed. “Please, impede.” He held my chin with his thumb and index finger and gently and tenderly kissed my lips. I clutched onto his shirt as he lay me down on the couch. 63

“Neko,” he said, moving his hands down my body. “Neko, do I have to keep on telling you? You don’t have to be afraid when you’re around me. I will keep you safe.” 64

We fell asleep on the couch. Akito’s arms were wrapped around me securely. My cell phone woke us up. 65

I looked at the caller ID. It was Sondra. 66

“Hey, Sondra, what’s up?” I asked. Akito’s arms were still around me, even though we were sitting up. 67

“Hey, I heard about the news,” Sondra said, sounding disappointed. 68

“What—what news?” 69

“You’re pregnant. Don’t worry, I’m not going to tell Mama.” 70

“I’ll see you at home, okay?” 71

“Okay, bye.” 72

I sighed, closing the phone. Akito quickly kissed me. 73

“I’ve got to go, Akito,” I said. “I have to tell Mama. I’ll see you later.” 74

“All right,” Akito said. “Good luck with that.” 75

“Thanks. I’ll need it.” 76

I ran home quickly. I was hardly out of breath by the time I got back to my house. 77

“Mama!” I called when I walked in. “Mama, I’m home! I have something important to tell you!” 78

“What is it, hon?” Momo asked, taking my bag from me. 79

“I’m not sure how I can tell you this, but… Mama, I’m pregnant.”80

Momo looked fine at first and then she exploded. 81

“What?!” she screamed. 82

Time for the craziness, I thought. Let it rain...
83

84

I quickly imagined myself as a mom. 85
