This is love

I hold her in my arms, my hands supporting her tiny, fragile frame. Her blue eyes look up at me, rose red lips in a perfect "o". My heart swells and I press a kiss on the soft skin of her forehead. Heat radiates off of her and even though I was chilly before, I can't be cold with her in my arms. She is like a little furnace, keeping me warm. Her body pressed to mine, I can feel her heart beat in time with my own. My arms tire and shiver a little, but I refuse to lower them, refuse to stop supporting her. Her eyes, fixed on mine, watch my every move. I sink down onto the couch, still holding her. My back is sore from standing so rigid and I lean one arm on the arm rest of the couch. Slowly, her eyes start to close and her breathing deepens. I can tell she doesn't want to fall asleep; she doesn't want to miss a thing. She doesn't speak, but her eyes talk for her. Her eyes shut completely, then yank open again and I smile gently, soothing noises coming out of my mouth. Blue eyes flutter shut again and stay closed for longer this time. I hum quietly, not taking my eyes off her perfect body. So fragile and small but strong and resilient as well. Her hand reaches out and grabs onto mine, holding my finger. My stomach drops and my heart fills. Using my finger as her safety blanket, her eyes shut one last time. Her breathing falls into an even pattern and I can't help sighing with relief that she is finally asleep. 1

I lean my head back against the couch, body cramping in a hundred places, arms aching and legs falling asleep. Very uncomfortable, but she is sleeping peacefully. I wouldn't move for the world.

  • This was very cute, and well written. The last line is perfect, especially in the context of the story. Well done.

  • Thank you =)

There are different kinds of love. Most people focus on the romantic one (most of us are on a quest to find it, too ) and I am glad that this entry gave me the one I rarely read about I particularly am fond of mother-child stories... but I think even if I don't have a soft spot for that kind of relationship, this piece still warmed my heart.

Thank you so much for sharing this, and for entering it Tell me you love me I enjoyed reading! Good luck with the contest ^_^
