Wonderland ch.24/Nightmare ch.1

"Where are we?"1

I heard Jessy say from behind me.2

"Idiot"3

I heard someone mumble, probably Brenden.4

"Well I'm sorry that I don't know everything in the world Mr.superhero man."5

Jessy growled back6

"Oh I'm so offended."7

It was Brenden, of course. They went back and forth like that for quite a bit, while I had to navigate our group through a pitch black hallway.8

"Would you two shut up before I strangle you both!!"9

someone yelled. Probably Wilson it was his brother we were searching for after all.10

"Well someones a bit touchy today."11

"I'm sorry, but I would very much like to find my brother, instead of listening to you two bickering like an old married couple."12

"HEY!"
Jessy and Brenden screamed in unision.13

"I wouldn't marry him. He's obnoxious and thinks he's better then everyone else."14

"Oh and you're just a saint."15

I laughed a little then slapped myself mentally for laughing when Winslow was out there somewhere, possibly dying.
"Isabel."
I heard a small, girly voice whisper in my ear.
I turned and saw a little light float down a nearby hallway and I went after it. Everyone followed behind me. They didn't see the light though. I was the only one who could see it.
I followed it out of an open door and into the night. Then it vanished, before me was a street, just like any street. Each house was the same shape and size, but each one was painted a diffrent color. Almost like a rainbow. I walked slowly down the street and Miggy walked by my side. The blinds were closed in each house, but there a light in what I guessed would have been the attic. It made me think of the poem. I could here laughter from inside.
"I'm confused I thought Nightmare was a terrible place?"16

I asked Miggy and he nodded.17

"It is, Nightmare makes your worst nightmare come alive. This is mine."18

Miggy said. His voice was low and his eyes were downcast. I was about to ask what it was when a scream cut through the air and assulted my eardrums19


"MIGGY!!!"
A female voice screamed from inside the house at the end of the road. This house was diffrent, it seemed almost threatening. A small girl, covered in blood, came out the front door. I moved aside as she sprinted past us. Then a loud, animal-like roar came from inside the house and a large, black shape came flying out and after the girl. The girl turned and I finally saw her face. My jaw dropped when I realized that girl was a slightly younger version of me. I heard someone gasp behind me. I turned and Miggy was there. His eyes were filled with tears. I looked to Jessy but his face was blank. Everyone else was watching the scene unfolding before us. The monster was on top of the little me and lunged at her throat. He ripped off her head and blood spattered out of her headless neck. Jessy came and covered my eyes. I shoved him off and watched the monster swallow the little me whole. Then the monster stepped back and walked over to our group. He stopped in front of Miggy and smiled a dark, twisted smile.
"This is your future Miggy, your a monster just. Like. Me."
The last word was a whisper growl before the monster began to shimmer and turned into a mirror copy of Miggy. The second Miggy turned and lunged at me. I ducked out of the way, he hit the ground and shattered like glass. The pieces all began to fade away, except a small, black rock with golden veins running through it. I bent to pick it up, but Brenden stopped me.
"Never touch the soul of a nightmare."
He told me gravely. I shivered and pulled myself away from him.
"ISABEL!!!!"
I heard a voice scream. I looked up, the houses had turned into a forest that stretched forever and the road was dirt instead of concrete. There at the end of this path, was my long-dead mother. She stretched her arms towards me. Brenden tried to hold me back, but I managed to escape his hold. I ran into my mothers arms and hugged her.
"Welcome to Nightmare, princess."
The last word came out as a hiss, so I let go of her. I stared up at her face, then jumped back as it began to morph into a terrible image of a lizard. I opened my mouth to scream, but no sound came out. Then almost like it was in slowmotion she lept down at my throat. I was paralyzed with fear and I knew she was going to kill me. Then a flash of gold filled the sky and I fell backwords and struck my head against some unkown object. My hand fell against something hard that pulsed under my hand. The color drained away from the trees and I felt my mind go blank. The last thing I heard was Brenden say
"I told her never to touch the store of a nightmare."20
