Gambling

Love is the constant risk of rejection when we show another person all the affection, anxiety and lust that we keep hidden, and the resolve to do so in hopes of a happy ending.

Author notes

First love? Probably a good friend in high school, but not quite a happy ending lol. Long story short, he likes girls "only".

That first step is always a doozy, isn't it? I rarely took it, preferring to love in anonymous distance, rather than risk rejection. And now I regret that. All those times, those cute and handsome boys, and I never found out if they had any feelings in return. Sigh. I'm married and all now, but still...I'm stuck always wondering. And that sucks more than rejection, to me.

But then, I hate gambling. I'm a sure-thing sort of girl. And with love, there's very rarely a sure thing. My husband chased me and caught my attention, so that seemed like something I could rely on, though. It's working so far!

Honestly taking the first step is very rare for me, I'm usually a little more shy than that, I think that time was special though just because it wasn't just telling a friend how I felt about him, it was also admitting I even liked guys in general.. something I'll never forget lol.

I can somehow see where the AN and piece are linked. o__o And very true say, but only in romantic love. Familial love is mostly...eternal.

Hm, not necessarily.. For the most part things are less tense with friends, but there are still many times where we're scared to show someone all the things we really feel.

Oh wow...very well put. I am actually in awe as this does quite mirror the way that I have looked at love as well. I am quite sorry to hear about how your first love ended. As they say I have been there and done that myself.
