The Goodbye

She looked blankly at him.1

“What?” she asked “What do you mean? I don’t get it.”2

“I think it’ll be for the best.” He said looking at her in the eyes.3

She stared into his deep blue eyes.4

“What. After all we’ve been though, I mean I thought we were a team, friends. We don’t have to do this”5

“I know but...” he started6

He left it silent and the silence stayed.7

“We don’t have to.” She said while wiping a tear drop from under her eye. 8

“I’m sorry, oh I really am. If there was any other way.”9

“There is, you know there is. You don’t have to do it.” 10

“No. there is no other way. You know I have to do this. You knew from the beginning.”11

She put her face into her hands and started crying quietly while he put his hands on her shoulders. 12

“Look, I’ll find you ok. I promise.”13

She lifted her head and looked him into his eyes. She pulled him into an embrace and held him tight. She didn’t want him to leave, not when everything was happening. 14

“Here take this.” He said while reaching into his pockets. He pulled out a chain necklace with a cross on it.15

“No I can’t, it’s too precious.” She said16

“Not as much as you are to me.”17

He unclipped and put it round her neck.18

“As long as you have this, I’m with you.”19

He then pulled her into a hug while she cried into his chest.20

“Be careful ok.” She said21

“You too.” They stayed in the embrace.22

“It’s time.”23

She breathed in and out trying to steady herself.24

“Ok.”25

He took a step back as her body started to shine and become slightly transparent. She looked at him one last time and waved. 26

“Bye, I’ll miss you.” She said27

“Oh no it isn’t, not forever.” He said28

She smiled as her body started to dissolve into the blowing wind and was carried away.29
