Chapter 11

I can’t believe I am on this rickety contraption! How did I let Chris take me on here? I am seriously crazy. Does he have any idea how high this is?2

“Come on Kameel, it’s just the drop of fear. It’s not that big of a deal!” yelled Chris laughing.3

God what an inconsiderate dork! “Hey shut up! I hate heights and you know it. I don’t even know why I let you get me on this!” 4

Oh my goodness this is getting high. Oh crap I think I just about puked up my breakfast! AHHH stupid bell gets you off guard. “Wow that was fast!” It really was. I thought that would be way worse going down. Weird!5

“So? How bad was that honestly?” asked Chris still laughing. 6

I hate it when he laughs me! He thinks he can make fun of me and I won’t do anything about it. God it’s annoying. It’s like he doesn’t care how really scared I was. He’s getting really annoying.7

“It was okay.” I laughed. See how he takes that.8

“Sure, sure!” he replied. “You just keep telling yourself that babe!” 9

“Can you not call me babe?” Can’t he tell how much I hate that?10

When I pictured this day, I pictured something slightly more romantic, it being our ten month anniversary. But no! He gives me a hot, sweaty football jock joke fest! No flowers or anything.11

“Sorry babe. Oops I mean hunnie!” 12

Nice try! You think he could put a little more effort in!13

“Want to go get something to eat?” might as well do something slightly more normal. All those freaky rides are giving me an appetite. 14

“Food sounds like a good idea!” he replied. “so what you want babe?”15

UGH! “Hmmm I am going to get a sub. What about you?” I tried to sound nice.16

“Oh okay babe I’m going to get a hotdog. I’ll find us a table.” He answered walking towards the hotdog vender. 17

Amen! A few minutes alone!18

I am not supposed to feel this way. This is our ten month anniversary and I am miserable. I wonder what happened to all our old romance.19

You know it feels like forever since grade 9 grad. I mean what was the most amazing night of my life. 20

It all started with Chris’s buddy Aaron asked me to go to the dance with Chris. You know amazingly Chris was really shy back then; kind of funny to think about. But any ways the next day he came up to me in the hall and gave me a dozen roses. He said he would be honored to be going to grad with the prettiest girl in the whole school. I was completely embarrassed but felt happy and lucky. Everyone was talking about us as the cutest couple; we were even nominated for best couple. Yeah I know it’s corny but it was so cool at the time. 21

The night of grad came and Chris came to pick me up in his dad’s old clunker. It was so romantic. He was dressed in his pressed black dress shirt and black pants. He even polished his shoes and combed his hair. And for the final touch he sprayed himself with his awesome cologne. He had me going crazy.22

It had to be a while since I had gone out on a date so I thought I lost my touch when it came to getting dressed up. I was sure I was going to scare him. But all my friends gave me a lot of tips and encouragement. My friend spike came over and did my makeup. Then I slipped into my baby pink silk dress which I personally designed for this occasion. I even bought the cutest matching black slippers23

By the time we got there things had already started so I had to duck with Chris into the back of the auditorium. 24

But in spite of our lousy entrance, the dance was amazing and that’s when Chris popped the question and asked me to be his girlfriend. I was so overwhelmed and accepted immediately. 25

It was the start of what I thought to be the most beautiful relationship. How wrong I was! About two months into our relationship Chris just stopped all the romantic things. All the stay at home movie nights turned into hang at the guy’s houses watching football or wrestling! And it only got worse from there. 26

But for some reason no one else could tell anything had changed. All my friends were like he’ll come around or it’s okay you are probably just going through a rocky patch in your relationship. I was like yeah no! It was really frustrating! I don’t know why we are still going out! This has been the worst relationship I have ever been in!27

“Hey babe, are you almost ready? I got us a table.” Yelled Chris from a table near the hedge on the far east side of the food court. 28

“Yes! Just give me a second.” Gosh impatient. Oh well. This day could be worse! I guess. “I am just going to get lemonade okay?” I called back. That’s exactly what I need, a good glass of lemonade sounds good. 29

“One lemonade please” I asked the vendor and pulled out purse. Oh shoot I don’t know if I have enough! Darn it! Hey I’ll just ask this chick behind me, maybe she will let me borrow twenty-five cents. “Hey excuse me could I borrow….SPIKE?!!!”30

“Kameel?” yelled Spike dropping her bags on the ground and grabbing Kameel in a huge hug “Hey girl!” 31

This is so freaky. My best friend Spike is here. I didn’t know she was even in this state right now. You see she doesn’t live here in Lakeview, she lives in Canemore. This is about an hour south. I really didn’t expect her. This is so weird. “Oh my goodness what are you doing here?”32

“I am visiting Danny.” She replied laughing. “It’s been so long since I’ve seen you!”33

“Likewise…What you been up to?” This was so cool. I missed her so much. Spike and I have been best friends since like first grade. On the first day of preschool we just hit it off and never been apart since. Our parents used to say we were joined at the hips. But then Spikes mother and father got a divorce and she moved in with her dad in Canemore; leaving me all alone here in Lakeview. I sometimes hate her for that but I understand. I mean I wouldn’t want to live with her mom either. No offense to her. 34

“Well I came down for the weekend to see Danny and visit some old friends. I was actually just going to call you. I wanted to surprise you. I guess in some sense I did eh?” She replied. “And I came down to tell you guys that I am moving back here in  a week. My dad and I bought a house in Fair-weather meadow. We are so excited. I am so glad because it means I get to go back to Lakeview high with you and Danny and Teena and everyone else.”35

“Are you serious!?” she had to be kidding. When she left at the beginning of grade 9 we were all sure she wasn’t coming back. But I guess things change. I am so happy! “I am so happy!!!” 36

“I thought you would be. Hey are here with anyone today?” Spike inquired slapping some money on the lemonade stand and grabbing both hers and Kameel’s lemonades and pulling both of them out of the lineup so they could talk. 37

“Yeah as a matter of fact, I am! I am here with Chris. He’s over there sitting down.” I answered. “And I take it you are here with Danny?”38

“You’re absolutely correct. It’s our tenth month anniversary. Remember? We have it on the same day as you and Chris. Hey speaking of that. Is that why you two are here?” she inquired.39

“Correct.” Not that it was anything to really celebrate. But I would save that for another time. Right now I wanted to talk about good things. She wouldn’t be interested right now anyway.40

“Sweet!” she exclaimed41

“I know! So how are you and Danny doing? Was he happy when you told him about moving back?” 42

“He was so happy. He was overjoyed.” She laughed. “It’s been so hard for him, you know us being so far apart. We have only been able to see each other on weekends.”43

“Well it must be nice to now be able to see each other more I imagine?” I knew how hard it was for her and Danny. But they were a strong couple and I wasn’t the only one who knew it either! She and Danny were one of the best couples to come out of junior high and stay strong. They were inseparable. I was so happy to be seeing them be able to see more of each other. 44

“So you think we should go find the guys now?” I laughed. They were probably wondering what was taking us so long. Oh well. They would live. Come on this was like the best reunion on the planet. It was bound to take a little while. 45

“Yeah it would probably be a good idea.” She snickered. 46

Gosh this was nice. I love Spike. She is so awesome. She is like the sister I never had. I mean honestly. We are like the best friends ever. “Hey you want to go find Danny and I will get Chris and we can meet back here in two minutes?”47

“Sure” Spike replied running off towards Danny.48

I ran off in the other direction. I almost forgot where Chris was until I saw his green and blue football jersey. “Hey Chris, come with me, there is something I want to show you okay?” 49

“Okay, what is it?” He asked following.50

“I can’t tell you that would ruin the secret wouldn’t it now?” I loved doing that to him. It’s so fun to keep him guessing. He’s kind of cute when he’s confused. 51

“Hey Spike…I’m over OUCH!” What the? Oh shoot! 52

“Hey watch where you are going jerk!” yelled Devis looking at Kameel with disgust “Oh hi Kameel.” 53

“Devis” God this sucks! How could I have the unfortunate fate of running in to this one person? The one person I hated the most. EVER! The devil herself in living flesh and blood; my enemy! 54

“Why hello Chris.” she teased pushing Kameel aside and walking up to Chris. “You remember me don’t you?”55

“Hey…hey….hi Devis.” stuttered Chris swallowing loudly to clear his throat. 56

Oh crap. Not this routine again! This has always happened with Devis. We used to be friends, a long time ago. Then her dad struck it rich and she left all us regulars in the dust. She was popular and she didn’t need us anymore. Bull! But needless to say it’s her new mission in life to make our lives miserable! She mostly targeted our male friends. Sorry correction boyfriends. “Uh Devis you want to move it along?”57

“What’s the matter miss thing, you got a problem with me talking to Chris here? Because I don’t think he has a problem, do you Chris?” she replied in her devilish voice. 58

“Well I?” Chris struggled for words first looking at Devis and then to Kameel. “I mean, sorry Devis I have to go now. It was nice talking to you, will do again soon.”59

Smooth move buster! Don’t I feel great? He had to question whether to go with me or with Devis. I mean me, his faithful girlfriend of ten months or the school bunny? Great! Just great!60

“Kameel, what was that all about?” yelled Spike running over to Kameel with a worried look on her face. 61

Let’s see the school bunny just tried to steal my boyfriend right in front of me and my boyfriend bought on and was completely lost in her seduction. “Oh nothing, just Devis being the fake she is!” 62

She could tell I was pissed I could tell. 63

“She didn’t try and make a pass at Chris did she?” She asked.64

“Well let’s see, I don’t think make a pass at Chris is really the right way to put it. It’s more like she tried to steal him and seduce him right in front of me. And what’s always nice is he bought into it!” Oh I was mad now!65

“How could she?”66

“Oh it’s easy! She can and she does. It’s her mission in life, you know to destroy everything us little people have and hold dear. That’s how it works and every time she makes a pass at our boyfriends they all give up us and go for her without even a second glimpse.” Lovely….Simply lovely!67

“She’s so rude!”68

“I swear when school starts if she does anything like this again I don’t know what I will do. But she will be sorry. I am tired of watching while she ruins everything! It’s so darn stupid!”69

It’s really stupid how good looking she is; and how rich she is. You know that’s all it really comes down to! It’s all because she wears the bare minimum of clothes and wears about six tons of makeup. And can buy everything she wants. They all drool all over her.70

Well this year everything is going to change!71
